I bought SQS 2501 a year ago and I was pleased with it but now it has completely died and when stripped down, was found that it had rusted and seized up completely. Save your money!

the shredder is not one i would recommend as the casting that houses the adjuster is of poor quality material i found that it would not shred just crush, it was stripped down to see why the adjuster was not working and it was found that the casting had fractured.i have seen other reports and this seems to be a common problem not what you would expect from a machine that costs over £150

Bought this shredder at the start of the summer for clearing a large overgrown garden. It hasn't missed a beat, shredding leaves, twigs and branches up to 40mm all summer. The tool is robust, well engineered and the large motor never seems to be under any strain, running all day shredding branches etc without any problem. The design is well thought out with a solid chassis and hard capture bucket and better than other light weight shredders I've seen. It is better suited to shredding larger items than leaves. I had thought of hiring a heavier duty shredder but this has done the same job and saved me a fortune in hire charges and trips to the dump. Incidentally the wheel trims have not come off!

Read through some of the reviews, we bought this shredder today.
We have used it for a couple of hours and its been fantastic and makes light work of anything sensible ie 40mm max . Foliage can be a problem as it can be with any domestic shredder if there's no twigs or branches going through with the leaves the leaves clog up above the cutter but usually can be cleared feeding a branch through .
The wheel trims will go on properly if your patient, and will make a "click" , otherwise will drope straight off.

Very easy to assemble and looks to be a heavy duty machine. However, that's as far as it goes.
Had to return and exchange the first machine as it would not start despite following all instructions and making sure the collection bin securing handle was in locked position.
Had to return the second machine that started but cut out after about 10 seconds having "chopped" a 2cm x 31cm twig.
Not impressed

This weekend I bought the Sovereign 2500w Quiet Shredder after discussing my needs with the Homebase assistant who was very helpful although had never used it himself. After setting it up (very easy although quite heavy to lift) and reading the instructions I started shredding. When I checked the box I found NOTHING had shredded, it was just crushed with a few notches in. So I adjusted the plate (with knob on side, very easy to do) but with the same result. I tried adjusting it a bit at a time from wide open to closed up with all thicknesses and types of garden material with the same crushed result. I phoned Homebase who went through it all with me and there was nothing left to try so am returning it. I would add that there was already a returned one in the shop, should've been a warning! The only good thing about it is that it is remarkably quiet. If you want a crusher, fine. If you want a shredder, AVOID!

I have used a SQS 2500 for about 3 years and found it to be excellent in performance cutting 42mm without to much bother. Other reviewers should have read the instruction manual as you need to adjust the pressure plate to cut the larger diameters. Also the pressure plate needs to be released to 'backup' a jamb. One crib is the plate adjustment bolt is fiddly to get to, I extended mine so that you can adjust it easily.

Second time I used it, it jammed on a 30mm branch (spec says it will take 40mm). Reversing direction did nothing beyond getting a stuck hum from the motor. I had to literally strip it down to component parts to get the branch out, and when I put it back together, it was dead.
Not fit for purpose - AVOID!

I have just finished my first job with this Sovereign Quiet Garden Shredder. After making the neccessary adjustments to the blade I found that it made an excellent job of everything I fed into it. As in a previous review the wheel covers are a poor fit and are a waste of money. They have fallen off so many times that they will now stay off.

Assembly was easy of the Sovereign Quiet Garden Shredder 2500W, but the press-on wheel covers fell off the minute the shredder was moved, so they will stay off. Complete rubbish.
I found myself rather disappointed initially with this shredder, and wished I had gone for an equivalent Bosch model, as reviews seemed favourable and enthusiastic. When first used, the Sovereign 2500, £159 from Homebase seemed to be more of a crusher than a shredder, with green twigs passing through untouched in some cases. I persevered and adjusted the blade to the closest I could. Better results then. Dry branches up to 4 cm diameter made great chips. The specification on the Homebase site indicated that branches up to 540mm diameter could be shredded. Half a metre - ish? I don't think so!
The shredder comes with a good sized box for catching the shredded material, and the shredder won't work unless it is locked in place. I have struggled before with bags, and this is definitely preferable. In operation the shredder, with its spiral cutting system is fairly quiet, even when shredding.
