“Waste of time and money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 183Fox on 07/08/2018

We went for Christmas Eve 2017 and it was not worth the time or money. The airplane was old and did not look great, with no entertainment. The site was quite far from the airport so the coach journey took some time. We arrived at a cold storeroom where we dressed into the warm clothing provided although we were expected to bring our own gloves. The place was not very magical and lacked atmosphere. The food was terrible and they had run out of warm drinks, whilst there was no were to sit. Poor value and as others have said the company to looking to make a quick profit. I have heard about other operators and the feedback was more positive, so take your hard earned money and spend elsewhere

“Transun daytime to Lapland”

★★★★☆

written by Donovanbo183 on 29/12/2016

Although my family thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Lapland day trip once we had got there I have to say the flight left a lot to be desired. We went on an old plane but it was comfortable so no real problem there but I have to say it was not Christmassy at all . We had the most miserable cabin crew in the history of the world . Even if they had played a Christmas cd over the tannoy anything would have made the 3 and a half hour flight more enjoyable. The only thing remotely Christmassy was the plane full of very excited children.

“Winter wonderland”

★★★★★

written by Eugenei424 on 19/12/2015

I booked my winter wonderland trip with transun then later read some bad reviews, so it was with great trepidation that we went on our trip on the 17th Dec 2015. Well I've got to say that it was totally amazing from start to finish ! The staff were so organised & helpful through out the day, the husky ride & the snowmobile were fabulous & Father Christmas was very entertaining, I'm left with the thought that some people wouldn't be happy no matter what was in front of them but for me & my party it's 10 out of 10 for transun & thank you for an brilliant day

“Ruined the Spirit of Christmas forever for our whole party”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Garnerfw309 on 02/02/2015

We must have been on the same trip but on a different coach as the last reviewer. We fully agree with what he said about the whole affair but would question the one star that he awarded it (I suppose it was for the location). I would go as far as to say that the health and safety of everyone was a big question mark from inadequate lighting to open braziers that children were told to warm hands over wearing dangly scarves and such. Not to mention the ill fitting supplied clothing and footwear or the questionable food on offer. Instead of a dream day out with the grandchildren it turned out to be a nightmare and ruined the spirit of Christmas forever for our whole party. If I could and as the temperature at the time I would award Transun a minus figure. If anyone is interested I am perusing compensation from this company as well as the agent Bath Travel.

“Poorly Organised”

★☆☆☆☆

written by StevenMcCabe467 on 22/12/2014

We have just visited Lapland via transun and I’m sorry to say it was disappointing, the location was stunning and there was plenty of snow but that in itself is a compliment to the area. So much time was lost due to the poor organisation that we ended up having just over 3 hours to get through everything, we did manage to get around it all but everything was rushed and a bit of a free for all as one member of staff struggled to keep control of the fifty plus people in his care. I think blind luck also played a major factor as we were one of the first coaches to arrive at the location quickly followed by five more so the staff were soon overwhelmed and quickly lost control of the situation. Once back on our coach to the airport there was a general feeling of disappointment from most on board many of who had not even had chance to see Santa and were rushed back to the coach. We were lucky and managed to participate in everything on offer, but my heart goes out to all the families whose experience fell short of what was promised. This trip wasn't cheap and the saying "you get what you pay for" didn't apply in this case.

Yes it was extremely poor.

We felt it was a complete rip off.

Reindeer being beaten with a stick to make it go forward

Mouldy and black shrivelled carrots

They ran out of bread, butter, even knives.

Completely disorganised.

Run by teenagers - no one in charge

Only one snowmobile which was broken - so why were we all, adults, told to take our driving licences ?

Rubbish trip - complete rip off of nearly £1500

“Transun Winter Wonderland day trip 13.12.14”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Purplefig0 on 20/12/2014

What an absolute disappointment, would not go again with Transun at all, it was not the magical trip we were expecting. There were lots of delays and lots of queuing or hanging around to wait to move to the next thing with our guide. The food choice was absymal for children and the restaurant was completely disorganised when we were eventually allowed in- no room to sit when it was the turn of our coach to go there. Lots of queuing for the activities meant very little time to enjoy them and there was only one tiny slope that one child could sled down at a time. No opportunity to do the snowmobiling either. The husky dog sled ride was the best bit of the day on the frozen river. Seeing Santa was also a disappointment as our group had been split up at the husky dogs and then this meant we saw different santa's. The elves were okay though they had an argument about which one was called Snowball as they both said they were Snowball and then Santa was not particularly great and smelt really bad so our youngest would not go near him. Apparently the rest of our party saw some great elves and a really good Santa and even had marshmallows by the fire whilst they were waiting to see him, whereas we were hugely disappointed. All in all the worst experience ever from start to finish and not worth the money. Did not deliver on any of its promises

“Transun Winter Wonderland”

