This Snap-On WV1745 Mechanic ' s 4 1/2" Jaw Vise is a "bullet" type vice (American style) with the rear screw housing resembling a bullet round. The vice is branded and sold by Snap-On, but, is actually a Wilton vice made for them. Made in the USA, the vice follows the Machinist's vice pattern (60,000 psi - SG iron), also made by Wilton and are part of their "flag-ship" range. However, this vice only follows the design aspects of Wilton's Machinist's vice and, I suspect, are not as strong, utilising a, weaker, lower density iron than their cousins, but still; incredibly strong.
Having said all that; this vice is superb! In ease of use, accuracy, strength of design and good looks (from an engineer's point of view). This vice represents good value for money for a tool that will likely be used everyday. Not really for the DIY / occasional user (unless you prefer great tools).
As a side note: I find that taking pride in my tools allows me to take pride in my work - a genuine benefit I can pass onto the client - this tool gives me that.
