“Don't ever use Thomas Cook Traveller cheques.”

written by jimmmmmmm on 18/04/2015

I bought Thomas Cook travel checks around 10 years ago for use in emergency. I no longer need them ButI can't find an overseas bank that will take them,If I cash them in in the UK I have to accept Thomas Cook exchange rates which are terrible. I think this is Disgusting. Jim Milne.

“Warning Do NOT Buy! Impossible to cash/use!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 25/06/2014

These Thomas Cook MasterCard travelers cheques are impossible to cash. Travelex refused to cash them, several banks refused to cash them "we don';t accept these ones, only American express" and definitely no hotels or retailers would accept them. There is no help line to call and no information on the website on where to cash. They basically take your money and will not refund. Do not buy these cheques, it's as good as throwing your money down the drain!

Robbed first night we arrived thomas cook refused to honour the insurance slip ,firstly citeing I had sworn at the rep in theU.K. office then using the feeble excuse in the DOT hearing that as I was a market trader they thought I may have lost them in a casino ,I wouldn't have them for free,it took the DOT and a 2 year slog to get reimbursed, they aren't worth the paper they are written on .

I faced the same dilemma, having found no bank or trvelex agent that would cash my Thomas Cooke's cheques. Please advice as to where and how I can make a transaction , by printing a global list of bank/agencies.

“I sugest you think very carefully about buying...”

written by on 08/09/2010

I sugest you think very carefully about buying travellers cheques from Thomas Cook branches or elsewhere. Ours are in sterling.
You may believe that there are no expiry dates on travellers cheques having purchased some. This is not the case. Our cheques were refused for a refund at the Thomas Cook branch from which they were purchased, being 'the old type'and also could not be used to purchase euro. This is despite a sign on the counter window which says that they do take back travellers cheques.
We took them to the branch along with our passports and were told to pay them into our bank. The teller was pleasnat but firm on this. Our bank won't handle them either.
We would like to know where we go from here

“I have 350 euros in Thomas Cook travellers cheques....”

I have 350 euros in Thomas Cook travellers cheques. Went to the local office to cash them for euros. They offered me 285 euros!!! They say on the wallet "we'll buy back any left over travellers cheques commission free". How can they get away with that?

“I purchased travellers cheques from Thomas Cook in US...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 11/08/2009

I purchased travellers cheques from Thomas Cook in US $ during the purchase and general chat between myself, my wife and the cashier I was assured that Thomas Cook would buy any left over on our return (we at this time assumed the same rate at which we purchased $1.54 to £1) we returned with $1200.A couple of months later we booked a holiday to main land Europe we decided to attend at the same branch in possesion of our cheques and reciept cash them in and repurchase Euro,s. What a con they offered us the rate of $1.80 to £1 meaning we would lose almost £150 the cashier stated they do not offer a same exchange facility but a 0% commission .Needless to say we did not cash them in but purchased Euros after a visit to bank so be warned ask before you purchase if they buy them back at the same rate.We intend to use the cheques next year when we visit the States.

“I would be very wary of ever using Thomas Cook...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 15/07/2009

I would be very wary of ever using Thomas Cook travellers cheques again based on a recent experience while on holiday in Turkey. My cheques were lost / stolen on the morning I arrived and it proved very difficult to cancel the cheques, partly because the wrong numbers were printed on my receipt, and it proved totally impossible to obtain replacements. The only offer I received was for a partial refund to be sent to my home address within 30 days. I'm still waiting!!!!!!!!!!

I have Thomas Cook Master Card Euro Travellers Cheque for Gbp 100.00(Gbp100) I went to Thomas Cook in Wimbledon and was told that they do not cash any Travellers Cheque. They asked me to deposit this Cheque into my bank account in London which was deposited but the same was returned unpaid. Then again I googled and found that the post office in Kingston upon Thames would encase the same. On going to the post office same repl, we stopped accepting any tcs.. Is it possible for anybody to guide me as to how I can encash this Tc? Help in the above is appreciated.

I have Thos. Cook travellers cheques issued in U.S. Dollars with the MasterCard logo on them. I have tried to cash them in with Thos. Cook, HSBC and the Post Office. The bank and Thos. Cook can't do anything with them because they have no systems to handle them and the Post Office can only cash them if they are Amex. I have tried phoning the Thos. Cook travellers Cheques Centre but that is unobtainable! Can anyone suggest my next move?
