“Hideous company”

written by LeylaSandoval150 on 05/12/2019

If you like your holiday cancelled a few days before going with an underfunded refund arriving too late to book another holiday, and then when you complain the director, actually hangs up on you please book with them. Truly hideous company with hideous staff. Also note Go singles is the same company.

Save yourself a lot of stress and try another company. I had my holiday cancelled and no matter what I do they have not yet paid me my refund of £1300 and it’s now 3 weeks later. They ignore emails and you can’t get through on the phone. This is totally unacceptable . I will be taking legal action. I suggest anyone else in the same situation to do the same.

Hi there. I had exactly the same experience. Did you pay on a card? Mine was a debit card so I was advised to contact the bank & request a debit dispute which I did online. They contacted Solitair for me & the bank (Halifax) told me they had to give them 32 days to reply on day 32 the full amount (nearly £1100) was credited to my bank account the debit card was drawn from. Result!! I hope this helps others who have been unfortunate enough to book with this company, who seem to me to be nothing but charlatans. Also they are now trading under other company names too, so be very careful out there when booking solo holidays. Good luck!

“Another cancelled trip!!!”

Received email today 11/09/19 to be advised due to not enough people the Gulet and hotel trip 23/09/19 I had. Booked earlier this year 01/03/19 has been cancelled... No alternatives offered as was advised everything else is fully booked until the end of October .. Person I spoke to said things are going to get better for the company as there is a legal case ongoing regarding a previous director...I have been advised they will be refunding full amount I paid in March. .. Clearly not including interest they accrued...and the Turkish visa I have just purchased....Am waiting fingers crossed for refund so I can book an alternative trip ... Last minute ...shame on you Solitaire I gave you the Benfit of doubt to deliver what I had paid for and ignored the bad reviews ..leopard doesn't change spots springs to mind .. Buyer beware

There finances have been frozen as someone at the company committed a crime. They cancelled my holiday and said I could not have my money back for a while as the bank accounts had been frozen. I had to claim my money back thru my credit card. By the time I got my money back I could not book my cruise directly as it was fully booked. Would not use this company again.

“I am still fighting to get a refund”

★☆☆☆☆

written by irCompton1945 on 28/08/2019

I am still fighting to get a refund, despite them cancelling my holiday in May, 3 days before I was due to fly out. Has anyone had any luck reporting them? This is clearly something to get footfall for your interests in Turkey (by taking clients money, mislead clients about the amount of people going, then cancelling at the last minute and offering Turkey as cancellation). They don't even pay for the hotels or flights, despite taking your money months in advance. Surely there are enough clients who have been treated this way by this company to warrant some form of investigation?

“Please, for the sake of your Bank Account and your...”

Please, for the sake of your Bank Account and your Sanity, never ever book a holiday with Solitair Holidays. Do NOT give them any money. Hopefully this Soliair Holiday Review of their conduct will stop others being robbed. Solitair Holidays advertise group holidays to popular locations for those travelling alone who would like to be part of group for excursions, day trips, dinners etc. We may be recently divorced or recently bereaved but find ourselves making holiday plans alone for many reasons. Solitair Holidays exploit this market. The number of people displayed as having booked on a holiday you are browsing is not true. If you phone the office to enquire about numbers booked there will NOT be a mix of 8 men and 7 women travelling. It will probably be only you. And maybe one other….. They will then probably cancel your holiday a few days before you are due to travel - and they may or may not tell you!! And guess what! They never did book those flights and they never did allocate you a room at that hotel. That’s why you could never get an itinerary or any details out of them. And when they cancel on you, they won’t care about your pre-booked Airport parking costs, your Kennel costs or the 2 weeks annual leave you booked several months ago. And then, naturally, you will want your money back since Solitair Holidays cancelled the holiday – not you. That’s when the fun starts. Endlessly emailing. Endlessly calling 0161 839 6697. Endlessly being fobbed off and ignored….. Note, GoSinglesis another of their websites – spot the similarities! Please Please Please do NOT hand any money over to Solitair Holidays or Go Singles. They really do not care about you. They just want your hard earned cash in their pockets!

I am amazed they are still trading as I have had the same experience and reported them to ATOL and Trading Standards. If everyone does the same, maybe they will be shut down. If anyone has lost money with them, please report them to Action Fraud as they are deliberately tricking you.

