“Death trap car salesman!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kirsty1985 on 30/11/2012

Sadly, I did not see these reviews when I bought a Peugeot 206 cc from him less than a week ago!!! When viewing the car, it looked like a nice bargain car for its age and mileage - how wrong could I be!!! Eventually, we purchased the car after he turned up to greet us without the keys??? When I got home with the car, I knew something wasn't quite right??? Maybe it was the clicking noise that developed around the steering wheel or the multiple lights that appeared on the dash board?? The next day was even better, the indicators or wipers did not switch off; infact when the wipers did eventually stop they stopped right in the middle of the window screen! My partner rang the strange, odd man who sold me the vehicle to say its not right and we were taking it to a garage to get it looked at, he said fine and we agreed we would be in touch. My local garage didn't need long to look at the car before he said, when did you buy the car, I said 3 days ago and he said take it back and get your money back - I wouldn't put my worse enemy in it!! Now I'm not very technical but there was a fault with the clutch, the wiring behind the steering wheel had been tampered with; which was causing the clicking noise. This had then caused the airbag light to come on as well as multiple other lights. Apparently the wiring was in such bad condition that if I had a crash along with the seat belt faults the airbag would not inflate and as I travel a 60 mile round trip to work via the motorways this didn't fill me with joy of the safety of the car. The horn had been moved to below the steering wheel, the engine brackets were moving too much and the suspension had too much play. Now I am not stupid, and I understand that older cars have faults but this car needed scrapping not selling on. I was advised I would be throwing dead money after dead money if I tried to sort this car out. We then took the car back to Lymm cars and he was there cleaning another death trap with who I presume was his wife. My partner explained the problems with the car and that as we had only had the car for 4 days we wished to reject the car under the sales if goods act 1979 and we wanted a refund. He tried to tell us there was nothing wrong with the car and that the faults were just the opinion of our mechanic!! I even rang my mechanic and Mr Reed who sold us the car spoke to him, even after he divulged he knew nothing about cars he then told my mechanic he did not know what he was talking about! He would not give me a refund and wanted to keep the car to get his mechanic to look at the car. I explained I could not do that as we were not local to him and I needed my car for work. His response was well that's not my fault and you are boring me now!! Such great customer service skills!!! He then said we couldn't have a refund as he had already spent the money - surely my response should have matched his '' that's not my problem! '' Eventually my partner lost his temper and uproar happened his wife - gob on legs came in and soon the Police came. The Police were great and agreed with me that they would demand a refund too but sadly as its a civil matter they could not force him to issue us with a refund. I then rang Citizens Advise whilst there and they confirmed that I am entitled to a refund but if he was not willing to offer one then, I have to write a letter with a written report from my mechanic stating the faults and that I wish for a refund within the next 7 to 10 days. As we weren't getting anywhere and my partner was getting more and more angry I decided to leave the car there for him to look at, or should I say cover up the faults!! I have now written my letter and I will be sending it to him, but such a nightmare just to get my money back!! I suppose I best get walking now so I can make it to work on time now I don't have a car!!! Words of advise - STAY AWAY FROM THIS TERRIBLE CAR SALESMAN!! PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS I DID. I WILL BE TAKJNG THIS FURTHER, MY GOAL WOULD BE TO GET HIM ON THAT DIDGY WALL OF FAME ON WATCHDOG!!! Sadly I had to rate him 1 star too, but I would rate this trader as - 10 stars if I could.

“Total cowboy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kwardle on 07/11/2012

They are very clever at hiding faults!! Dash lights were on after I had purchased, overheating and noisy brakes, they did nothing about it all, even though I'd only bought a week ago! Since then I've spent a fortune getting things fixed and another local garage explained the mgt. switch has been disconnect by someone who knows what they're doing! I am now wanting to sell my Audi TT but need to get work done first on it as I am honest!!! Stay Away from them if u don't want tone ripped off

“I have to fully agree with the abbove review and can't...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/11/2010

I have to fully agree with the abbove review and can't strees to you how much you need to stay away from this dealer. Like an idiot I read the above review after seeing a car advertised by him and thought oh well one bad experience maybe this car is going to be as good as advertised.

