“Pride of Kent should improve its ambiance and exchange...”

★★☆☆☆

written by mracb on 16/08/2018

9:50 am sailing from Calais to Dover: Ship, the main restaurant was freezing cold. Full English breakfast plus the following was unexpectedly expensive - 2 teas, sandwich, coffee drink, 3 butters, 2 toasts came to 30 euros (not far off 30 pounds at today's exchange rate of nearly 1:1). By the time I paid (no queueing) and sat down much of the cooked breakfast was cool or even cold. Why can the plates not be warm? A good offer for sherries in the shop - 2 for 16 pounds. At the till I tried paying in euros (about 17 euros?) but was going to be charged 21 euros... I paid in sterling. Perhaps breakfast should have been paid in sterling too but was not advised about P&O's exchange rate then.

“Refusal to allow boarding of late ferry because 'late'”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ZaCraig on 25/05/2016

We are seriously annoyed! P & O sent us a text message to say their Dover to Calais crossing was running 40 minutes late. We thought this was a useful improvement to their service. We stopped in Dover to while away some time and arrived at the Port the standard hour before (the new) sailing time. But we were told that check in had closed at the normal time and that we had arrived too late for our booked crossing (We are still trying to work out what the point of the text message about the delay was). Because we have flexible tickets were were checked in for the next crossing (21.15). But that crossing was, we were told, at least 40 minutes late! The check in agent suggested we ask the loading agents to 'forward load' us on the 20.15 when we got to the waiting area. But the loading agent told us the ferry was full! To add insult to injury 10 minutes later an announcement was made that loading for the 20.15 was about to commence! In other words, we were at the port and waiting to load on time for the actual sailing time of the ferry on which we were booked but P & O would not let us board! Actually we are not just annoyed. We are actually angry! Don't use P & O if you can avoid them!

“Late with no reason”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Valderama on 08/10/2015

I have boarded the Endeavour in Dublin on 7/10/15 giving plenty of time as requested by the company. We were late on departure but within 3 hours the ship was across to north Wales and it looked that we're going to be on time. Wrong... Ship slowed down and seemed that was no interested to be punctual . Could not blame weather as it was fine with slight wind and calm sea. Finally the ship docked in Liverpool half an hour later and after another hour I have managed to disembark- it was passed midnight. All over the sitting area were adverts about the P&O stating "expect more" I believe that they missed printing the final word ..DELAYS. The crew in the restaurant were busy speaking between themselves rather than paying attention to the customers, and tables were cleaned up when they finished the debate, leaving behind crumbs from previous user. Overall experience was awful and I will try to avoid sailing with them again.

“Damaged Property”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 300Merritt on 04/10/2015

I had property damaged while travelling on a P&O Ferry recently and I completed a Confirmation of Damage form during my journey and was told to post the attached counterfoil to P&O. 6 weeks later I have had no confirmation or clarification that my form and letter have been received. I spoke with P&O staff at a booking office, near to where I live and was given the tel. No. of someone and I have left 4 voice messages over a two week period, requesting she contact me, but so far this has not happened.

“P&O ferries sales team on-board sell Disney tickets...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DrSB on 15/09/2015

P&O ferries sales team on-board sell Disney tickets and publicise it as 30% cheaper than at the gate. Not only we got the ticket at the same price but the BIG thing was that they sold us the SuperMagic tickets which are the most expensive and are normally valid for one year. We were told by the sales attendant that it will be valid for one year. We did not manage to go to Disneyland in that trip and opened our tickets after few few months to find that those tickets were only valid for 17 days from the time of purchase. The company hence refused to extend or refund those tickets .

“customer care getting worse ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nqBartlett381 on 22/05/2015

I have travelled twice on p&o ferries in the last month and i have to say they are getting well run down & more interested in giving you the hard sales talk than any customer services. I asked were the kids play area was they said we are doing away with them ( but fill every little space with games machines, ok if your child is 13yrs old with lots of money but not if you have younger ones ) he then said we have a tv set with cartoons for the little ones ..but..its not working . Also ive noticed they have started to close the toilets before the boat docks to stop people using them (probably to save cleaning ) ..no i am not happy with p&o ferries , definitely no good if you have children . I shall book with a different company from now on ...