I booked a holiday to Greece due in 12 days time. despite numerous phone calls, I could not get anyone to talk to me and I was unable to get any information about my trip, flight times, tickets etc.It appears to have been cancelled but I have had no notification. I have notified ATOL and am contacting Consumer Direct. This company cannot be relied upon.

I am finding the same problem, I have paid a deposit a few months ago the balance being due last week on 1st July - I have sent them 2 emails which they have not acknowledged, phoned with no response as I have heard rumours from a friend who went on the same Turkish Gulet holiday a couple of weeks ago that the local people are not being paid and are threatening to withdraw their services! They are not even chasing me up for my balance? Very odd? Are they going out of business?

If you paid by credit card I would phone them and get them to get your money back now. when i did get through to someone ( at a weekend) she said they had problems with their phones, they were in the process of moving offices and she thought their computers had been hacked!! sounds like a lot of lies to me. Send an e mail to ATOL and contact Consumer Direct through Citizens Advice. This company needs to be shut down and investigated.

I booked and paid in full on 3rd January 2019 for a cruise in Croatia on 8th June 2019.10 days before I was due to travel, they cancelled by email. Since then they have continually left their answerphone on and have failed to return messages or answer emails, so I am unable to get a refund so I can try and rebook something else. I called them just 2 weeks ago to chase my flight tickets and they must have known at that time they did not have enough people for the trip, but did not tell me, so I paid for a non refundable hotel at Gatwick because they said my tickets would be with me this week.I have now lost that money too. This company have been incompetent and unprofessional. Do not book with them

“Xmas new year cruise”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/02/2019

I booked this cruise through Solitaire as I wanted a group holiday. I did not meet anyone else who had booked with Solitaire for days as nobody on my dinner table had booked with them. I eventually met only 2 other people who had booked with them and they were as dissatisfied as myself, we said we would never book with them again, we might just as well have booked direct with the shipping company and saved ourselves some money. Solitaire is a complete rip off company, I don't know how it is still in business as there does not seem to be a single good review of them on this site. I have booked with other singles companies who have their own rep accompanying them on holiday and you are looked after properly after all that is what you pay extra for. How can this company Solitaire Holidays be able to advertise this as a group holiday? It is anything but and should be prosecuted under the trade descriptions act!

“Dont book with Solitair”

written by ukGreenwood1 on 18/11/2018

I went on the 11 day Cuban holiday 2018. The accommodation is basic at best, the hotel, in Varadero was the worst I have ever stayed in, dirty, tired, lack of towels, terrible food. I can best describe it as the type for stag and hen party's, cheap and nasty. Such a shame as there are lots of nice hotels nearby. Also the cost was very high and i've discovered I paid twice as much as those who booked the same package through virgin holidays. Although I emailed Solitair during my stay they never responded to me, leaving the on site rep to take the flack.

“Corfu July 2018”

★★☆☆☆

written by JeanBalloch on 15/07/2018

Booked holiday online and found it difficult to speak to anyone about my queries. The website was inaccurate about numbers and did not change after I had completed booking. I thought that the holiday was for a group of 12 but there were only 6 and another man having a second week. In fact, he told us that on the previous week there had only been three participants and one of them left early. When I arrived at Edinburgh airport, the check-in was problematic because my middle name and surname had been joined together. On arrival in Corfu, I was handed the welcome pack which included several errors with my name. Despite being a lady, I was titled MR and although my first name was correct, my second name was male. Fortunately I travelled with another lady to the resort but the rep did not greet us until the next day. This meant it was difficult to identify who was actually in the group. Having enjoyed a lively and well supported holiday the previous year with Friendship Travel, I was very disappointed in the lack of arrangements. The hotel was clean and staff pleasant. The entertainment could have been improved with more disco music. The meals were average and lacked fish options.Having said that, the other participants were good fun and a nice bunch of people. I will not use the company again.

