“NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS”

written by WhiteFangs on 19/06/2023

Went to Forever Hotel Olu Deniz. Turkey Pub crawl first night at hotel.. A woman danced with one of our party and her partner was fuming so I quietly informed the rep so she was aware of the worrying situation as she had a lot to drink and was dancing, She screamed right in my face - I left the bar. Returned 15 mins later to be abused again so left the group to try to find my way back. Naturally this really messed up the singles holiday . MD gave platitudes but did not take it seriously. I'm sure with come with a long explanation BUT when I told the hotel owner , he laughed. So the company have accepted this behaviour for a long time. Date of experience: 26 September 2022

“Friendship Travel staying at H10 Lanzarote Princess...”

★★★★☆

written by acelondon on 09/03/2023

‘Friendship Travel, staying at H10 Lanzarote Princess Feb 2023' The customer service offered by the Friendship Travel team was Good, but the Host on the holiday with us was Excellent, always willing to go the extra mile and if he could do anything for you he would without any problem, the hotel food was good and the hotel Staff were Excellent always willing to go the extra mile. The only negative thing about the Hotel was the Freezing cold outside pool; I would have expected it to have been heated in the winter months? Like many others are in the local area that I have stayed at in the past... There was an outside heated very small pool covered with like plastic pvc poly carbonate sheets but it was pack and over crowded with kids jumping on top of you as you were trying swim, so my swimming pool experience was not so good. I have booked another holiday with Friendship Travel for June 2023 so you will see me again about that one Lol

“Dellarosa Hotel and Spa Marrakech”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 17/01/2019

4 day break over Christmas 2018 which was very expensive considering the standard of the holiday & hotel. My room was a small box with a window, no view, complimentary toiletries were not replenished daily, towels were grey & threadbare with holes & the bath moved when you got in.The host was pleasant but most of her time was spent looking after another guest. The trips were very expensive & not worth the money. 10 of us went on a walking tour of Marrakech (30 euros each) for 3 1/2 hours which included the hard sell carpet & pharmacy shops-someone is making a lot of money 300 euros for half a days walk!! The Moroccan evening entertainment trip was 56 euros & consisted of 50 minutes entertainment & a very poor quality meal. Most of the group were lovely which was the only saving grace.

Asked for ski holiday quote excluding flights as I was coming from Australia; I emailed I'd meet the group in Geneva, which the website specified as the destination ex-Gatwick for Tignes. Was provided this; tried to book and was then informed (after I've booked my flights) that they fly into Grenoble. No explanation. I ask for coverage of extra transfer - hear nothing for 3-days, then the holiday price has gone up by more than 50%, from GBS985 to GBS1445.

I was thinking of booking that holiday to Tignes - but your review, and others, don't seem good...
They weren't very helpful when I called them up either.

“Portuguese Holiday”

★★★☆☆

written by on 22/07/2017

I went to Olhos D'agua in June for a week's holiday and had a great time. I don't know what some people expect after reading very negative reviews. I had no problems booking my holiday and found the admin staff to be friendly and helpful. It is not the problem of Friendship Travel if there are more women than men on these holidays, men traditionally are less likely to book singles holidays. On my holiday there was one male and seven females but it didn't matter in the slightest, everyone bonded and socialised together. It is more expensive to book a singles holiday but all singles companies are the same, not just Friendship Travel. The hotel we stayed at in Portugal, the Oceanus, was not the best, very basic even for a 3 star and I wouldn't go back there. We were not in the main building but in an annexe next door, the main building rooms looked a lot better than the annexe ones. There was a cocktail bar in the basement of the main building but it was dark and dingy, why would you want to be there when the sun is still shining and you can be sitting outside with a drink. Breakfast was taken in the snack bar by one of the two small pools. Two of the guests in our party were quite ill after both had been swimming in the main pool. We ate out every evening in different restaurants and had some lovely food. Our host Cathy joined us every day except her one day off. The group all got on together and generally went off and did their own thing during the day but we all went out together every evening. I would recommend Olhos D'Agua as a resort, it's a small, very pretty place with a lovely beach and lots of really good restaurants and close to Albufeira and Villamoura for a change of scene but I wouldn't go back to the Oceanus. I believe that Friendship Travel are looking for alternative accommodation in that area now so it will be interesting to where they will be going next season. All in all I had a great time but you have to go with an open mind and be prepared to be sociable and not nit pick about your fellow travellers.

