The Sony DSC-P7 is my first digital camera and so I'm no expert, but after doing all the research and deciding on this unit, I was not dissapointed when it came. The size cannot be beaten for quality and features. It can actually fit comfortably in a pocket.
The basic features are logical and straight forward; you can be making use of it without even reading the manual. The fancy stuff can be read and used when you are ready to do more.
The battery life is good compared to other models but since I prefer to use the screen at the back rather then the optical viewfinder, I ordered a spare battery. The screen quality is great for showing off pics to friends.
The 16MB memory stick holds about 12 pics at full res. I have also ordered a 128MB stick for taking on trips etc.
Another great feature that works well is the Movie capture mode with sound! The P71 I was looking at doesn't have sound. The newly announced P72 has sound capability but is still larger than the P7.
Great camera, highly recommended!

Having previously owned a Samsung Digimax 230 I was looking for a camera a bit more up market that combined performance with looks and ease of use. As I am basically a 'point and shoot' photogropher i wanted something that I could get to grips with straight away until I develop my knowledge of digital photography. The P7 does the job and I can't say how impressed I am. Having looked at rival cameras in the same bracket I am blown away by the P7's performance. Having originally decided to buy the slightly older and bigger P71 I'm glad I took the time to play with the P7 in the shop. It just doesn't disappoint at all. If you are picky you could question whether the P7 is worth an extra 80 quid over the P71 but I think it's money well spent and this camera will last me for years. My only slightly negative comment would be that Sony only supply a 16Mb memory stick with the cam - not really enough to do anything but have an initial play with the camera. I bought the 128Mb which will allow me around 65 snaps at full resolution - plenty. A word of warning though - the memory sticks are NOT cheap - around 70 quid for the 128 Mb. You can get some good deals if you shop around though. Final word is, for anyone considering this camera - just do it! You will not be disappointed.