“Terribly organised with almost non existent rep”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nikproffitt on 21/09/2017

A group of four people arrived at our hotel in Northern Cyprus at about 11.30 at night, no sign of the rep and not even any food set on for the weary travelers (something that is usually done with other companies in the same sector). We were told our rep would be at the hotel 12 the next day. 12 came and went, and we asked the very helpful receptionists at the hotel to chase him up, we were told there was a slight issue at another hotel and that he would be a couple of hours at most. We did not hear from him again that day, and we could not get through on his phone! Again thanks to the hotel staff the group arranged a trip the next morning (Friday), which is of course when the rep appeared (unannounced!) saying that he would try again on Monday! After several e-mails to solitair he apparently turned up in reception next day, however half of the group were in the hotel at that time but he made very little effort to find them and left again. We finally met him on Sunday evening (we arrived late Wednesday!) only to be told he didn't actually work for solitair but was a third party rep, however because it was out of season there were not trips available! This seemed a little strange as other groups were in the hotel, with boards advertising the trips that were offered. He did arrange one boat tour (which was run by people he knew!) and told us how to make our own way around. We were leaving on Wednesday so didn't have much choice anyway!. He arrived again on Tuesday to discuss getting to the airport the next day. Check in for two of the group was at 7.40 p.m. and he said that it would be fine for us to be picked up at 6.30 p.m. Luckily we remembered that the trip from airport to hotel had taken nearly an hour and a half, and that was late at night. After telling him this he agreed a 6 p.m. pick up. Luckily the driver turned up 10 minutes early (we were ready just in case). It appears we hit rush hour and it took nearly 2 hours to get there, if it had been the original pick up time it is possible some people would have missed their flight!. Absolutely terrible company and will never use them again.

“Shocking/Rude customer service ”

written by Amayaj173 on 17/08/2017

Book an overpriced holiday to got with as stated 12 others, Website always showed 3 males 3 females going on the holiday. Telephone call received 6 days before departure to say only 2 other people were booked on the trip - was given then opportunity to cancel. Called back 30 minutes later to a barrage of abuse from the rude lady in the office. No calls returned as promised just another barrage of abuse when I called to speak to the manager. Never got to speak to the manager and only got a refund due to sending an email to the directors. Terrible, unprofessional, rude treatment from this company, which I feel is just one rude girl in the office who doesn't care or has any idea of what a single traveller wants or needs. Sticking to FRIENDSHIP Travel, they are a fantastic travel company and know exactly how to treat the single traveller.

“Avoid unless want to holiday alone or in a small group”

written by torchwood1234 on 24/06/2017

I booked a holiday with this company in January , 10 days before I was due to go it was cancelled , I was offered two alternatives I asked how many were booked on the cheaper one, I was told 8 women and 2 guys , on arrival just 8 guys including me, so a stag week, if I had known would have got a refund . We met up with a woman who was booked on another solitaire holiday, different hotel she found herself alone at her hotel, hardly a group holiday. Our rep even told us she was getting fed up of apologising for the company being economical with the truth re numbers, the following week there were only 3 solitaire travellers in a 26 room hotel

The hotel is exclusive to solitaire so if only you will have the whole place to yourself, good luck, I suggest you get the numbers in writing, Irecorded a call in case on my own so could prove what I was told

“Awful company not to be trusted”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/06/2017

I booked a holiday in 2016 for May 2017 with Solitaire Holidays at The Bronze Hotel at Olu Deniz in Turkey. The booking was for a holiday with other single travellers, in the event there was only 1 other person for a few days from Solitaire and the remainder of the time I was on my own. I was not informed prior to the holiday that this would be the case. Shortly after booking my holiday last year I noticed my weeks had been removed from your site, I called queried why, was assured that all was ok. Before my holiday I called Solitaire again and spoke to the same lady and asked if there were others booked at same time as me and was informed there was a mix of people approx 7-8 this reassured me so I felt confident that all was ok.(as a older lady travelling to Turkey on my own it was vitally important me that there would be other people in the group that I could socialise with. As soon as I arrived at the resort and found out the situation, I made a complaint to the Solitaire Rep, she advised me she would pass on my complaint to Solitaire, which she did. My issues with Solitaire are: -I was misled regarding the numbers on the holiday -I was not informed of the situation prior to the holiday nor was I not offered any cancellation option or alternative. Following my complaint to the Rep at the Hotel, she passed a message back to me that she had been informed by Solitaire that prior to the holiday I had been told about the situation and that I had declined an offer to change the holiday – This was untrue. Following discussions I was told that because I would be eating alone at the hotel, Solitaire would make a payment toward the cost of me taking meals outside of it, on the strength of this, I did eat out, and incurred costs. I chased the rep throughout my holiday to be advised of the amount I would be offered, but I was not advised until a few days before my departure, and the sum offered was derisory and I rejected it. I do not recommend anyone spending their hard earned cash with Solitaire Holidays just to have their precious holiday ruined!

