Excellent Content But Could Have Been Better!

Excellent Content But Could Have Been Better!

For some obvious reasons, I don't personally read or rely on text books when it comes to IT, computers or modern technology.

So, I bought this small book (measuring 18 cmx12.7cmx1.3 cm) as a present for a cousin of mine who was interested into computer networking.

The book is slim, cut-down and an earlier version? of Teach Yourself VISUALLY Wireless Networking 2nd Edition, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Teach-Yourself-Visually-Wireless-Networking/dp/0470072695/ref=cm_cr-mr-title, but with some chapters missing.

It was sensible to leave out some general computing chapters included in the Teach Yourself VISUALLY Wireless Networking, namely, chapters 6 (Office suites, E-mail apps, Web browsers, FTP file transfer, synchronising), 7 (Types of communication software, Outlook Express, Web mail etc), 8 (PowerPoint Presentations, slide shows etc) and 9 (Online music, Yahoo! music, Weblogs or blogs, streaming audio, online gaming) could be left out but the omission of chapters 14 (Improving Network Performance) and 15 (Troubleshooting Wireless Networking) was a mistake for a book about Wireless Networking!

Just like its bigger edition, it is a bit too general and very useful for background information purposes eg study, course text book etc but not so very good on practical Wireless Networking. Nevertheless, still very useful and comprehensive info though in small text for some people.

In short, an important and excellent content on wireless networking, computers and modern technology in general but not very practical or complete when it comes to Wireless Networking. That's, a simple or quick step by step instructions on wireless hardware and software would have been much better.