“Amazing trip to The Body Holiday in St Lucia”

★★★★☆

written by ZoeMurdock on 15/03/2017

I have just returned from The BodyHoliday in St Lucia and can use only one word - amazing. The resort itself is beyond fabulous with everything included - and I mean everything. Food, drinks, classes, treatments etc. The staff are on hand at all times to make sure you have the time of your life. The booking process was very easy with the staff at Friendship Travel having visited the resorts themselves - this always makes for the best advice and they really did know everything. The only downside was the long transfer on arrival - nearly 90 minutes. Maybe I'll have to opt for the helicopter transfer next time.

“Skiing at Chalet Maya”

written by on 13/03/2017

Just back from a fantastic ski holiday at Chalet Maya in Alpe D'Heuz. The food was great, location was great and loads of snow so conditions were perfect! Staff were always happy to help and know the area so well. This was my 1st time on holiday by myself but is the best holiday I've had in ages - I will definately be back next year! Thanks Friendship Travel!

“Best Christmas in Years!”

★★★★★

written by on 03/03/2017

Each year I stress myself worrying about what to do at Christmas, so this year I did my first single break at the Donnington Valley hotel. What a fab place, with a relaxing spa and indoor pool. Plenty of food and drink, lots of friendly people to mix with, and so much going on, I certainly didn't have time to get bored. It was the most fun ive had in years and wouldn't hesitate to do it again, and would love to back to that lovely hotel. I just wish I had known about it years ago.

“Worst ever singles company.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hollis391 on 08/12/2016

My recent holiday with FT to Lanzarote was tainted by lies from the customer sales team on the number of people's booked on the triP and idiotic transfer times 4hrs before the flight. Don't go with FT unless you're 60 yrs plus. Most of the people who go with this company are generally retired. I hated this holiday as it's the group you're with who make the holiday great. Everyone else was over 60 bar me and went to bed at 1030. What a holiday . #absolutewasteofmoney

“Excellent service and holidays!”

★★★★★

written by Rioja on 06/08/2015

I have been travelling with FT over many years and always had good service and a good holiday. Have to say that group behaviour theory is part of these holidays and if you go with a positive attitude you will be fine, looking to moan and find problems is no way to enjoy yourself! To enlarge on that I have seen people in a 5* hotel complain about nothing really and waste their holiday going on and on about one thing whereas I have been in a 2*+ hotel with just the basics, with a fun a group that rates it highly. As for some comments saying they are expensive, they are not if you do your research properly especially compared to another major competitior that has let me down on more than one occassion in the past.

“Greedy Cancellation Fees”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gorman386 on 10/02/2015

I am currently having major dental treatment and cancelled the weekend In Glasgow holiday; having read the cancellation terms which are extremely expensive I am left giving FT £220 from a £300 odd holiday. My refund which they have failed to put through is only £100 odd. Just a warning to others if you book and have to cancel make sure you do it the same week as booking otherwise you will be robbed. I will be looking elsewhere for my next singles holiday.

Ftmdcolum's Comment

Written on: 23/06/2015

I am sorry you felt our cancellation fees were greedy. We refund all clients the money due when they cancel, to the card used for payment. Normally banks take 3 to 5 working days to credit this back to your account.

Always pays to read the small print and also to have worldwide insurance that covers holidays in the UK as well. Most travel cos are just as expensive to cancel at short notice.

