“had great experience”

I had great experience using this bread maker. What i liked most is the convention fan to control the temperature. It makes the bread within the 1 hour.

“Disappointing results”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Marisolu117 on 16/06/2016

I have used a Panasonic for 10 years with excellent results. When the Panasonic finally wore out, I decided to look around at the various options. Kenwood had some good reviews so I bought one. I have made six different loaves so far and the results have been awful in terms of size, crust and quality. Almost on the point of ditching it and buying another Panasonic. It is expensive to make a loaf and throw half away because no-one wants to eat it. Recipe book is glossy with pretty pictures but the results are nothing like the photos. The keypad is not user friendly and the bleep at the end of the cycle is so quiet you would only hear it if you were next to it. The internal light is useful and the 'time remaining' display is good but the machine needs to produce a good loaf every time. I have yet to get an edible loaf out of it.

“Great machine but so unreliable”

★★☆☆☆

written by Tractors2go on 29/04/2013

This machine looks good and produces excellent bread of all types and sizes, great. however it is very noisy. I bought this machine 18 months ago and use it every night for a loaf in the morning. lovely getting up to that fresh bread smell. 13 months and the hub and drive coupling shattered. out of warranty of course, dealer didn't want to know neither did Kenwood. managed to find a spare and fix it myself. Now the O ring on the bottom of the breadpan has gone so the water just passes through. course you can't get individual spares (not little bits) so have to buy a new pan. Very Very disappointed with this machine when it comes to reliability. Bought expensive to get the best (so I thought ) and keep having problems. POOR.

“Amazing Bread For All The Family”

★★★★★

written by Jen.Hill on 10/04/2013

I got the Kenwood BM450 as a gift for my birthday last month. Having used a variety of bread making tools over the years, I was so happy with this product, as it gave myself and my family the ability to make a combination of different loaves. I would highly recommend this product to anyone interested in quick and easy home baking. J.Hill

“great machine, rotten after sales”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Daibhidh on 25/02/2013

I purchased this machine in July last year and was impressed. I used it nearly every day. The non-stick surface of the bread pan wore out fairly quickly around the kneader spindle, due to a burr on the kneader. I ordered a new bread pan and kneader in November. The kneader was delivered within a few days. I am still waiting for the bread pan and have just been informed that it may be available around the end of March. I would rate this machine highly but, since it isn't much use without a bread pan, it gets one star for service.

“ Recipes should be reserached for Indian markets..”

★★★★☆

written by on 22/01/2013

After much research i bought the Kenwood BM 450 in India. The machine is sleek, stylish and relatively easy to operate. However, i feel the company should have done a lot of research so that its suitable for the Indian market. It is difficult to buy and get the flours. such as granary loaf, whole meal flour etc. After a few successful trials and some failed i am now able to produce a lovely loaf at home. It does brown lesser on the top - i dont know if this is the fault of the machine, or the model?

“Excellent, really excellent”

★★★★★

written by on 06/01/2013

I've had the Kenwood BM450 bread maker for a couple of months now and it has been excellent. With no previous experience I've produced a series of really nice loaves with very little effort. I started with packet mixes but it is very easy to use with separate ingredients and that has given me nicer (and cheaper) loaves. As seems to be the case with all bread makers the key thing is accurately measuring your ingredients then adding them to the pan in the right order. But this takes no time at all. The unit looks great and is very, very easy to clean. I've read some negative comments here and elsewhere but they haven't affected me so far. Some people say it's noisy. Of course it isn't silent. But I live in a small flat where my kitchen and living space are one. I have no issues using this in the evenings while watching TV. Overnight I certainly wouldn't hear it from the bedroom. No idea why people are bothered by the noise level. It is nothing like as noisy as my washing machine and a bought a direct drive washer/dryer just because it scored well for being quiet. Compared with my washing machine the bread maker is very easy on the ears. Some people have also complained about the paddle getting stuck on the spindle. There's a decent amount of play between paddle and spindle on my machine so perhaps this is something Kenwood has tweaked. Equally I always put a little vegetable oil on the spindle. Bottom line is I've never had an issue with the paddle sticking. If I ever do I'd be confident a bit of a soak would make it easy to remove. There's a great range of programs including gluten free and even jam making. And the unit is programmable if you want to do something specific that isn't pre-loaded. I can't imagine I'll need to go there though. There are a lot of reviews out there saying you should only buy a Panasonic if you want a bread maker. Panasonic are obviously good and one of the reasons I wanted a bread maker was having tasted the excellent bread that friends of mine make in their Panasonic. But I found it very easy to match their results with my Kenwood with very little effort. I have a feeling Panasonic is no longer the only game in town and if you want a generously-featured bread maker that looks great and is very easy to use and clean I think the BM450 is an excellent choice.

It Is far to noisy when mixing which is a great shame I would compare it to a washing machine in regards to noise , the time delay is a great idea to wake up with the smell of fresh bread in the air is truly wonderful but sadly not so if you are a light sleeper or unable to go back sleep after hearing the thing mix for half an hour.

Perhaps there are inconsistencies. But there is no way my machine is anything like as noisy as a washing machine. Nor would it wake me up (unless I kept it in my bedroom).

I bought this machine because I was fed up of going to the supermarket and the bread that I wanted was always gone. What I like about the product is I just need to make up the correct amount of ingredient,s put them in the maker set the program and the machine does the rest .

“Very noisy”

★★☆☆☆

written by Iguimaraes on 31/12/2012

The machine is very noisy and is impossible to at night. No interest if it cannot work at night in order to have fresh bread in the morning. I tried to contact kenwood to help me find a solution for isolating the machine but (like other times) not even an automatic reply i received. The customer support is also very bad. I'm.very dissapointed with the machine and kenwood in general. I had an old morphy richards before and was by far a supperior machine.

