The agents changed their contact details over time to new email addresses. I was caught up in this until I came in contact with getback.rest and I was assisted through getting back my money.

Went as smoothly as can be expected under the circumstances, creditors were a pain but Abacus took care of them, Money saved to pay the court fees transferred back to the nominated account within 24hours of requesting it. Court staff very helpful and showed compassion as going Bankrupt not a really good feeling as I found out, from start to finish on just turning up at court it was over within 2 hours. The judge was "NON" judgemental and it was a very informal occasion. Glad its all over now, so in 12 months life back to normal

I was passed on to Abacus by Two Legal Services so that they could manage our DMP. I was with the for little more than a month, during such time I was never allocated a customer services advisor who I could discuss our debt with. They have since passed us on AGAIN to PDHL and I have had enough of being passed from pillar to post and cancelled my contract with all 3 companies outright and am now dealing with a debt management charity who takes no fees at all! If I had known before I signed the contract that this would happen I would never have signed it in the first place and I would have looked elsewhere. I URGE those of you reading this to do the same. I read the negative reviews on here myself ad stupidly thought it won't happen to me and low and behold it did!!

After a very long period of desperation in trying to sort out my finances and an attempt at an IVA with another company - who just didn't care to advise me, I rang Clear Debt - the advisor was a pleasure to speak with and I felt more assured than I had done for months that gong Bankrupt was probably the answer for me. Being an honourable person I did not feel entirely happy about it. However, I did not have the funds to do anything else. But having discussed my situation thoroughly with them, I realised that Bankruptcy would sort my debts out and I could maybe breathe a sigh of relief once it was over. Abacus held my hand through it all. It is over and I really cannot believe the feeling I have after months and months of sleepless nights and of torment. I really feel alive again now and I have one year ahead of me that will finish with it forever. I can now start afresh and put my mind to other things and get my life back on track. Absolutely true that don't bothered with Abacus/Brooks/Harrington. They only for you money. I been with Abacus over the 2 years. Monthly payment of £100 . Few weeks ago received phone call from Brooks/Harrington that Abacus passed over my account too them. Offering go too IVA Finally received balance of dept. Got a shock. My dept exactly same as 2 1/2 year Because Abacus not in position to stop any charges and interest rates. They will tell you completely different in beginning. Nice pure delight people till gets amounts of money then pass details to Brooks/Harrington . People don't go with Abacus believe me. After paying £3000 and I'm still chased by creditors. I'm on citizen bureau for legal advice because I paid Abacus more than enough money to take my dept little down. But

We have had a DMP with Abacus for around 4 years and mostly happy with the service, paying an agreed sum of £50 in fees per month. Yesterday we received 2 letters, one from Abacus one from Harrington Brooks. Without consultation Abacus have handed our account to HB along with all our personal details. HB letter leads you to believe that monthly payments are the same but careful reading and calculation revealed that our monthly fee has doubled to £100pm. The forecast on the client portal for account estimates that HB will take over £13000 in fees!! They point blank refused to honour the £50 fee agreed with Abacus. Abacus were adamant the fee should be the same. They asked me to give them until this morning to sort out the matter but they have not. Somewhere along the line this is a way to increase their income. Our privacy has been violated and proves these companies are just there to prey on the unfortunate. I have cancelled my DMP which I will now manage myself and pay off my creditors considerably quicker. DIY or use a fee free company such as Pay Plan.

Phone me at least 3 times a day, everyday.. Told them various times I don't need their help. Phone me on different numbers so can't even block them. Avoid this company.

I recieved 3 phone calls in one day from this company, the third i finally answered, He said is that **** ***** so i replied yes, He said i'm calling from abacus and the reason for my call is to discuss writing off 70% of your debt. I replied i don't have any debt thanks, so he replied so why have you applied for a loan recently to consolidate i debts, i then replied i'm not interested thank you, he said so you would rather get a loan to pay your debts rather than have them written off. I asked him what my personal finances had to do with him and to remove my number from the system as i wasnt interested to which he put the phone down !

I was really worried about speaking to anyone about my problems before joining Abacus. They treated me like I really mattered not just anybody. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone please don't be embarrassed. My advisor helped me through the hard times - she was caring and patient.

Thank you to all the team at Abacus. I have dealt with various people over the last few years but whoever I spoke to had all my details to hand and were very helpful whenever I phoned. They started by sorting out my finances, and wrote to my creditors for me and arranged payments that I could afford. I was getting hassled by the creditors with letters and phone calls(mobile and land line). sometimes every four hours but Abacus sorted that for me by sending letters to them and the calls stopped. At the start of 2012 I was contacted by a member of the bankruptcy team who advised me to go bankrupt as, being a senior citizen there was no chance of me paying my debts off. as you can imagine I was rather apprehensive, but after going into it fully with the team, I agreed. They immediately wrote to my creditors and informed them that I was declaring myself bankrupt. My case was then taken over by Mike Morgan and Heidi who guided me through every step,Heidi filled in the forms for me and my husband (who was joint debtor on one of my loans)and we presented the forms to our local county court judge in January 2013. It took him approx. five minutes to declare us bankrupt,and it is a great relief. I would certainly recommend anyone to do this if advised to do so by abacus.

I suggest you look into the options for free help at the same time as looking at the services offered by Debt Management Companies: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/ManagingDebt/PlanYourWayOutOfDebt/DG_187500 I preferred to use a debt management company to manage my creditors but remember they usually charge a fee- 25% of the total monthly payment in my case. This is money that does not go to your creditors so be careful that you don't end up with a company who simply charges you a large fee for processing payments to your creditors. Abacus Finance were supportive and proactive from the start. They carefully established the size and nature of my debts, agreed the suspension of interest with my creditors and then calculated my ability to pay after asking basic questions about income and expenditure. Abacus Finance clearly explained the options that were open to me after taking other matters into consideration such as any wealth in property, cars etc and only then suggested the most appropriate way for me to deal with my debt. Ababcus Finance were supportive and keen to agree an outcome in my best interests. Abacus Finance dealt with the creditors on my behalf which simplified and took much of the stress out of the process. As a result of their guidance and negotiation skills I was able to settle all my debts at a more than 50% discount, saving thousands of pounds in repayments. Abacus Finance obtained a good outcome. I'm now debt free with a repaired credit rating.