“Berkshire Christmas & New Year 2015”

★★★★☆

written by 98Ross on 03/01/2015

Newbury, Berkshire Donnington Hotel & Spa Christmas & New Year was enjoyable. Spacious guest rooms, champagne reception, daily newspapers, friendly helpful staff, great food, nearby golf course, evening quiz, 10-pin-bowling, after dinner dancing, daily countryside walks followed by a visit to the local pub, Newbury is within walking distance with a decent size shopping centre. Mel and her staff of FT worked tirelessly, keeping the group advised of timings of meals, activities etc. Note: The bar prices were expensive @ £5.50 for a vodka & tonic. Unfortunately major railway works at Reading took place over Xmas/New Year which was a concern. Upon arrival a £50 hold on my credit card was made to cover "extras", this was used by some guests who signed for meals and drinks.

“Beware of Friendship Travel - Worst singles holiday”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Crispies on 30/08/2014

to follow through for the rest of my holiday. Expensive holiday ruined and My Friendship holiday was a disaster from start to finish as the admin staff in their office are useless and this was total loss of confidence to travel again. I can't start to go through the poor accommodation with only a handful of guests who invariably went to their rooms after dinner leaving me a truly 'single solo'. No rep or host help just a sales person selling excursions. Would not recommend and would never travel with Miserable Friendship Travel again - worst ever holiday. I would like to have been advised of true numbers on the holiday and not lies, plus honesty on resort itself. Walker

Dianecarpenter's Response to Crispies's Review

I have to totally disagree with all the negative reviews of Ft. I went on a FT holiday to Crete this year and this was my first holiday in 4 years, so I hoped that I was making the right choice as it was my first experience travelling alone. I had no problems with the admin staff re. booking my holiday, who were helpful and courteous. My holiday was brilliant and accommodation was as advertised, our host was fantastic, extremely helpful and friendly. It was even better than I anticipated, with fun and good conversation from other FT guests and no-one made me feel that I had to join in with anything I didn't want to. I did, pretty much, what I wanted to do. The choice of various restaurants in the local village of Koutouloufari chosen by our host were of good reasonable and sometimes excellent standard. All in all, a brilliant holiday and will definitely travel with them again if anything like my holiday in Crete!

I am sorry you did not enjoy your holiday with us. We aim to provide an excellent holiday to all clients. On certain holidays as detailed in our brochure or web site (usually long haul Caribbean), a local rep visits and they are suited to independent travellers who don't want an organised group with a UK host.

I am sorry you found our UK staff 'useless', this is not how the hundreds of other reviews have rated our UK team.

I cannot agree more. I have had the misfortune to experience this company. The company director clearly trains his staff to be selective with the truth. They are also amazingly good at not knowing the answer and always need to consult Colum! The poor chap on my holiday was told he was one of three males only to find himself alone with 10 women. I have been on a Gulet cruise with just two other single women and three Italian couples (married) nothing to do with Friendship - but this apparently does not constitute a significant change to the "exclusive solos house party" that I spent my hard-earned cash on!. Unless you are easily pleased (and fortunately for the Mr McLaren lots are) RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

“Poor customer service and holiday representative”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 12/08/2014

Friendship Travel representative was so nasty and unhelpful. If you didn't want to be part of his 'party pack' which meant going out drinking until all hours after the evening meal he turned nasty and people were ostracised by him accordingly. He didn't seem to understand some people, especially slightly older, simply wanted a chill out relaxing break which he ensured with his manner did not happen. Friendship Travel were informed about this person's behavious but he has remained in their employment and to the horror of certain people he reappeared on another holdiay booked even though reassurance had been given when booking that he was not longer a part of the company. All lies. Rooms were not as described in the brochure and no help was given by this representative to change them. AWFUL holiday, wouldn't trust Friendship Travel ever again.

