“The most terrible company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by msirocka on 26/07/2017

I recently had flight from Newark to Riga with connection in Hamburg. Arrived at 6:50AM and my flight was scheduled for 8:50AM, so I had almost 2 hours waited at the gate. I had all documents, did check in Newark, only needed to pick up boarding pass at the gate when someone show up! Couldn't print boarding pass in Newark because United and Air Baltic have no agreement, so they only can confirm your check-in, but boarding pass must be picked up at the gate! When lady show up at 8:15 AM she said I'm not registered.. how did I get to Hamburg then? After she said I supposed to get there earlier to get my boarding pass... Earlier? I was there for over an hours and she got there 4 min ago! Then she said flight is overbooked and someone is seating on my seat!!! Ridiculous! No apologies! No alternative options. NOTHING! I had to BUY tickets with LOT to get to my final destination! I would give them 0 star and NEVER fly with them! NEVER ! When I claimed Air Baltic, they said I did not show up for my flight! WOW! In Riga I found out it is normal practice for Air Baltic! Please, save your nerves and money and fly with some other company!

“Charged us €60 because there website was not working”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lachieoo on 28/06/2016

We received a email from airboltic to check in online. We click on the check in button and it came up with a error about the webpage not responding, all other websites worked and we have internet connection. We figured like every other airline they could just click on print for the bordingpass so left it. When we got to the airport they said they wanted us to go to a sales desk to buy bordingpasses for a total cost of €60. €30 per person. We expalined because their poorly built system we couldn't check in even though we followed their rules. Even though it was clearly there fault they didnt wave the fee and had to charge us.

“shady business - don't trust this airline”

★☆☆☆☆

written by OmarMcMillan253 on 05/06/2016

Air Baltic will strip you from every Euro possible. They have added every possible trick they can in the their booking system to collect as much money as they can from the customer. Dont be fooled by the first flight price on your screen, because by the end of your booking that price will have nearly doubled. I mean 30 Euro for checked in luggage! Not to mention the disgusting technique of increasing the price of the flight while you are going through the booking process! And the price has increased only for your flight, but none of the others! Really?!

“Reasonably priced, but very poor customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jerome493 on 09/12/2015

AirBaltic were a convenient option as they flew directly from Zurich to Riga, but when the flight was cancelled they were incredibly unhelpful. We called the main office immediately to explain why it was particularly important for us to be there the following day (a lecture needed to be given) and we requested being put on an evening link flight that we knew was going close to the destination (so as not to risk it). They said this wouldn't be possible and offered us two very inconvenient options instead, one of which involved 3 flights and getting in at 1:40am. After waiting to speak to the person at the airport, he said he was unable to help (as it had to come from head office). As we were running out of time, we had to book on the link flight, because we could not risk it. We then found other AirBaltic customers from the cancelled flight were onboard the link flight, having been moved onto the flight by the airline, i.e. onto the flight they said we couldn't be moved to, even though we had explained why it was important to get there. Then without consulting us - and too late - we were sent an email confirmation booking us onto a different flight the following morning (and this was one they hadn't even offered us originally). So we incurred the extra cost of booking a flight and a hotel and the airline refused to compensate us anything, even though it was their fault and they would have had to put us up in a hotel anyway. They refunded the flight cost of the one we didn't take, but their customer service department has been incredibly poor and just ignored what we said and just quoted policy to us. They even said they 'do everything possible' to help and that they take into account their customers' preferences, despite the fact that they made no attempt to contact us, before booking us onto a different flight (which was too late by then anyway). So it was just a very disappointing experience and especially so as they would have incurred additional costs to put us up in a hotel and yet wouldn't contribute towards that when we booked onto the other flight. Furthermore, they haven't even responded to some of our emails trying to take the matter further. The airline does everything through a central booking office, so it obviously can't cope very well when a problem happens (i.e. it is slow). Even so, it is frustrating that when you make the effort to speak to them to explain something is urgent, they then gave some customers what they said we couldn't have and they didn't even take the urgency inot account - and actually made no attempt to contact us before booking us on to a flight (by which point is was too late). So I think the airline is reasonably priced, but do be aware that if something goes wrong, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