The ad read Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagon 1.8, in FAULTLESS Silver paintwork. it went onto state how it was surely the best example around. On driving the 60 miles to his plot on a farm is greeted by a man I can only describe as having the worst people skills I have ever encountered, (And I'm a Police Officer so work that out !!!!) He was that bad he genuinely made my wife feel very uncomfortable with the way he glared at us.

I could go on but lets get to the car. The faultless Silver paintwork revealed a passenger side that looked like it had been involved in a spot of banger racing with the remnants of somebodys Green paintwork still to be seen. So that was 2 panels needing to visit a body shop straight away. This was to be the least of the cars problems however. So I will list them to make it easier.

1. Rear windows not working
2. Heater only working on 3&4 (A common Alfa fault)
3. Alternator squeaking
4. Aircon not working
5. After being told by email the cam belt had been done the story on the day was don't know and wouldn't guarantee it.

At this point I made a rough estimation that to put everything right we were now talking over 1k. I didn't bother asking for a test drive I had given up the will to live by now and was starting to feel uncomfortable myself so we got in our car and left.

This man is rude and believe you and me not someone to hand your hard earned cash over to.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WONDERING AND GIVING THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT LIKE I DID AND THE PERSON BEFORE ME !!!!!

“I only gave this cowboy 1 star because I couldn't give...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sinikil on 14/04/2010

I only gave this cowboy 1 star because I couldn't give him NONE. After buying a V reg Vauxhall Zafira off him yesterday, I've already been hit with problems. I drove over 130 miles to see this 'Excellent' car, which 'excellent' interior and 'fantastic' body work. There was a 6 inch scratch down the back left side which wasn't mentioned in the advert. Nor was the grubby interior, broken (back left hand side) passenger lock, lack of boot cover (which cost a lot to buy from Vauxhall and should be supplied with ALL Zafira's - unless OTHERWISE stated of course) and faulty seatbelt light on the dash. The car was also advertised at having done 73,000 miles - a massive reason why I travelled so far for this car. When I got there the insincere little motor dealer informed me it had infact done, a few more miles than that. 7,100 miles more to be exact. But of course, that was only a few, it wasn't a big deal. To him. May I please add at this point that when I looked at the car it was in a false dim light inside his dark garage. So I only learnt the true extent of the body's damage after I had drove away in daylight.

God knows why I bought it, but I did, if not partially because I'd made my friend drive so far to get this car that I felt I owed it to her to have made the journey 'worth while'. After driving back 40 miles I felt I needed a coffee and stopped at some services. I had a closer inspection of the car and noticed what I first thought was bird much on the windscreen, but infact was 1 of 2 worsening chips. The garage by this time was closed, so doing a U-turn would have been pointless. I decided to ring him the following morning.

I firstly rang a few companies about the chip(s) and was told one of them was infact too large to repair, meaning I needed a full windscreen replacement. After explaining my FURTHER findings to him, the rude man tried to make out it must have happened when I had drove back. I argued I would have heard it if a stone had hit the windscreen, as travelling at speeds of 70mph would have made sure I'd have heard it and noticed the chip immediately. This was not the case. I was not the liar. It's obvious this false little man is. After much deliberation and me having to get very heated with him, I still am no closer to getting either A) some money refunded to pay for the windscreen replacement or B) him to pay for the replacement.

I am so sick of con men like this, please do NOT even THINK about approaching this man to buy a car, unless you like getting ripped off and NO after sales ervice. Even though you supposedly get 1 months warranty on all the vehicles. Pah! I've not even had 24 hours warranty so don't gamble with your money... GO TO A PROPER GARAGE NOT A LYING BACK STREET 'TRADER' like 'Lymm Trade Sale'. Terrible all the way around.