★★★★★

written by on 24/12/2013

We booked this day trip before reading any of the reviews, and were a little worried we had made a mistake. I am glad to say that it was fantastic, and our seven year old son was totally convinced he was at the North Pole to visit Santa. The organisation was little underwhelming, but we had plenty of time to enjoy all the activities and our son especially enjoyed the tabogganing! He was absolutely awestruck on meeting Santa and totally covinced that this was the 'Real' one. We had a fabulous day and would recommend this trip to anyone with children who are on the edge of non-believing. It is very cold so make sure you have plenty of layers (thermal underwear is a must)and take spare hats and gloves in case you get wet playing in the snow. As long as you are warm and dry under the snow suits, nothing else matters, relax and go with the flow and make the most of playig in the snow and you really can't go wrong.

“5 Start BUT the lunch was awful!”

★★★★★

written by on 20/12/2013

Arrived back yesterday late evening having been on the "winter wonderland - day break". In a nutshell it was a fabulous experience and would recommend all to go on the trip. The search for Santa and various other activies were fantastic. The reps at the location and arrival airport were also excellent. Its a very long day but the time spent at the resort is quite adequate to go on all the activities. The weather is very cold so take 4 layers and you will be fine....I really dont know what people expect when you go to the Arctic Circle it wont be warm!! The only negative comment I would say would be down to the food which we all thought was abysmal. The experience is well worth the money and its a shame that the food (lunch) is really is poor. Cold chicken, soup (tomato sauce) and fries. Transun it was a fantastic experience and I would recommend anyone to go on this, I score the trip as a 5 out of 5 as there was no 4.5 as that would be a mark down for the lunch! Please pass onto your staff what an excellent job they do! Once in a lifetime experience....!

“enchanting but the extreme cold can spoil your fun”

written by mnjkgh on 09/12/2013

My daughter is scared stiff of father Christmas, but I decided to book a day trip as a day in memory history. Lapland was magical, winter wonderland. We travelled with Lapland Holidays, operator Transun Travel 8/12/2013. It was a well organised and seamless travel arrangement, no delays and friendly and helpful staff. In my opinion, you can do it all in a day, which was what was recommended to myself by a friend who has done both a three and one day trip. Good spot on advice. Lovely experience and value for money considering the length of time in the air, 7 hours in total. Plenty of time to do anything but do be aware of the Arctic weather, Minus 38 degrees is not funny and also not pleasant. In my opinion if I could have booked the weather to be minus 1 to minus 5 We would have had a better experience. This is not a criticism of the holiday just a basic fact about human nature and the elements of the weather, freezing is an understatement and a quote below from my seven year old. I am glad that I am not an elf because I don't like it here it is to cold and why does Santa live in such a cold place. We have returned safely had an experience, but I saw a lot of tears from shear frozen children in pain. Having skied I know how cold it can get but this was quite off the scale. I would recommend it but be prepared to feel extremely and painfully cold in your fingers, toes and face. But well done to the travel organisers as they did a great job.

I know a bit more about this company then most and I can say its a waste of te and money. The company care more about money then reviews. Everyone says this is a once in a life time experience, This is how they get away with it. They aren't dependent on returning guests like other travel companies. The staff have no drive because they are feeling the effects of an awful company. They pay a deposit which traps them in Finland so they can't quit. It's not the staff that make it a bad experience, it's the people pulling their strings.

I agree totally as Lapland is for the vast majority a once in a lifetime trip the company have the attitude of 'get the money and get them out'. The staff try hard with terrible conditions but there is only so much they can do with old outdated equipment not enough safety gear and ridiculously long hours. Transun won't pay for proper drivers so they have inexperienced activity leaders driving shuttles which according to some I talked to results in loads of accidents. The place is amazing, the excursions when they run as they should are amazing the organisation and safety record of Transun decidedly not!

We completely agree - the hellmets were just plonked on top of our wooly bobble hats = would not save your life it you needed it to.

Cruelty to reindeer

Atrocious food

Old and damaged wooden sleighs

No one to help elderly or young into and out of sleighs.

THEY REALLY JUST COULD NOT CARE LESS

“TRANSUN WINTER WONDERLAND ENONTHEKIO”

★★★★★

written by on 17/02/2013

I was very worried about booking with Transun after the dreadful reviews but found it absolutely fantastic but child orientated - not for a romantic day trip!! Father Christmas and his private visit was fab and his cabin was done out fantastically. We did our own thing so didnt follow the group and therefore didnt really queue at all. If youre up for top of the range food, aircraft etc you wont get it but my kids wernt interested in eating really - we had bought sweets. Go with an open mind please and you will enjoy every minute but go expecting frills and spills, you wont get it. Fantastic and thanks. Few tips for cold, wet gloves get hand warmers (little sachets cost about £3.00) although we were lucky cos the temp. was -9 so at -20 things may be different ....lots, lots of warm clothes, foot warmers etc..

