The matrix cup is an older version on the church Jane matrix car seat. The latest version which is called the matrix light, is now officially much more roomy and deep enough to be used as a carrycot for overnight sleeping. A first in the world, a car seat that converts into a Car carrycot and house carrycot for sleeping, making it great value for money as it does more than one job. It also now much easier to install as the clips are now part th the shell that install the car. Also I have heard that by early 2011 there will be the worlds first ISOFIX base that can be used in the rearwards facing and lying flat position with the matrix light car seat.

Best car seat for newborn. Well it is difficult to get it in and out of the car and it's heavy, but i was looking for only one thing - safety. My baby really loved it.

Brilliant car seat due to the lie flat option. Having researched car seats and prams etc for ages before buying it was the lie flat option on this seat that clinched the deal for me. Having used it for the last 8 months I would use no other pram/car seat. It has been a total godsend as it allows my baby (who hasn;t always been the best sleeper) to sleep on the go without being disturbed and without me worrying about her spine being damaged. Also becasue baby is lying flat I am happy in the knowledge that she is getting a proper sleep (do you feel better having slept upright on the sofa or lying down on your bed.....?no brainer!). I simpy cannot understand why you would buy a separate car seat and carrycot as you'd have to wake the baby to get it out of the seat to put in the carrycot for any outings longer than one and half hrs (recommended time for baby to be in upright car seat). We have had some briliant days out with this seat and could not have done it had baby been in an upright seat.
When my baby started being nosy (about 3/4mths) this seat really did come into its own. With one hand I can put the seat upright with baby in the seat and she's able to look out and see me. When she gets grunpy I simply lie her flat, snuggle her up and zzzzzzzzzzzzz of she goes to sleep.
The seat is very easy to put into the car and after reading reviews about it being flimsy to attached to seat belt etc and coming loose I can honestly say I have not had this problem. If I had the seat would have been sent straight back to where I bought it from. I have found it safe and secure. My daughter is now 16lbs (nearly 8mths) and still lies flat comfortably in it.
My only fault with this chair is that when in the upright position it can be a bit fiddly to belt into the car. However we also have a maxi cosy (not the one with the isofix) and that too is fiddly. I would say this is a small price to pay when you consider all the other benefits of the seat. On the upside when the seat is upright it is far bigger than a normal stage 1 car seat so will last longer.
Excellent seat!

We bought the Jane matrix cup seat as we really liked the idea of a lie flat seat for a newborn and the sitting upright position when the baby gets older.
This does work very well and my baby sleeps very well in the lie flat position, however my main reason for writing is my concerns over the safety of the seat.
In the lie flay position, the car seat is attached by clips secured by a screw in the seat. The screws in my car seat worked themselves so loose that they fell out, so the seat would not have been attached to anything. I dread to think what would have happened in an accident and it gives me shivers just thinking about it. My friend had the same car seat and I phoned her straight away to check her seat. Hers was exactly the same and the screw came out when touched. We've srewed them back in and super glued them to stop them moving but use the upright seated position now.
The upright seated position is quite difficult to fit also, the clips the seat belt attach through are very fiddly to get through and the seat belt has worn and frayed where it being pulled tight through the back clips.
The seat is good in theory but lacks the crucial part, safety. I would definitely not recommend this to a friend.

Having researched car seats, the matrix cup came top for my needs.
We were very impressed with the fact that the Matrix allows the baby to be transported in a flat position but seated as the flat position is far superior for a new born and better for longer journeys. We have nothing but praise for the people at Jane who designed this system and with our baby now at 5 months and nearly 18lb he is still secure and comfortable when the Matrix is flat in the car, I find this really reassuring as when he is tired I know he is getting a proper rest. Another benefit of the Matrix is being able to take it from the car and click it straight onto the chassis.
this product cannot be faulted for the comfort and security it has given.

My wife and I had heard of "Jane" (pronounced "Yahnay")being one of the few manufacturers to make "lie flat" car seats which suited our baby for longer journeys to see grandparents and the occasional holiday - better for the baby than being in the seating position according to the experts.
The Jan Matrix Cup seat was not cheap but when it arrived it certainly looked good, all trendy-looking fabrics and solid plastic. However, it is so difficult to use that it has almost had me in tears on two occasions. I don't know where to start in listing its faults but suffice to say that we think it has been designed by an amateur!
A few sample problems:
Starting with the instructions, these have been translated from , I think, Spanish , and require some interpretation. There are two buckles at each end of the seat which fix onto the seat belts and these buckles flap around threatening to fall off and become lost. The buckles themselves are either jammed shut or flap open, leaving me feeling insecure they could open at any time with the poor safety implications.
The lining of the car seat is an unbreathable plastic which left our baby soaked in sweat. Then there are the shoulder straps themselves, almost impossible to adjust without removing the seat from the car and leaving both baby - and parent - close to tears! Finally, the seat is supposed to be appropriate for babies up to 12 months which I doubt as our baby is only 4 months old, of average size, and fills the seat already! So we have been duped into buying a seat that will not last as long as we expected.
This is an expensive, premium brand baby seat which is a poor relation of the Brita seat we have used up until now (the only reason we bought it was the "lie flat" function). I can't wait to get it on Ebay.
