“Kitchen doors swelling at joints.”

★★☆☆☆

written by Bryson28 on 01/02/2024

This kitchen is less than a year old and is swelling as not resistant to normal kitchen moisture! It started with the clad on panels beside the extractor hood on lower edges which swell and retract slightly during cooking even though the extractor is always on when cooking and takes the steam outside not recirculating. Now the doors are swelling at the joints too! They sent out someone to check and he took moisture level reading and it is low but says that they won't replace them! So they are really saying that it won't stand up to normal kitchen use! Sold under false pretences! Unfit for normal kitchen use!

I also have the same problem with my units they sent someone round and have said it's probably due to moisture ingress.i bought mine in September 2022 so mine is only 15 months old.
I have thought about the ombudsman however the reviews are awful with many saying they are funded by the retailers.
The only thing I can think of is the small claims.
The kitchen I bought was a classic shaker and I have a wall fan extractor and oven hood extractor I'm so frustrated

“Delighted with kitchen! ”

★★★★★

written by on 27/06/2023

Just had my country living kitchen from Homebase fitted over the past 2 weeks. I'm absolutely delighted with it. The quality of the cupboards is excellent and apart from the wrong size cooker hood being delivered (this was rectified at no extra cost in 2 days) everything went to plan. From the very start in January when we got the virtual plans made up in store in Dumfries the whole process was stress free and everything went to plan. Homebase recommended my joiner who was excellent and went over and above to make sure I got my dream kitchen. Would highly recommend Homebase in particular the country living range.

“Kitchen fine, customer service poor”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 03/05/2023

In store design element seemed to be fine. Went for country living so slightly more pricey. Kitchen installation began and fitter realised there were too many plinths (2 too many) and not enough cornice. Homebase agreed to send out more cornice because they come in shorter lengths than the designer thought so it was their fault. Said no refund could be given on the plinths. Was told the cornice coming today... I called this morning to confirm, they confirmed. Family member waited for delivery from 11:15 to 15:00 when I received a voice mail saying cornice would be arriving tomorrow. No further explanation. Had to re arrange work to be in the house tomorrow for delivery. The customer service is poor...as is the design service. I'm left with 2 x 3.6m plinths that I have paid for but have no need for. Wish I'd gone to Wren

“homebase/country living kitchen”

★★☆☆☆

written by vinnyarcher on 02/02/2022

at first designer at homebase was very helpful in designing our kitchen, we chose the country living kitchen with cabinets made up and delivered. all the units were delivered but on installing found one panel was a different colour and two lengths of pelmet were delivered and no cornice . Upon complaining I was at first told nothing could be done as was outside 14 day return policy . I argued and in the end the missing items were delivered. Unfortunately although the cupboards and appliances fitted perfectly the cornices and pelmet do not fit with the design of the kitchen and so were not used. on trying to return and get a refund was told this is a special order and cannot be refunded despite all the lengths being the same . I am now left with 4 lengths of cornice and pelmet that i paid for but cant use Feel a lot more could be done to help the customer and anyone purchasing made up units be careful that cornices and pelmets are the right sizes for the kitchen because if there not you wont get refunded

“Would rather be set on fire than get a kitchen from...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mackenzier392 on 15/07/2021

I would rather repeatedly have Mike Tyson punch me in the crotch than deal with the kitchen designer and the rest of the team here again. To say the process was painful would be a huge understatement. From the off it was like trying to deal with a confused child with a set of crayons. Once we got the kitchen designed after a number of failed online consultations that was where the real hell began! Upon delivery of said kitchen it was very exciting to try and work out just how many integral parts of the kitchen were actually missing. The sink which we were told would look fantastic didnt fit with the dishwasher. The tap again was too big and leaked. We had an oven with no power cable, a broken extractor, two missing handles, one extra counter top, two missing cupboards and half of the design did not fit. Trying to call the designer proved totally pointless. Either she has decided phones are no longer the future or she feels once a kitchen delivered that is her job done! When we eventually did reach her all replies were unhelpful, unspecific and vague. We then were made to guess when things would or would not turn up which becomes incredibly expensive when paying a builder to be there to build a kitchen with parts he does not have. Having complained numerous times our kitchen was finally completed a casual three weeks after it should have been thanks to the total and utter incompetence of the Homebase kitchen team and the delivery company. They managed to make Baldrick look like an ideal liaison for this whole project! Whilst I have never been to war, nor been set on fire, I do imagine both of those ordeals would be far more relaxing and beneficial than buying a kitchen through Homebase. I would suggest cooking meals with a lighter and an old paint pot instead of getting a kitchen here!!