“Machine broke down after one year, just out of guarantee.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/04/2012

Although difficult to remove the loaf from the paddle, the bread was good. Very noisy while kneading, could not hear the television in next room. The machine stopped kneading completely machine was useless now. Amazon said we were two weeks too late on the one year's guarentee, and Kenwood had no interset, just referred us to a service outlet who wanted £20.00 plus vat to look at it.

“not very reliable”

★★☆☆☆

written by langforp on 06/11/2011

This was our second bread maker. The first one we had was a Panasonic which we had & used for so long that we got fed up with it, but it was still working when we got rid of after about 10 years. The BM450 looks great & works well apart from the difficulty in removing the paddle from the spindle, this is an acquired technique. The reliability is poor however. Just a few weeks after the warranty expired it began to stop partway through a programme. I managed to persuade Kenwood to repair it, however after another 12 months it now has the same problem. In the bin & back to another Panasonic I think! I am disappointed at the short life of this .

“I had asked for a breadmaker and received this Kenwood...”

★★★★★

written by GlynT on 14/05/2011

I had asked for a breadmaker and received this Kenwood 450 as a present for Christmas last. Have used it ever since. I think it's great. Reading some of the other reviews I would like to add: I usually make white multigrain & wholemeal/white mix multigrain. 100% wholemeal I do find on the heavy stodgy side, and more prone to the paddle sticking in the bread. (I use tweezers to gentley pry out) I experiment with the mix of flours, but as long as the total is not over the recipe amount you're ok. I use very strong white flour and the white loaf generally comes out a better shape than wholemeal which looks very mis-shapen on top. Usually use 500/740g mix. Did try the 1Kg mix the other week on the wholemeal/white mix - it was HUGE came right over the top of the pan:) Will stick to smaller loaves. Bread freezes great - and if you defrost uncovered you keep the crisp crust. In my opinion never use more than setting 1 or 2 for crust browning.

“Given as a present and have never used a bread maker...”

★★★★★

written by on 31/03/2011

Given as a present and have never used a bread maker before. WOW !! Have had perfect bread every time, can't understand the negative reviews. We use heavy multigrain flour and recipe 3 (750g),use olive oil instead of butter. We leave to work overnight. bread rises right to top of pan with a rounded crust. As suggested by other comment spray a little oil on the paddle, of course the bread sticks a little but few shakes gets it out, hardly a hassle. After removing bread leave pan to soak for a bit and paddle lifts off easily ( common sense) Tip try using sea salt gives much better rise. Menu is easy to use, if you follow the instructions. Rapid bake works well but bread a bit heavier.
Totally satisfied and would recommend this machine to anyone.

“Have used this breadmaker constantly since Christmas. ...”

Have used this breadmaker constantly since Christmas. Very simple to use if follow instructions and soon get used to display (which initially seems baffling). Put ingredients in, I use setting 1 mostly, check weight setting is ok, press play. So noisy though when kneading haven't used much overnight and when I have condensation from warm loaf made a bit soggy. Answer to paddle probs is spraying paddle with veg oil like frylight I found. All in all very happy and kids love the fresh bread and cakes.

Great looking and function breadmaker, you just can't compare it to others, say what you say, if you trashmouth that I can only think it's due to jealous, or you are really stupid and can't follow simple instructions, or you just had really bad luck and bought a defaulty equipment. My works perfectly, easy to use, to clean, and bakes perfectly. Maybe is because I'm in love with the machine but I just couldn't have any other.. Don't get fooled, this is a perfect breadmaker.

I am a good cook. However we rarely get a loaf that rises. We follow recipes to the letter and its very disappointing and poor. I have taken advice and added vitamin c as suggested by some and increased the water without much success. This machine is style over competence. Buy the Panasonic which is in a different league.

“Only bought it because it was a Which Best Buy. So now...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 03/11/2010

Only bought it because it was a Which Best Buy. So now I know 2 things. Which Best Buys are not and the Kenwood is a very average breadmaker. It is so noisy that you cannot put it on during the night. The bread is no better than anyone elses. The bread sticks to the not nonstick paddle which means when you remove the bread from the pan a large lump rips out of the bottom of the loaf so that when you slice the bread the slices near the middle have big lumps out of them. I wish I had just bought another Panasonic.

written by on 04/10/2010

We purchased a Kenwood BM450 from John Lewis a short while ago. After the first loaf we couldn't remove the kneader paddle, I had to remove the circlip and knock the spindle through, this damaged the seal so we had to order a new bowl assembly - 2 weeks wait. Next loaf and the spindle came out OK. 3rd loaf and again could not remove the spindle despite following instructions re soaking etc. John Lewis have offered to change it for another Kenwood, or another brand or refund the money - no way we will consider another Kenwood, although to be fair the loaves were very nice. Excellent customer service from John Lewis though.

“This kenwood bm450 breadmaker has made me very lazy. I...”

★★★★☆

written by mybreadmaker on 07/06/2010

This kenwood bm450 breadmaker has made me very lazy. I used to make quite a lot of my own bread by hand. Now I enjoy fresh bread all the time although the breadmaker has a dough setting I find the different recipes for loaves are excellent so I don't bother with rolls or different shaped breads. I wasn't too keen at first on the unusual shape (to me)of the loaves and the pale flatter, sometimes lumpy or uneven top and brown sides - the opposite of hand made bread. The taste and texture of the bread and different crust choices more than made up for the first impression. The instruction book doesn't make it clear how to change a setting if a mistake is made when starting a programme but soon worked out pressing stop/start allowed me to sort it out. I do now have a problem after 6 months of the pan leaking water out of the bottom so will have to sort this out.
