“The 'Part Time' Pub”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 373Gomez on 14/08/2014

Monday-SHUT, Tuesday-SHUT, Wednesday-SHUT, Thursday-SHUT, Friday-WHEN HE FEELS LIKE IT, Saturday-DEPENDS WHAT FRIDAY WAS LIKE, Sunday-MICROWAVE LUNCH. Yeh!!! Then has the cheek to say he cannot rely on local trade?, well try being open then!! By the time you get there and order a drink he will be calling 'TIME' with the lack of hours he does. I reckon he must be on a 'ZERO' hours contract, ZERO PERSONALITY and ZERO OPENNING TIMES!!

“Excellent real country pub”

★★★★★

written by Griffith1957 on 02/08/2014

My partner and I had a meal here a couple of weeks back and only just got round to writing a review. My partner is from London and was amazed at the location and setting , she was then even more amazed when the landlord I think said he would call the ducks up for a feed. Even the tiny ducklings made an appearence. The atmosphere and service is very good and the only criticism I have is the size of the portions , and its not that they are too small but they are absolutely huge.

Excellent food, good selection of beer and ciders. Always a warm welcome from them. And the surroundings by the river on a warm summers night take some beating. What more can I say except try it for yourselves, you will not be disappointed !!!!.

“chicken poo and wanna be landlord with your baguette”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Frazier249 on 30/05/2014

sat outside recently with a friend, lovely warm evening, and had the delighful stench of chicken and duck faeces to add to our meal. the whole grounds outside looks like a gypsy site. and as for the motor mouth behind the bar, not everyone wants to listen to your annoying voice. overpriced menu for microwaved meals also. wont be returning and suggest that for your poor ears you dont, so you havent got to listen to the fake know it all, rude barman.

We have been dining at the Coal house for many years, i must say i have not had one bad meal, i have always recommended my friends and family, i am very shocked to read such garbage, the land lord and staff makes you feel very welcome, it is nice to see a land lord to go out his way and talk to you. as for the microwave meals what a load of rubbish. When reading this review it do come accross a very bitter jealous person writing this. You only have to turn up on a friday / weekend to see how busy it is.Oh well i suppose you cannot please every one. Keep doing what you are doing as, as we certainaly will carry on popping over to see you

“excellent”

★★★★★

written by ALANboat on 05/01/2014

My wife and i have eaten at the Coal house several times , each time the food has been EXCELLENT ,A1 and lots of it, i really can not fault the place its set on the banks of the River Severn the hosts have made the place really lovely especially in summer when you can sit in the garden which is decorated with hanging baskets and potted flowers , a real beautiful place thats been given a lot of time and pride to make it such, The landlord is a lovely friendly guy who will no matter how busy he is stop for a chat if you wish and tell you about the place and its history , the hosts also have several ducks and chickens in runs for the children to see and if your lucky you may get to seethe landlord stand at the front of the pub and call ( his babies )has he likes to call them ( wild ducks etc ) with a call from him they all march single file one by one from the river bank right up to the pub garden there can be as many as 50 at one time (due to him feeding them at regular times in the day theyve got to know when grubs up ) , basically a delight of a pub with a great landlord , great beer , fantastic food, and a beautiful garden, The pub unfortunatly got hit bad in the floods of Jan 2013 so it had to close, which cost the hosts dearly as they had to have a major refit, 6 months later in June on 2013 they reopened , now being Jan 2014 theyve flooded AGAIN only after 6 months of being reopen, my heart goes out to them so if your reading this and wonder if you should try it DO SO please, its a great pub all round and theyve had a lot of bad luck i promise you if you go , you WILL return , this is a real review by a real person whois been and will continue to go to this great pub , ALAN

“Very Friendly, Lovely Food”

written by SGreen4 on 10/10/2013

Nice position by the River Severn, landlord was very friendly. My husband had steak on a stone and I had braised steak in whisky and peppercorn sauce. Both meals were superb and the service was very good. We were on holiday, but if I am in the area again I will go back there.

“Hidden Gem!”

★★★★★

written by Miskins on 05/09/2013

The Coalhouse Inn was recommended to us by a friend and what a recommendation it was! Perfectly set by the banks of the River Severn with views over the Malvern Hills - we enjoyed local cider and very generous portions of lovely pub grub! The landlord was friendly and welcoming and his managery of birds (both wild and pets) were an added delight! We will definately be back!

“Location food staff fantastic”

★★★★★

written by tonyeast88 on 31/08/2013

Steak on the stone with Herbie potatoes a must. The landlord is a character who has a kind heart and always up for a laugh. The setting is fantastic and friends drive up from Bristol as it is also their favorite inn. I have always had a good meal and try to go twice a month or more if possible. Thanks and in the words of Arnie " I'll be back".

“Friendly pub, good food”

★★★★★

written by on 31/08/2013

A lovely riverside location, excellent choice of food hard to choose what to have, lovely big portions cooked to a turn. We did not have the steak on the stone but the smell was fantastic. We went for the ham egg and chips... yummy Staff were friendly and service was quick despite it being busy. Watching the sun go down over the Malvern Hills... blissful way to finish the day. Thank you and we will be back again soon

“Basil Fawlty Exists”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 26/08/2013

An amazing experience in customer relations by the landlord. The two Aberdeen Angus Burgers were hard and difficult to cut and trying to chew them was like the jerky in Paraguay. When brought to the attention of the landlord he went mental telling us we did not know what we were talking about and that the burgers were perfect, that was quite possible if they were made from the hide of the cow. The landlord instructed that we never return, I do not think there is any chance of that, but if anyone is up for a good laugh just go and complain about the food. Come back Basil all is forgiven

“BEST PUB FOOD I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED”

★★★★★

written by theashcastle on 10/08/2013

I visited this little gem today with my girlfriend we were looking for a spot by the river to have a nice pub lunch, i came across the coal House on google and decided to give it a go rang first and booked with a nice well mannered girl, got there was greeted by the landlord who was very friendly and continued to explain all the ciders as i was interested in them (GL is the best in my opinion) and also let me try them before deciding he was extremely friendly and welcoming. We sat outside right on the river lovely surrounding's the food was quick i had the beer battered cod and the girly had pasta, now this is no exaggeration but the cod blew me away,, it is the best cod ive had EVER! i like cod and have had it from hundreds of establishments but this was fresher and nicer in flavour then any cod ive ever had before, upon going to compliment it (another round) , he told me it is all caught and cooked from fresh and the batter and everything else is made onsite, as he is a butcher by trade. honestly i cant recommend it enough for anyone who is keen on good pub grub in a great location check it out for yourself im sure you will come to the same conclusion. another reason for writing this review is the fact that i am flabbergasted by the poor comments a couple of people have wrote about the place and after visiting the pub myself today i wonder what planet they are really from? Best Regards Ryan (and Amy) Cheltenham.