“Pathetic AND Obnoxious - uncaring, absolute liars.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sameoldsameold on 31/03/2015

The lead member is disturbed in his bed at 02.15 a.m. to be advised that the service ( I use the word loosely)is running one hour late! Upon arrival at Dover at usual check in time (as advised) we find only TWO check in booths open and had our ferry been on time we would have missed it!! The captain's announcement (spirit of France 09.25 sailing)apologised for the ONE hour delay due to HIGH WINDS DURING THE NIGHT, the crew were very friendly and the service good. A day trip round Calais was enjoyed and we reported, as instructed, on time at the port of Calais for the 17.15 (French time)only to be LIED to at the check in desk that the delay to our ferry would result in a sailing time of 18.30 French time. Upon arrival at the P.O.P.G.P (drunked off peoples gathering point) or the lanes, we are greeted by no less than THREE, yes THREE P&O vessels on their berths!!!!! Only to sit helplessly and watch them depart almost empty because you money grabbing illegitimates want extra money to sail on a ship that is two hours late but is on time for our PRE - BOOKED ticket!!!!! We then wait a further TWO screwing HOURS for another ship to repatriate us to England!!!! Our spirit is now nearly broken and determination to NEVER USE YOUR PATHETIC SERVICE AGAIN ingrained, only for the captain of the Spirit of France telling us that the delay is due to "overnight strong winds", that incidentally had decreased enough that they were not strong enough to blow the smell of his cow's excrement away, do you really think that we are that pathetic??!! You should at least have the decency to be up front with us, however bad the news the truth is received a lot better. You have seen the last of my money you self serving scabby wankers!!! P.S. If you are a female reading this please accept my apologies for my bad language.

“Travel, fun, Xmas shopping, exploring-all in one.”

written by aberbargoed1 on 11/12/2014

2 night Murder Mystery P&O Ferry trip to Brugge aimed at all ages. Amazing time (our 2nd). The murder mystery team are first class and all seems real because of their acting ability. Great for any budding Sherlock Holmes as lots of questions and deductions, whilst having fun. Made lots of friends. Prize for winners. Also 2 other fun quizzes if you wished to do them. Food was excellent on the ferry with lots of choice. Service 1st class. Full day in Brugges-beautiful city. If you bumped into the 'team' they still stayed in character!! EXCELLENT value for money. Would suggest upgrade to 4 berth as cabins small, but do provide shower/wash soap and towels. Take a 2 pin travel adaptor. My only disappointment is that I would love to go to different european countries, but Brugges is currently the only one they do. This trip is HIGHLY recommended.

“Club class ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Abcde2468 on 19/05/2014

After travelling to larne from Troon for the last few years we decided to try the new club class ticket ,the journey over to larne from Troon we were pleasantly surprised ,loading was fine and the lounge was fine ,however I was very disappointed in the tea and coffee ,was from a machine and the water was lukewarm never got any warmer all through the journey ,there was pastries fruit biscuits nuts and free soft drinks and wine , .however on the return journey things were not so good the tea and coffee machine still was serving tepid water surely you could install a hot water geyser to ensure hot drinks were really hot also I tried for a hot chocolate but did not seem to put any chocolate in the cup I asked the girl serving in the lounge what the problem might be she replied very nicely I might add it goes like that all the time . There was only a few packets of biscuits and some peanuts to eat when I asked about pastries was told you only get them in the morning . I looked at the menu for a snack and noticed the prices were at least £2.00 more than they were in the other eating areas ,so not only do we pay more to get into the lounge we had to pay more for the same food that was being served in other parts of the ship .overall it was far from good value ,and I was sorely disappointed .may I suggest that some one from your customer service trie the sterna line club class lounge ,I think your company could learn from it .they have a much better selection of free food and snacks on offer and piping hot drinks .may I also say we have travelled on the Troon to larne ferries for years and this was the one time I have been disappointed . I would never recommend the club class to anyone it was very very poor ,we travelled out on Monday the 12th of May and returned on Sunday the 18th . A very disappointed regular Mrs e a kelly ps . I would l be grateful for a reply

“Bad customer Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BrennaWheeler479 on 23/04/2014

Received booking confirmation no E. Ticket. It then took four emails to get ticket with correct information. Wrong number of people took three attempts to have this Corrected. Booked Flexi ticket so had to point this out. It seemed they do not check booking information and seem to imply Customer is being unreasonable asking for a printable ticket with correct information.