I just returned from Enontekio last night having been on day trip with my husband, daughter and 2 grandchildren aged 6 and 7. I cannot fault a thing.Everything ran very smoothly and the whole experience was truly magical from checking in for flight to arriving back home.I travelled to Lapland 6 years ago with my older grandson having booked with Canterbury Travel. It too was magical but our Transun trip was every bit as good. I think that some people's expectations may be set too high, either that or they are just complainers who would be unhappy with whatever was dealt them.

“Lapland beautifull. Don't book Transun!!!!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Snowy.75 on 10/12/2012

We just returned from a day trip to Lapland to meet Santa and experience the magical winter wonderland advertised by Transun.. What a waste of money. We spent 15 hours travelling there from Norwich in total and were actually there in the snow for only 3 hours! The Transun rep was friendly but had no idea what was going on, we were herded from place to place queueing for a ride on a reindeer sleigh that just went round in a circle! It took longer to get in it than the ride lasted. The husky safari was a larger circle on a frozen lake for 4 minutes and whilst we waited for 25 mins to have our turn we were right near a chained up husky dog that was tangled in the chains and parents were constantly worried about their children going near it... I wanted to drive a snowmobile too and filled out an extensive disclaimer which made me think it was gonna be great! We were told that the children would accompany us in a sleigh pulled by snowmobile just ahead of us... But when we went to do it we were told we would have tolerate our children behind, on their own in the dark to wait forums to return!!! REALLY? we gave thata miss!! This is what happens when everything is run by students earning minimum wage over the Xmas period! No offence to them as they seemed to try but had no backup from Transum. The 'activities' consisted of amusing ourselves on a tiny mound of snow and a plastic sledge/tea tray with no rope to pull it and a lot of crashing in to other visitors, this was all unsupervised and I saw at least one child crying from crashing into others as the run actually crossed the path ;( Our trip to see Santa was ok, we were towed in a sleigh fashioned from cargo pallets with a duvet to sit on and Igor a thorough snow blasting at what felt like 80 mph, the helmets my 5 yr old son and I were given had no visors and I had to take my hat off to shield his eyes! Santa was quite good, the setting looked the part but his beard was false and we were expecting a genuine looking Santa, I could have found this guy in a department store!! Overall not a. Very magical experience for the amount of money it cost and Transun really seem to not really care as long as they get your cash!

“Lapland is definitely worth a trip. But do not use...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Espressoconnoiseur on 09/12/2012

Lapland is a wonderful place with local travel companies who have tens of years of experience how to arrange a fabulous Christmas trip for Brits. They have the local knowledge and they can make you feel special, and you will experience something which you will remember rest of your life - in a positive sense. On the other hand, TRANSUN is a British company wit notoriously bad reputation. At best, it can be described as expensive rip-off and they really know how to ruin your trip. Avoid them like plague. They do not use local facilities but use cheap Heath Robinson/DIY solutions; like they usually hire a Santa with thick London accent, and because they have to travel from UK to Lapland there is extremely limited amount of presents and Christmas decorations - like one cheap, worn poster and tape recorder playing British Christmas carols. Very soon you start to feel that you have been conned big time - which is actually what they do.

“no christmas magic”

★☆☆☆☆

written by lorrainereeley on 06/01/2012

Like other people writing a review we wished we had used Canterbury Travel. We booked the holiday as a once in a lifetime trip for our children the youngest being four. We were told by people who had been before that it would be magical, there would be carols on the plane, elves meeting you, the reps in Christmas outfits, magical activities etc but this did not happen. To meet Santa we were taken to a place with a log cabin with two rooms one with hot juice and one with craft activities, a bunch of papers to colour and a box of old crayons. We were told to wait around either doing craft or sleighing outside. There was one childs skydo which we had to queue for and only the four year old could go on. We were at this place for six and a half hours with no snacks available. It was an appauling way to be treated. The next group then went out for another 6 1/2hours and we had to wait for them to return and have the meal before the Christmas party could start. By 21.30 after being up since 6 our daughter had to go to bed so we never went to the party we had to tell her it had been cancelled as she was so looking forward to it. Everything on this holiday was done on a bear minimum at the expense of the magic. I would advise anyone planning to do this next year not to go with Transun they are more interesed in money than customer satisfaction.

“Transun Santa Safari”

★☆☆☆☆

written by dunn_marilyn on 23/12/2011

I booked a day trip to Lapland to take my four and a half year old grandson to see santa on what I thought would be a magic trip. This was not the case santa was a thin well spoken English man that would have looked out of place in an English departmental store. No Santa work shop, no Mrs Christmas and no furniture to speak of in Santa House. Very disapointing. Would not recommend Transun Santa Safari to anyone wanting a magical day.
