Update Of My Previous Score
See my comment added to my last review. I will be avoiding all Haier products until they can improve quality control consistently for a few years, maybe they have done that now but my experience was poor over all, (though it was at least better than the previous Zanussi which was disgutingly poor due to failing at three year with a dud control unit- beyond economic repair, following other more minor issues). Now I have taken advice from various well informed people and bought a Miele, bottom of their range for £670 but still a far more durable product according to the people that actually repair washing machines- e.g. have a look on UK Whitegoods or Whitegoodshelp websites.

The Haier Hwc1460 Tve Does What It Says On The Tin
The Haier HWC1460 TVE does what it says on the tin: for the money it is a good buy and if it lasts two years it will have done better than the Zanussi that preceded it (which had a terminal electronic fault at three years plus a few other problems on the way). If you do not have a lot of cash to spend you can do a lot worse. With some minor improvements (e.g. a quick and easy cycle cancel and spending a tiny bit of money on better instructions instead of ones in poor English with vital bits missing) there is no reason why this manufacturer should not do well with future models if they continue to keep the price down. I will let you all know if we have any problems as time goes on.
Niggle here again 5.5 years later and I have to say that review looks quite naive reading it back now, as only a month or three later the machine developed a major fault, banging loudly during use and I correctly diagnosed a worn main bearing, caused by the seal being installed back-to-front (bearing was full of rust). I repaired it myself due to being out of warranty and it was a bit difficult due to the seal being a non standard size which was about £30 from Haier- I substituted a 1mm smaller one and packed it with 0.5mm feeler guage pieces and silicon sealant plus a good SKF bearing, total cost about £20.
Off we went for about 4 years without further issue apart from periodically smelling awful- but that was not really the machine's fault as eventually we realised it was due to too many low temp washes without a maintenance boil wash- once we started doing that, and using powder oxygen bleach at at times, the problem was mainly resolved apart from the black mould staining in the door seal but that did not get any worse.
Then one day mid summer 2012 it went 'Kerr-bang' mid spin and the carnage inside was terminal due to the inner drum splitting and contacting the outer at speed, one of my favourite surf tops was amongst the victims and I did not bother with an autopsy, I just took the machine to the tip and went to the other end of the price spectrum and bought a nice shiny new Miele, with a five year gaurantee and a rep for lasting twenty years (I hope it does as it was £670!).