“Cheap airlines with expensive prices”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Johnathon86 on 28/09/2015

I do not like air Baltic since they are stingy. Their whole approach is how to squeeze you from a few centimes. The prices are far from cheap and more expensive then top companies like Lufthansa or SAS yet you do not get even a minimal service. I was a VIP with over 150000 miles and could never get even basic reward flight

“never fly with air baltic”

written by robbo1248 on 06/06/2015

Baggage didn't arrive on Friday afternoon on flight from Amsterdam to Vilnius. Sent email to Air Baltic and no reply. Phoned Call Centre at least 10 times to explain that I needed them to make sure that my case was sent to Vilnius on Saturday as I would be leaving Vilnius on Sunday morning. Told that it was in Riga and would be sent to Vilnius on Saturday night. The baggage agent in Vilnius then contacted Air Baltic and was told that it had not arrived in Riga. Spoke to Air Baltic again and then told that it was not in Riga! Contacted KLM in Amsterdam who were arranging for the baggage to be despatched and was told that it had been sent to Riga on Saturday morning! So who do I believe? I certainly will not be flying to Vilnius from the UK via Amsterdam with KLM/Air Baltic again. If you are travelling to Vilnius (as I will be doing several times this summer) take a direct flight with Ryanair - they are fine, reliable and on time. Don't spoil your visit by travelling with Air Baltic - unreliable, awful customer service and haven't got a clue what they are doing.

“Don’t trust your kids with Air Baltic!”

★★☆☆☆

written by zeMonahan324 on 03/02/2015

My little girl has done several assisted minor trips between Lithuania and the UK. The last one was Christmas time. Unfortunately this always involves transferring via Riga in Latvia. They have a room for minors, but she told me on the flight out she was not offered a drink. That was a 2-hour stopover. The return involved a 7-hour stopover. I discussed this at check-in. The lady said she should just ask. Also the assistant at Gatwick ensured she got a bottle of water. However this was confiscated during the transfer process. She asked the lady in the children’s lounge if she could have some water, but was told she had to pay. As she didn’t have Lats, the currency of Latvia, she couldn’t do anything about it. She then didn’t get a drink on the flight to Lithuania either. She was quite ill when she arrived there. I was outraged when I heard this. For assisted minor travel you have to pay full fare for children plus just over £100 for the assistance. And they won’t even give you water! I have written to Air Baltic about this 3 times and they have just fobbed me off. I wanted to hear them say they would be adopting new procedures, but no such assurance. She has previously travelled with Lufthansa and was well looked after. Please pass this on. I’d like people to know about this.

“Only one out of three flights was successful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tadux on 20/09/2014

I really had bad experience this year with airbaltic. Customer Service is the worst. I'm really sorry I've booked some many flights in advance using the same carrier airline. 1st flight: The flight from London to Riga successfully. 2nd flight: connecting flight was cancelled without alternative to fly to the destination on the same day. 3rd flight: the tickets were cancelled without notification. Currently, I'm still awaiting for AirBaltic response for over a month without any refunds so far.

“Terrible airline”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AlissaMcKee on 31/07/2014

I have recently traveled with airbaltic and I can truly say that it was the worst experience I had with an airline from the beginning until the end. I chose this company as it had good fares for our trip; however, by the end of the trip, if I sum up all the expenses it required along the way, I could have bought tickets for a better airline that provides all the needed services. To start with, we had to pay 10 eur per person to do the checkin at the counter. Who has ever heard of that??? We received an email a few days before with the online checkin and it didn't state ANYWHERE (and I checked and rechecked every piece of the content) that if we don't do it online, we will have to pay in the airport. Not surprisingly, in the airport everyone who was in the same flight with us had the very same problem. Not to mention about a crew member at the desk who kept pointing towards a piece of paper that had this 10 eur checkin rule. Was I supposed to come to the airport to his desk beforehand to see the hidden fees that I couldn't find anywhere in my email? Moreover, do I HAVE TO be stuck to the internet during my vacation in order to do checkins for my flights? What if I had no access to internet? The company is not transparent at all with its customers and it uses these hidden fees so they can cover up their margins. Not to mention that we had to pay extra for every 20 kg piece of luggage, seats, transaction fees and there were no meals during the flights. So adding up all these costs to the initial price of the ticket, I could have easily flown with an all inclusive airline. Coming to customer service, it seems that airbaltic has no idea what that means. One crew member was extremely rude during the onboarding process and started shouting at me in front of the other passengers regarding my pieces of luggage. She replied to my questions in a very rude way as if they would do me a favor to fly me home for free. It is sad to see that for some companies the idea of customer service is still a new concept, if not unknown. One thing that is definite is that I will never use any of the airbaltic services again and I am pretty sure the other passengers that I met in the plane share the same feeling.

