Convair Magicool Compact Firstly this is an evaporative cooler not an air conditioner so it will only work in a dry climate. That said it works well, is quiet and easy to move around to where you need the cool air. The three fan speeds give enough control although the water flow rate controller takes a little bit of practice to achieve the best setting for the airflow. After four years of operation the rubber drive belt was getting loose and making a squeaking noise, very annoying. No problem. All it took was a phone call to Convair to check the part number and a trip to the service agent to pick up a replacement belt. I took the opportunity to give the unit a thorough clean and was surprised how easy it was to unclip the packing, wash it out and put it back together again. Not surprisingly there was a fair bit of gunk in there after four years which must have been blocking the flow of air and water. The plastic bag for the replacement belt has installation pictures so removing the old belt and fitting the new one was a doddle. After it went back together it sounded and performed as if it was brand new. Moral of the story - the unit does need looking after but it's easy to do. Definitely clean it out after a summer's use. Highly recommended for the right climate.

The Corvair magicool is a good COOLER but is NOT an air conditioner. It is an evaporative cooler and although it works well it is expensive compared to competitors

Pity spare parts are difficult to find for this Convair Magicool, and can be expensive from some quaters
