I paid £180 for these some 6 years ago to replace a long line of Sennheiser phones. Driven with a Pioneer A400 via a Arcam Alpha 5 plus sound is very neutral, with great bass extension and sounding very flat in the midrange responses. Classical works sound great with loads of detail and great soundstage. With modern music where sound drops towards the infasonic some very low rolloff is detectable. High frequency's are crisp without sibilance, never dull or overbright. Listening to Pink Floyds " Comfortably Numb" opening lines "Knock Knock Time to go" is like someone knocking on you headphones. To sum up a first rate headphone.

The Sennheiser HD 580 really are the best buy. I'm very glad with it.
When I got it, I couldn't stop listening.
Rotel preamp, cd67 maratz CD player
Also iriver ifp899 (best sound it seemed..?) but could be a little louder on the iriver.
I am used to Martin Logn Arius and Quad 405. Found the headphones comparable, I consider that a compliment voor the Sennheiser HD580.
