“People always say 'you get what you pay for' and this...”

People always say 'you get what you pay for' and this is the truest case. If there is one thing I know about cars, it is ride quality. Since toying with cars for 13 years, every car I have had the benifit of uprated suspension for one reason or another. My first golf got Spax springs to increase handling ability... these were fine for a 17 year old who wasn't to fussed about bumps and bounce. My 1989 Golf GTI 16v has FK High-sport coil-overs and 17" wheels, this was a very rarely driven car that was for fun, so going round corners and hard braking never results in scrubbing or dipping, but it was a VERY bumpy ride... great for the track but forget it as a daily driver.

The Eibach springs here were fitted to a 2001 Golf GTI 20v turbo, a car that got a lot of bad press, but is in fact a superb car. I do agree however that the suspension was far too soft for a GTI, very comfy, but floaty and wallows round corners... always felt like it was slightly behind the steering wheel. I chose these springs as they offer a small ride height drop, -35mm, just enough to make it look that much more like the superb anniversary edition. They are also designed to work in-line with the standard shockers, so I didn't need to replace these at the same time. I had new shocks fitted when I purchased the car, so wasn't keen on spending more on new ones just yet, and although the new springs will probably wear the shocks out faster, it spreads the cost of upgrading. Since fitting them, I have been a very happy driver... they are excellent round corners, the body roll has reduced massively, without impairing the ride quality. You can drive in a relaxed manner and you would not know that after market springs were fitted. They have reduced lift and dip on acceleration and braking, and the feel I got from my first mk2 GTI has been restored in my mk4. When looking for springs for this car, I spoke to various people about the options, and so many people recommended these, and they were so right. even the shop I bought them from had some other more pricey kits that they steered me away from. there were obviously cheaper springs to, but the reports from these were just awful... bumpy harsh ride, shocks going bad after a month, springs sagging and settling unevenly... it is just not worth buying cheap. I cannot recommend these enough, and if you are on a budget and cannot afford shocks as well, these will get you started nicely.