“Think budget airline”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dollie67 on 03/09/2012

If you think it's only budget airlines who fill their craft with whoever happens to turn up first then think again. I booked a two family holiday, with friends, a year in advance, and booked ferry travel at the same time. Not a lot of competition around nowadays but booking early with P&O seemed a reasonable option. Outward travel went reasonably smoothly. Boat was on time. On board a bit grubby and enormous queues for a mediocre overpriced breakfast but not too bad. Coming home was another story. Arrived at Calais almost 90 minutes before last check in but after queuing for an hour to get through check in (it seemed as if they were being deliberately slow) we were told our boat was "very late" and we would be put on a later crossing with another operator (MyFerryLink). Bizarrely I'd been talking to our friends on the mobile who were already seated in the lounge of a P&O ferry - it turns out they were put on the earlier, late running ferry, without explanation. I challenged the check-in personnel about this but the staff member just shrugged. She couldn't have cared less. Organisation was awful. We had to park off to one side of the check-in booths with dozens of other cars and walk through the traffic to the myferrylink booth to change the ticket. We were told the boat would sail at 9pm, but this also was wrong. We watched two P&O ferries sail past while we waited to board. I am totally disgusted at this treatment of paying customers, particularly as our booking disallowed us from making any changes to our booking time without penalty. We didn't get to say goodbye to our friends after a great holiday, we were late getting home with work the next day and the children were exhausted. There was never a hint of an apology from anyone at P&O and I gather from other regular customers that this is the norm, not the exception. I will definitely be using the tunnel next time.

“Good but still the same problems”

★★★★☆

written by JoeJackson1959 on 13/07/2012

Hmm.. what to say about P&O? I guess you can't really complain can you? I mean nothing is great but things seem to have stayed the same for quite a few years and I still get the impression that they are more concerned with making money from the extras - meals and games and gambling machines than actually giving you a good experience on your ferry crossing. I think quite a telling point is that it's actually impossible to find a seat or a sofa that faces out to sea. Personally, one a one hour crossing, I'm perfectly content to sit and watch the world go by. However, P&O have very different ideas! They'd rather I went and gambled, played games or bought a full English breakfast and so they turn all their seats to face inward and all the seating areas it seems are near areas where you should spend money. Reminds me of our airports to be honest, everyhing's about making a quick buck rather than a good service.

“Ticket with P&0 purchased through Caravan Club with...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by andrew easom on 22/02/2011

Ticket with P&0 purchased through Caravan Club with stated amendment fee of £10. Wanted to change sailing due to illness from peak time crossing to off peak. Plenty of space but rude french woman at Calais office said we must ring the Caravan Club and insisted we pay extra 49 euros, almost as much as original fare. Caravan club failed to assist and wasted our time and money, over £12 for telephone call, by first deliberately cutting off our call then putting us on hold forever. Illness of a party member forced us to pay up! Suggest you book direct with a decent company such as Norfolk line or Sea France.

“I used P&O ferries last year for the first time. We...”

★★★★☆

written by Taylott on 19/11/2009

I used P&O ferries last year for the first time. We travelled from Dover to Calais. The booked an early crossing, 6am, so that we could make the most of the day, and the price was slightly cheaper at that time.

Overall I was quite impressed with the whole experience. Upon arrival at Dover, were allocated a lane to wait in, and when the ferry was ready, we all drove on in an orderly fashion. The crossing itself was a couple of hours. Food on the ferry was adequate, and offered plenty of seating areas to relax.

As soon as we arrived at Calais, we all drove off the ferry, again in an orderly fashion. My only negative would be the wait on the way back. For some reason we were delayed in Calais for approximately 2 hours, and no one really gave us a reasonable explanation.

Apart from that, I would recommend using P&O ferries for those quick trips across the channel.