“Homebase fitted kitchen - Hastings premium...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Amaa on 17/02/2021

Unfortunately my overall experience with purchasing a kitchen from Homebase has not been a good one and with hindsight I would have gone somewhere else. Pros - The original person I spoke to was very responsive and provided on the face of it a good service. The plan and measurements were good. - The kitchen units are very good quality Cons - they furloughed the designer I was dealing with mid way through my order being processed, didn’t tell me and ignored my emails to him via an info@ address. Eventually got through to the branch by phone and then had to deal with an utterly inept and overly defensive manager. - unfair terms and conditions which are even more unfair in light of the current pandemic. Don’t expect HB to win a CSR for flexibility during Covid-19 award any time soon! My advice is do not agree to or sign their conditions unless you have plenty of space to unpack and can check and store all the units (and appliances, accessories etc) safely until a fitter can start work. The conditions state you shouldn’t book a contractor to fit the kitchen until you have received all the units and have checked all are correct and not damaged. This is of course to protect Homebase and puts the customer at a disadvantage. Unless you’re lucky and can book a fitter at short notice or have the space to store large bulky units and appliances for likely a few weeks, can unpack heavy/large packages yourself, can move everything inside your house on your own or with other household members, forget it - the delivery guys won’t bring anything inside for you because of Covid and Homebase just want to prevent claims for extra costs due to fitting delays if they don’t do something right. - conversely to the above, if you don’t receive everything or receive damaged items they impose a term that in order for them to resolve this for you, you have to notify them within 7 days. As most people will need a fitter to help unpack these large bulky items and many issues will not come to light until units etc are actually being fitted, this also puts the customer at a complete disadvantage. This term also flies in the face of the Consumer Rights Act which states 30 days. - Homebase took 3 times as long to arrange delivery of appliances than other suppliers e.g. AO - there was a delay with one of my appliances and a delivery was arranged for it to arrive 10 days after the units were delivered further inhibiting me being able to book a fitter. - if something goes wrong they’re inept, unconcerned and like to quote their Ts and Cs at you as though it’s your fault. - no installation instructions arrive with the units to help the fitter. Requests for these go unanswered. Update: received this response from the unit supplier Country Living kitchens on having some sort of fitting guide/instructions: “ Unfortunately we don't offer any fitting instructions as Homebase recommend accredited installers to fit the kitchens” I’ve now asked Country Living Kitchens and Homebase what accreditation/s they recommend customers make sure their installers have, because as far as professionals have advised me, a kitchen installers accreditation appears to be something they’ve just made up... and has not been mentioned or highlighted in the purchasing process before now... Looking on their website HB offer a fitting service and they’ve partnered with an installation company but they very clearly do not recommend it over you hiring any fitter you like or even doing it yourself. Partnering with an organisation and offering a fitting service via a partner as an option is not accreditation! Country Living Kitchens customer service and support is therefore as non existent as that of HB - side panels are too long - and a different colour to the cabinet doors as were the cornices and pelmets. - cabinet door are too small for the carcasses Overall not worth it, buy elsewhere.

