“Been on it for years and never found a swap”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Phillips381 on 14/11/2023

All you do is getting Matches for nothing you've asked for. Been on for many years never found a swap only people asking to swap for not what I wrote I wanted. Went on fb and found a swapin a few months and it's Free. Homeswapper are now asking you to pay for this service which is a waste of time. I've deleted my account

“Time wasters ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 126Bailey on 28/01/2023

The problem you have is either one person or a couple living in a three bed house who won't give it up unless they get a bungalow with acres of land stables a swimming pool on there own private island which is obviously never going to happen and they are only on homeswapper to please the council to make it look like they are actively looking to down size but in fact in reality they will never ever move!

“Absolutely terrible matches ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JaeMonsoon on 22/02/2022

HomeSwapper keeps on sending me messages about my matches that I ain’t interested in. I never get matches for the areas I’ve stated on my profile. It seems they are actually working against me than working with me. Also terrible customer service as they ain’t helpful at all. Someone is tampering with my HomeSwapper profile on there end which I don’t understand why. It’s very strange! I just would like to move to a area I will like to move to so I don’t have to use HomeSwapper ever again. I just can’t believe HomeSwapper antics

“Don't Waste Your Time”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rob2021 on 23/12/2021

HomeSwapper will send you plenty of emails encouraging you to log in when there's nothing waiting for you except their automated messages. The only conclusion I can draw from that is the site is essentially clickbait. They seem to generate most of their income from housing associations who are obligated to pay them a fee when their tenants want to advertise. WebsiteSeoChecker reveals that the figures HomeSwapper quotes in terms of members and site visits are pure fantasy and the site has a bounce rate of 41% which includes visitors from outside the UK who hit the front page at random. The Godaddy domain appraisal tool valued HomeSwapper at just $151 when I checked it. Unsurprisingly, HomeSwapper has very poor reviews everywhere and you'd be far better off placing your advert on one of the many free advertising websites online or in the local newspaper of your desired area.

“Technical problems ”

written by pinkfloyd99 on 28/04/2021

I have only been on homeswapper app for a few weeks but the website is absolutely flawed with blips cannot access my details not even sure if my account has been activated or not help assistance is very poor and unhelpful i can see that people stand a much better chance of a swap through social media like Facebook than this terrible homeswapper site maybe they need to employ somebody who knows how to set up a app that works well definitely not building my hopes up here seems like a total waste of time.

“Constant emails & no way of stopping them!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 129McMahon on 20/04/2021

They constantly bombard you with emails on a daily basis saying you have new matches, when there are not any! There is no "unsubscribe" link. They told me that if I do not want the emails, then I should delete my account! This is ridiculous. If you are getting these too, you can submit a formal complaint to "ICANN"

“dont waste your time”

★★☆☆☆

written by DeangeloBarrett181 on 23/01/2021

the problem with homeswapper is that everyone on it is punching up. Everyone on there naturally wants a better place to live so they are looking to swap for somthing better, otherwise whats the point in moving. It is only when a move is completely necessary a valid swap may become available. Multi swaps are a waste of time and the odds on you winning the lottery are probably slightly better. its not just the accomodation people are looking at its the area. "Hello would you like to swap for my 1 bed stinking hole in the ghetto next door to a deranged drug dealer with your much nicer place to live ....NO! thanks! Then to make matters worse some lucky people manage to get into new builds that are completely asbestos free and all shiny and new. Then after 12 months they have managed to turn them into a dirt hole. The site itself is easy enough to use its just very dissapointing and dissheartning for all that use it. apart from the people that are on there just to be nosey who are just timewasting idiots

“Waiting too long. Time wasters. Waste of time”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Priscilla85 on 31/05/2019

Want someone to swap with.... be prepared for a looooooong wait. Most people on it seem to just not want to move and most dont reply to the messages. It's awful. Unless your home is like freaking perfect with large garden etc etc... no one wants to know. I also think many people on it have no idea how to navigate and work the site.... lost count the amount of times I've had to tell someone what to do on it!!! Massive improvements needed all round.

I specifically wrote, I only needed an adapted Bungalow, in Wst End or Horton Heath, in Southampton,to be near my Grown up Children. Ive had a person from Glasgow in Scotland , ask me ,if I was interested in hers. And some one in Petersfield DONT BOTHER, I WILL PROBABLY BE DEAD, BEFORE A HOME COMES UP FOR ME.

“Useless, annoying, soul destroying.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/12/2017

Been on home swapper for around six years, everyone that takes a interest doesn't respond or wants more. Since they have updated the website/app it constantly logs you out and redirects you. Having more luck on social media websites than this. Avoid this site at all costs.

“Useless website”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 477Smith on 07/11/2017

Been on Homeswapper for 3-4 years now and still not been successful. Seems to be a lot of people on the site wanting to swap but when you get 100% matches 9/10 they are unresponsive and dont seem interested? Site needs to be more strict on how users are using the site and if they are time wasting or do not log in regularly and respond to messages they may as well come off the site. Lots of properties but most users dont seem to be serious about wanting to move and its not very helpful when you are serious about swapping. The multiswap is very difficult to understand and use to the point that I do not use it but would like to.

