“Fantastic fire when it worked”

★★★☆☆

written by ReviewByPete on 01/11/2022

Had the fire 10 years now. Puts out lots of heat, never needed it on full power for long. Very stylish. Issues. Changing the batteries is a real pain. Need to remove front of fire (screws underneath) which is awkward and fiddly and they seem to run out a couple of times a year. Ours stopped lighting so after changing the batteries we called out a gas engineer. They replaced 3 different parts (cheapest first) in order to try and find the issue. They replaced the remote control box (£200 ish) but Flavel forgot to mention it wouldnt work with the old remote so had to get one of those (£90 and another weeks waiting) £482 later and now summertime it was working. Came to use it in Oct for the first time since it was fixed and it wouldn't light. Engineer thinks it is the gas valve (£360) Not going to waste more money finding out

“Flavel Curve - How to Light Manually.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 11/08/2020

My Gas Engineer is a star. After many tries to find out why it wouldn't light he rang Flavel and was told how to light it manually. Bit of a Faff - but it does work. Here goes !...... Lift the Facsia off and set aside. Lift the cover of the ignition mechanism, which is on the lefthand side - and set this aside. NOW - turn the wheel fully towards you (clockwise) - then push a screwdriver into the hole in the wheel ( this opens the gas valve) and keep it pressed in with your left hand - AT THE SAME TIME - light the pilot light with a match or lighter. When lit - HOLD IN THE SCREWDRIVER AND HOLD FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS ( TO WARM THE COIL) then remove the screwdriver ( or pencil will do ) and the light stays in. NOW - remember to turn the wheel back again ( anticlockwise) before assembling the covers. This does work - I have done it many times. - Although it is extremely annoying with a £800 fire.

“Used 3 times”

★☆☆☆☆

written by landcross12 on 16/11/2019

Very difficult to light with remote.. Pilot light goes out when on standby. Wish it had an option to light with match. Only used three times in two years but going to replace it. When you need it you just cannot light it!

“electronic problems ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AlizaMueller on 08/11/2018

I also have electronic problems and had varies engineers look at the fire without success but hey ho i had to buy a remote control for the fire as the original was damaged , i bought this at a cost of £97 . i have since found out that you should not buy this on it's own as the receiver in the fire is factory set and paired with the remote control but the supplier did not offer this information at the time of ordering the remote control . This fire is probably the worst item we have ever spent money on so stay clear .

Impossible to fix without an Flavel engineer. Called many corgi registered none can fix it. Flavel engineer booked for 3-4 months and lives 160 miles away. Spare parts are very expenisve. stay away from this brand.

“DON'T BUY ! IGNITION PROBLEMS.”

written by Trippc349 on 08/09/2016

Ignition problems multiple times while practically brand new. Sneaky clauses in warranty to avoid fixing. Staff well trained to avoid responsibility. Unscrupulous company. Very expensive parts.

“burns itself out after an hour”

★☆☆☆☆

written by stillfirm on 22/04/2016

first of all, the customer service gang wont do anything like send any kind of engineer unless it has been serviced. even then, i struggled to get anyone out to look at it. and when I did, he said to keep an eye on it, gave me his number and despite ringing him and cusomter support, i never saw him again. Basically whilst it looks good and chucks out a decent amount of heat (and doesnt need an airbrick) it gets to a point where it just blows itself out. The pilot light starts to flicker and that's it. We've replaced the pilot assembly, no difference. Once it's gone out, you can get it to light again, but it lasts perhaps for 10 or 20 mins before extinguishing itself again. Dont bother. Spend £600 in a better way.

Ttt125's Response to stillfirm's Review

Written on: 08/10/2017

Totally agree with this review, l spent £600 on this fire plus £125 fitting. Turns itself off for no reason then won't light again. I will never buy anything from Flavel again. Do thay not test there gas fires before going into production ? Thay must not have a quality control department. Stay away from this fire and stay away from Flavel. Thay cost me £725 and I need to BUY a new fire.

“Rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by tzBennett170 on 30/10/2015

Had this fire 2 years and scrapping it. The fire starting going wrong within a few weeks of purchase. I am in my late sixties and struggle changing batteries every couple of months. The warranty is worthless and the company support staff are well trained in the art of the get out clause. I would strongly advise Stay Clear of this fire

this appliance has been a complete waste of space since it was correctly installed, I recently tried to purchase an ignition box but decided against this when I was told it would cost £220 plus vat. this is disgusting.

Amazed that directfiresonline have a good review. I would definitely not recommend them. They advertise goods which are not in stock take your money and then do not answer the phone.

Just about to see them in court

I found this review not helpful because...the service i receieved from directfiresonline was second to none. great price, instant delievery and great backup with the delivery confirmed so i knew when to be in. The curve is a great fire as it literaly hangs on the wall with a sweet flme effect. The heat is awesome. Can't wait for winter, now, lol.

“i bought this gas fire from...”

★★★★☆

written by januzmerkle on 24/11/2009

i bought this gas fire from http://www.directfiresonline.co.uk because i was sick of my boring fireplace. my fireplace was takin gup too much space and makes the room look smaller than it is. so too cut a long story short, i found this gorgeous hole in the wall gas fire ( www.directfiresonline.co.uk/Hole-in-the-Wall-Gas-Fires/Curve-Hang-on-the-Wall-Gas-Fire/product8.aspx ) by FLAVEL after being recomemnded it by a helpful DirectFiresOnline.co.uk customer service advisor. the design is absolutely stunning. space conserving. it uses real gas, and you need to install it with a certified gas installer. plus it comes with a 3 year guarantee which is a plus. this fireplace has been installed almost a year ago and is still going strong. its the first thing people talk about the moment they enter my living room!

Have the same model and has stopped working after its first year. We had it serviced just before it broke down. We rarely used it and we started using the radiators in the house.

We finally found the paperwork in the second year and trang the manufacturers. They said we should have got it serviced again in the second year. We are still in the 3 years manufacturers warranty but we will now have to pay for one of there service engineers to come out. We have use it for the first winter in the first year we bought it and then it broke down.

The replacements parts are very very expensive. :-(