Written on: 20/02/2021

Update on the above:

- a day after getting in touch with Homebase about getting some sort of fitting instructions after having no joy from Country Living Kitchens, HB sent me an email giving some helpful tips and a PDF of the Country Living Kitchens installation instructions - the instructions CLK had told me the day before didn’t exist... my fitter had solved some of the issues himself in that time but the delay has caused issues. My fitters do work on a regular basis for Howdens and Wren customers and are very experienced, but even with the instructions there are so many issues because the doors are too small for the cabinets inc the integrated dishwasher door which inhibits the DW door from opening fully. I have to say the premium kitchen range I thought I was getting has been a nightmare from start to finish.

“Wrong side panels ”

★★★☆☆

written by DavinFoley on 16/02/2021

Bought an artisan kitchen. Side panels delivered were all too short. Kitchen fitter had to saw down lower pelmets. I pointed this problem out to them”designer” who said it was standard practice but discovered later the side panels were the wrong ones. Hence we now have a problem with under cover lighting. Additionally Indesit fridge not working and had to be returned to manufacturer following lengthy interaction.

“Homebase expensive & inflexible”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CheatedAtBiggleswade on 22/12/2020

IKEA & B&Q offer exchanges of parts. If you accept delivery after signing a contract with Homebase you cannot change any components. Homebase have had financial problems & aim to maximise their profits with some excessive prices; £61.5 for a wine rack, £31 for a plinth that IKEA supply for £7. Not for the do-it-yourself!

“-100 stars”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KEPPT on 17/07/2020

-100 stars! Please please please guys, don’t EVER buy a kitchen from these incompetent asshats. You will seriously regret it!!!! I should make it clear that this all started long before the Covid crisis. 8 months down the line still haven’t got a complete kitchen (they designed it wrong) and they are refusing to give us our remaining items they have kept delivering smashed (over 6 times) or compensation (we have been assured of several times.) They have taken all our money and not given us the final product!!!!!!!!!!  They have left us without basic facilities during lockdown and have no clue about customer care or how to run a business. The shop manager is a pathological liar, the area managers are unhelpful (but also embarrassed of the company and their behaviour), the escalations team are useless and the CEO + his team are rubbish. See you in court.

“Never buy a kitchen from Homebase ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Paulpeckham on 20/06/2020

Ordered a new kitchen in November, it is now June! We still do not have a full kitchen as every single attempted delivery has been damaged (All six of them). The kitchen was wrongly designed by Homebase, when I pointed this out to them they accused us of being wrong then realised their mistake and tried to charge us to get a redesigned kitchen we would be happy with. Rather than paying them anymore money we accepted a new kitchen design we were really unhappy with but as half of kitchen was already installed we thought this was the best out of the bad options we had as we were about to get locked down with no kitchen facilities. At the time we didn’t realise the hell we would be left with as we had no sink or kitchen storage as the corona crisis started, so we were forced to clean kitchen utensils in the bathroom and couldn’t bulk buy in a time when grocery shopping was near on impossible. Added to that they will only deliver during business hours so the wages we have lost add up to more than the kitchen cost. We are now left trying to get compensation and our remaining items, their escalations department is not accepting emails, the store manager at Penge store is incompetent and CEO’s response email promises results each time but you get nowhere.

Good choice!
They still owe us items to finish the kitchen, we spoke to Penge store, she said they don’t have record of what is owed and she has been on holiday, as a business owner I would of made sure my holiday cover was up to date with my duties to clients. I sent email to CEO’s response email and the forwarded me a letter basically saying we’re not getting our kitchen finished and there not giving us compensation. We are starting the process of taking them to small claims court for a full refund and compensation for loss of earnings. The company is useless they lie about everything to cover the fact that no one can do there jobs.