“So many flaws in this site”

★☆☆☆☆

written by evMoore392 on 26/06/2017

Been on homeswapper for a number of years. There are numerous flaws on this site, sends matches which are not even relevant to your settings. i.e. Your saved locations, the other parties locations they are wanting. Can't understand why I would get a match for someone whom is looking for Cornwall and I lived 100's miles away in Surrey. When I've brought this up to technical dept. You get a response that its user error and rudely claim not their problem but you! (Obviously homeswappers site that is generating and emailing matches is down to me? NOT). When searching is doesn't bring up the matches that u know are available, the list goes on and on. Seems they are quite happy to take money if your council don't pay and offer a inadequate service. Really surprised that local councils and HA haven't woken to this as yet. You have fair better chance of exchanging by creating your own flyer and posting door to door

“Sole destroying ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Katybaty on 21/06/2017

Terrible. Agreed a swap with another house. Both parties happy with swap. Sent exchange forms to housing associations Link and Glasgow housing who decided it wasn't a good swap. They've played God and broke two families dreams of being nearer their families. How can another person decide what is best for you. Will never use site again when housing associations intervene and stop swap

“Total Waste Of Time”

★☆☆☆☆

written by oldgaffer on 04/04/2017

Suffering from Osteo-arthritis and unable to walk, I need a specific type of property. Homeswapper duly register me as needing such, then go and match me with properties that have nothing at all that we need. Why homeswapper do you register our requirements and then ignore the FACTS? Eg: Need bungalow with wetromm in such and such areas. Homeswapper match me with two bedroom house, no facilities I require and in a specific area I have stated I dont want. I would not mind if it was a one off but they are consistent in their mismatching, about the only thing they are good at. They then tell me I am being difficult when I point out these anomilies. I was not rude, aggressive or in any way difficult, I just had a different opinion. The person I was speaking to hung up on me. I called back and was told I was unreasonable to her. When I asked in what way, it soon transpired that Homeswapper consider you are unreasonable if you you have a different point of view to these crack pots. Needless to say I am no longer a user of this site which cant even match you adequately. According to homeswapper we matched on rent and that was an 88% match. REALLY?

“Make them pay”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/03/2017

I think Homeswapper would be better if they made every one pay to look around their site, it would stop the time wasters in their tracks.I am sick and tried of people that say come and view but do not open the door when you get there. You can all most see them behind the curtains watching you and laughing it should stop. HOME SWAPPER PLEASE TAKE NOTE

Here's a good question for you. Why don't people respond to your requests? I have set up so many multiswaps where they read your messages (as evidenced by the Green tick and grayed out'seen') but don't bother to reply one way or another, it's just rude, a simple 'no thank you' would suffice but they can't even do that. This site is a total waste of time for serious swappers. It actually has made me quite ill with all the stress. It just doesn't work, unless you want to settle for something you don't really want, what's the point in that?

Thanks for answering this question.

I agree that its rude when a simple yes or no would be good manners but I don't think you can blame the site for the behaviour of its users, they have no control over it. However I do feel that since home swapper was changed from the old format it has become very hard to use and very glitchy. They have succeeded in making it far worse, not better, which is a shame. Some of the features also seem to be in Beta mode which means they don't all work for everyone. Its not easy to get an exchange. You need to be very pro active and be prepared for a lot of time wasters and people who just don't respond. It is what it is. My personal experience over the years having exchanged a few times has been to treat it the way that you would treat selling a home that you own. Make sure everything is clean, tidy and smelling nice, cut the grass, clean the windows, sell people a lifestyle, make your home more appealing than others. Remove personal clutter and ornaments, keep the decor very neutral and minimalist. You are competing with other people who want the same kind of home that you do and many social housing tenants dont have the time or resources to take on a property that is going to cost thousands to do up. When people come to view, see if someone can take the pets and the kids to the park for an hour, people are there to look at the house not meet the family or be slobbered over or barked at. I have seen listings with unmade beds, sinks full of washing up, wallpaper hanging off the walls and bright pink ceilings in every room.

Because they are time wasters. They like the idea of home swapping but when it comes down to it they arent really that interested. I was on homeswappers for many years and never even came close to a swap for this reason. I gave up in the end.
Asked by Pavil67 on 17th July 2014 Report this content
Is there an alternative to Homeswapper? I've been actively searching for over a year, and only about 20% of people bother to respond, other's say that they're "definitely interested" then just don't turn up for viewings.

Homeswapper seems to be the site that most landlords are using and as far as I know it is the biggest. I found a swap though homeswapper, it took a year. I think from my experience people are scared to give up their homes as there are many people trying to offload problem homes, bad neighbours etc. There are many really fussy people who refuse to give up their home unless it is better or the same as what they have already. I was the same at first. had a 3 bed semi and I wanted a semi in return. That attitude got me nowhere, so I settled for a four in a block type property, so I lost out, but I got a swap. It depends how bad you want to move.