I was due to go on my first ever since traveller holiday. This is a big move for me. I booked a holiday to Tenerife for the first week in june 2017. Today I was told there are not enough people going (12) so the holiday is cancelled just like that.i've booked time off work, booked holiday parking and insurance.please don't use this company they are unprofessional and will let you down. If you are going on holiday on your own you need to know you can rely on the company you are going with Solitaire are not a company you can rely on. Don't book with them.

I have had 2 holidays cancelled with Solitair, they first time they wanted to give me a credit note. The most recent one they cancelled on May 3rd, when I was due to travel on May 16th. They sent me a statement of the money they were refunding me and had deducted £13 cancellation fee. I was livid as I did not expect to be charged for them cancelling my holiday and told them so. They then sent me a revised statement with the correct amount, but no apology. I managed to book a holiday with another company (Solos) for the same dates and there was another traveller who had also had two holidays cancelled by Solitair.

Hello Jaquelineh239,

I was looking for a holiday to Spain for people travelling on their own around my age group - I am 44 years (and female). The Solitaire Holidays for over 40s to Canary Islands, in Tenerife, staying at the Diver Hotel seemed ideal. They claim it is a 4 star hotel, there are already 5 ladies and 3 men booked on it and there websites mentions many nice excursions. Is this the hotel you were booked on?
I want to go this month (August 2017). Are you recommending I do not book this?

Has anyone had any positive experiences with Solitaire holidays in 2017? Otherwise, which single companies would you recommend, please?

Yaso.

“AVOID AVOID AVOID”

written by on 18/03/2017

I am only recently single and using Solitair Holidays was my first toe in the water for single holidays. I chose a short break over the Christmas period. I would never, ever recommend them. It was like a meat market with men there that go for one reason only. There were women there that make it easy for them. As soon as they had paired up for a short fling, the other people were ignored. One woman was in tears because she felt so lonely and ignored. The rep was a waste of space and treated the 3 days as her own Christmas break rather than working to make sure everyone felt comfortable and included. The icing on the cake was that the hotel in question Kettering Park Hotel & Spa was taken over by travellers. I changed rooms 3 times in 3 days to try and get away from them. Unbelievably, after moving me, the hotel then moved the travellers so again they were next door. The men were drunk, the women walked around in pj's and the children blocked the lift, swore at everyone and stayed up ALL NIGHT in the hallways. I left one day early, complained to Solitair and they basically said "tough". I considered going to small claims but to be honest, I just want to wipe the whole sorry experience out of my mind. If you are looking for a good positive experience do not entertain the thought of Solitair. You will not receive good customer service and you could end up out of pocket and depressed as well !

Take the Plunge and travel alone.I was like you and in your position around 7 years ago.Too nervous to travel alone, did not know what to expect. My first holiday travelling alone was to Gambia.I loved it.Locals were friendly.I stayed in a boutique Hotel.I signed up for the excursions and had many conversations with other people on holiday. I have been to Cyprus,Turkey,Malta,Spain,Gran Caneria,Futuventura on my own and I loved each and every one of those holidays.Trust me you will be fine travelling on your own.I find with these single holiday companies the prices are extortionate and cost far too much compared to what you would pay if you were to go it alone yourself.I am a 45 year old woman and I am already planning my next holiday.Go on take the plunge and do it.Once you do it the first time you will wonder what all the worry was about in the first place.Good luck with your future holiday.

I went to Cuba last year with Solitair and will never use them again. Unfortunately I didn't do any reach into the company as it was the first time I had used a singles company. I never thought that a travel agent would take my money and then just dump me without any support or help from Solitair when I landed at Havana airport. I also met 3 other women on the same holiday that had booked through Solitiar. They also had a bad experience with the company. Whatever you do do not hand money over as you will never see it again and don't be taken in by their marketing ploys. I have heard Just You and Solo are very good. Please do your homework when booking with any travel agent or singles company. Enjoy your holiday