“Please do not buy a kitchen from Homebase!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 1982Griffin-Alt on 16/06/2020

I have experience with purchasing many Kitchens as I renovate property. However due to an offer I decided to try Homebase for the first time. This was for my own property so wanted quality. The initial design seemed fine. Whilst awaiting delivery I saw extensive issues with a friends kitchen which I discovered was from Homebase. As a result I booked another appointment with team to check through everything so that I did not have the same experience she was having. At the second appointment the staff member confirmed that the initial designer had not correctly designed and certain items such as cupboards and a pull out shelf needed changing as would not work. Although unhappy I was relieved I’d checked and assumed the order would therefore be simple. How wrong was I... items were incorrect. The kitchen fitters could not understand the ‘plans’. I was advised that all kitchen fitters would understand their plan. 6 separate fitters shrugged their shoulders and said it didn’t make sense. The plan itself was again incorrect. Doors wouldn’t open due to handles, wrong sizes of items supplied, items damaged, and actual plan of carcasses were wrong. I ordered in January 2020. It was delivered in March 2020. 6 emails I have had to send for replacement items.... and it’s currently June and I’m still awaiting end panels. I have since spoken to 2 other people who have purchased a Homebase kitchen. All of whom have had extensive issues. I will never purchase from Homebase again and would strong recommend if you are reading this you don’t. I am yet to find anyone have a smooth experience. I wish I had read reviews before purchase

“Dreadful Planning and Organising.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JavionHickey137 on 25/03/2020

Wanted a kitchen upgrade. Along with the all the important compatible electrical upgrade required, we asked Homebase for a kitchen plan so that the electrics could be designed around the kitchen. for love nor money, this could not be done!!!! I had a 3d plan without measurements which the electrician could not understand.requested a plan again. no chance. Managements orders. The kitchen had to planned by a professional kitchen planner whose main objective was to sell you as much stuff as they could. I managed to filter through the bull and get what I wanted.could not get that plan so had to talk the electrician through where everything was going to be before fitting. causing delays. Quality of units ok. Some fittings over elaborate by deign but generally ok. I strongly recommend not to have the kitchen planned by Homebase and train their management team to realise how kitchens are suppose to designed- around the electrics.

So as long as you dont clean the kithen floor or make yourself a cup of tea you are fine. Still waiting for responce from homebase. Stay well clear!

“DO NOT BUY THE KITCHEN FROM HOMEBASE ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hamiltonmu232 on 19/12/2018

As soon as you paid, nearly 9 weeks on, still have yet received any bit of kitchen. Have been told it should be less than 4 weeks, we had to chase them every day. I should have read the previous bad experience review before purchased the kitchen with Homebase. Trust me, buy it from someone else, they are not the best. It will make your life miserable trying to chase the kitchen to be delivered. Still don’t know when or would it all be here or what quality is like but just want to warn others. Don’t buy the kitchen from Homebase!!!

I do not appear to have the same Solaris 100 ceramic sink as I saw in the show room and then ordered. Nor is it the same as pictured on the web when you search for it. I am very disappointed that the sink I have has two pre-cut holes for the monobloc antique tap and one has to cap the one not required with a huge ceramic disc. The one in the showroom has a weakened ceramic layer for self puncture for your tap spot, because I spoke to the sales assistant at time of selection.  Homebase don't want to help because I didn't raise matter for several months as my kitchen has been a nightmare to gather and get a fitter. When the fitter lifted it from box, it's underside was broken on a corner pre the packaging and delivery. The paper work for sink and tap part of delivery reads Interior Solutions. Who are they and how can I complain about the unsatisfactory goods that I want exchanging? It's been fitted two weeks back and this ceramic unneeded hole is unsightly and prevents any dish drainer from sitting on drainboard side! Any options gratefully received.

have you spoken to the person who designed your kitchen? ask them why the difference - have you been back to the display? if it is different take a picture and take one of yours. the designer should know exactly who to contact but if you get fobbed off go to the store manager with the pictures and of course all your receipts. if no joy ask for the regional manager and let him take it from there. But please remain polite and calm - getting worked up or shouting will get you nowhere with them - they were all fantastic with me when we had hiccoughs that started with damaged cabinets and they could not do enough for us. hope you get sorted - please let us know how you get on.
