“Gok's Fashion Fix is really entertaining and makes...”

★★★★☆

written by Gloria Moore on 27/07/2008

Gok's Fashion Fix is really entertaining and makes fashion look so easy. I love his personality and the fact that his models do not need to be size 0. However, he seems to concentrate on the young. I would love to see a programme on women like me. I am a 61 year old Grandmother and a size 16 to 18 but I still like to look nice. Not mutton dressed as lamb but at the same time I do not want to look like my mother-in-law who is in her nineties. Most shops don't seem to cater for women like me, unless you pay a fortune and on a pension this is not possible.

Irate Traveller's Response to Gloria Moore's Review

I found this review very helpful because...Like you, I am a size 16, sometimes even an 18 or 20 (dependent upon the fabric, the stretch in it, the cut of it, and the way it fastens as I'm disabled). I'm a year or so younger than you are - almost 60. 5'0 short - with very short arms, and tiny hands. EVERY item of clothing I buy has some part of it which is either too long, or ill-fitting!! Nightmare.
I have never gone into a shop, used a changing room to try on clothing, and come home with it. I buy online (J D Williams/ Viva La Diva/Home Shopping Direct chain)try on after a shower, and send BACK, change SIZE up or down!? that is a rare occassion worthy of a good, stiff drink these days, but it has been known to happen since I found GOK WAN, and his amazing technicolour rainbow of programmes.
Fashion Fix is back on the tv. Saw it tonight actually (15th) He was in Nottingham I think. 3 ladies from a race-course.
How to look good naked. Watched the programme, bought the book and the video, gave them to a charity shop when they had worked their *magic* on me.
You just have to SHARE something that good with the world, don't you?
So, I've been GOKKED.
Wearing more and buying LESS.
Gave loads and loads to charity, after a really good look in the Gok mirror.
Am an "apple" (part of the disablement is a bowel prolapse after cancer and a car crash which took my 15 year old son, and killed two others, left me in pieces/ruined physically and psychologically) my *POD* I call it.
I look permanently pregnant.
But now, I don't FEEL frumpy; don't feel that self-conscious in public.
Why?
Gok Wan convinced me, along with half the females in Britain I guess, that I'm great the way I am - just have to be confident, feel sexier without vamping it up; and get fitter and healthier as far as my disablement will allow me to. (That has been difficult, as the local authority forbid me to use the swimming lessons in their pool; I cannot get a gym to take me as a customer; and I'm prevented from cycling, dancing or having penetrative sex by a Specialist at the hospital) oooer.
I just bought the following to show my self-confidence off!
(i) A white blouse (Gok says a shirt) in Victorian style, with leg 'o mutton sleeves from TESCO F&F range - I needed to exchange for a larger size as it is very tight fitting. Bought a 16, ended up in a 20 but oh, it is outrageously "refined", and makes me feel like a School Marm!
(ii) A long black and white mock-~Erskine tartan~ skirt, from Gothic site, Drac-in-a-box. Made to measure for me, by their seamstress. Wonderful item, wear it with the blouse above and a black pvc extra wide belt - little black lace Gothic boots from Drac'; or a dark RED sweater, with/without the belt; and black leather Viva La Diva boots, knee high;
(iii) A pair of sumptuous suede FUSCHIA PINK, Doc Martens!!!! with fur lining - with the ubiquitous soles for walking on uneven surfaces, oil and grease, water repellent (not waterproof) ready for POLAND IN APRIL, LONDON IN JUNE, and NEW YORK/NIAGRA FALLS either later this year, or April next.
Thanks to Gok Wan, I'm a real woman again.
I have "jugs" a "rack" "puppies" "bad boys" - 38DD's, and wear long bras which fasten down the front instead of at the back. Easier by far!
I wear SLOGGI maxi pants, rather than silly lacey jobs, which roll down, and end up ~wedging~ between my buttocks. Much more comfortable and no VPL.
or ridges.
I wear plain socks, and sensible boots - even the lace ones have tiny heels and are so comfortable, you would never know you had them on your feet after a night in a Fet Club!
(oh, yes, Gran goes to Fet Clubs again)
Confidence, strength, hope and general self-love in the right way, all come from watching a man who is claimed to be gay, telling women much bigger than me, with more cellulite and less confidence than I had, how great they are.....made me cry, sit up, take notice, and love him whatever he is!

"g ng h i faat chōi GOK" !!