“Reasonable holiday, but sometimes a bit dull”

★★★☆☆

written by Ford424 on 19/06/2014

Hi, I have recently returned from a week in Turkey, having booked with Friendship Travel, so I am well-qualified to give my opinions. Anyway they should not worry too much, the holiday was reasonably good. Surprisingly for June, the weather in Turkey was poor. When I arrived it was actually quite cold! The hotel was up in the mountains, which normally gives some respite from the heat of summer. The weather was a very mixed bag on this holiday, alternately cloudy, windy, hot, rainy, and chilly! The hotel was nice. I have stayed at this lovely little hotel before, and although it is basic, the staff are lovely, and the food excellent. In fact the food on this holiday was one of the highlights. Truly, I give 10 out of 10 for the food, whether eating in the hotel, or in town. It was wonderful. On a Friendship Travel holiday, one is expected to be sociable, and I hope I fulfilled that. The other guests were lovely, kind, and a pleasure to be with. Unfortunately the men were heavily outnumbered by the ladies. Although this sounds great for a straight guy like me, it didn't quite work like that. If the numbers had been more equal, it would have created a better group dynamic, in my opinion. I went on a few excursions but they weren't that great to be honest. Although they were well-organised, they were just a bit dull. Always remember that these excursions will always be more expensive if booked via the rep. If you book them with a travel agent in town, they will be quite a lot cheaper, although if you choose to do that, the rep will not be a happy bunny! The highlight of the holiday was paragliding. However, I cannot really give Friendship Travel any credit for this, as it was an entirely separate and optional activity, which I paid 70 quid for. After I had done the paragliding, and come down from the emotional high, the holiday went downhill a bit, and petered-out. I went on a boat trip on the last full day, but it wasn't very exciting to be honest. On a Friendship Travel holiday, you will unquestionably meet friendly people, and have some good discussions, and eat together, but if you are an adrenalin junkie, it may not be exciting enough for you. Nonetheless Friendship Travel delivered what they said they would, so I cannot be too critical. It was a pleasant holiday, and I thank the holiday company, the hotel staff, and the other guests for their kindness. Thank you.

“Poor office staff”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/11/2013

Beware of booking a holiday with Friendship travel, I have been away with them before but not again, whilst the holiday itself was OK I find that dealing with office and booking staff to be a major headache that I strongly recommend against. Last year I booked with them but found documents and e-tickets etc that they claim were sent never seemed to arrive until I chased them up. This I thought I would try them again but when I have phoned them to book I have had excuses about locked computers and staff being at tea with promises to phone back, no calls have ever been received. I tried again after a break when a particular holiday fitted in with work commitments to book but got a quote back thet was over £700 more than the original. When queried I was told they had changed hotel but they had not bothered to include a note regarding the price hike although a week later the original hotel and price is still shown on the company’s website. All they would say is that al prices are shown as 'from'. A change from £2443.50 to £3232.50 is a mighty big from.

“great fun with like minded people”

★★★★★

written by barbaramc on 02/02/2012

I have been on 5 different holidays with Friendship Travel and enjoyed every one. I was very nervous about going on holiday on my own but I soon made friends and had a great time. Friendship Travel provide very good service and are very good at giving information about the holidays without pressure to buy. There are no single supplements and such a variety of destinations. I have booked another holiday to Turkey in September and I cant wait to go. I would certainly recommend this company.

“Friendship travel safari ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 27/01/2012

I went on safari with FT last year. The customer service was non existent. Clearly nobody from FT had done a recce - they couldn't answer anyone's basic queries before the holiday eg vaccines required, recommended clothing, mosquito protection or amount of money to take, and had a cavalier attitude to complaints afterwards. I'll never use them again.

I am going on a holiday alone this summer. I am thinking of going in September 2018. I am thinking about Mallorca with Friendship travel. There are a lot of positive reviews about Friendship travel from last year. But there are some horrible stories from people who went with FT in 2014. I am 45 years and female. I like good company of a mix of ladies and men. I would rather not be with a group where everyone else is over 60 years - not that I don't get on with older people. I like a lovely hotel, a nice holiday rep. and nice excursions. I would be grateful for your advice. Thank-you very much.