written by disapointed2 on 25/07/2014

C'mon you cant check in before 72hr each way, who the hell is in charge there???? I don't want to be rude but that is just stupid. Example, my one week holiday in Spain on the 18th, i had to look everywhere for a place to print my tickets, do you really want to do this on your holiday, answer is no i don't. What can i say, they really want to be different, well they got their wish.

“Bad service and incompetent customer relations”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kaigroth on 25/06/2014

I was silly enough to prepay 15 euros for a meal online. No Food was given to me on the plane, and when i asked about it the staff all but laughed at me. I sent an email to their customer service and got a reply after 14 days or something like this, offering me a voucher for 26 euros which was only available for 6 months. I replied and said i thought this offer was not good enough, and that the voucher should at least be a little higher in value. I got no reply in a week, and when i sent a New email requsting a response they said they would rather Return the 15 euros in 25 WORKING days, meaning around 5 weeks. They obviously dont care about their customers, and dont deserve to be in the skies With this attitude.

“The worst airline in Europe after RyanAir - is Air Baltic!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/06/2014

Everything by extra charge. With original cost slightly low compare with Finnair the flight become almost double expensive. Laggage charge - 35 euro per one way per 1 person, seat charges from 3 euro to 15 euro. Check in - not free also, from 8 euro till ... who knows. Meals, even simple ones, is also by charge. Original price - 110 euro per person, become 190 euro without any meals and even drinks to very close Riga from Helsinki. Compare to Finnair there everything was included (even 1 check in baggage of 23 kg, compare with 20 kg in Air Baltic and for extra charge of 70 euro both ways) it's become almost double expensive from original low cost price. The Finnair - 120 euro at the same time, is 120 euro till the end - free baggage (1 bag, 23 kg + hand bag), free check in, free soft drinks and even some snack during 1 hour flight to Riga. So it's become much more expensive compare with Normal Airlines with good services. I'll not be surpised if they ask extra money to visit WC in plane and charge you extra to use safty belt.

“Friendly staff, pleasant flight”

★★★★☆

written by pepieti on 06/01/2014

We took air baltic flight from Riga to Budapest and back to Riga for christmas. The personnel were very friendly and the flights were on schedule. Also one big concern we had was how our beagle would take her first flight but as it was a direct flight and quite short and the staff was friendly it went smoothly. After reading the reviews of the airline before the flight we were a little bit scared how the service would be or if there would be any hidden costs involved but in our case everything went as was agreed on booking. Would definitely recommend this airline!

“Air Baltic”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Wildcat00 on 29/12/2013

This is the first time I've ever had problems with an airline. I know how they charge you for every single thing separately, so I was prepared, I selected all the necessary options and paid for everything in advance. A couple years ago I flew with this airline out of Saint Petersburg and didn't have any problems with check-in, but this time the lady at the counter in Warsaw airport said I had two options, check in from my cell phone for free or pay 10 euros per person for her to check us in. I asked her to give me some time to check in from my phone, there was no wifi, so my provider's internet was slow and it took some time for the check-in form to load, then suddenly the lady informs me that she already checked us in and now we have to pay 20 euros at the office. When I asked her why she checked us in without my consent she just said "There's nothing I can do for you, you need to pay now." We went to the office and tried to explain the situation to the lady there, but all she could tell us was a straight-up lie: "Online check-in ends 3 hours before departure, so you're too late", while in reality it ends 1 hour before departure and we still had plenty of time. It was 5am, so there was no hope of reaching any person with more authority, so we had to pay the 20 euros in order to not miss our flight. When I got back home I wrote to airBaltic about this situation, but all they could offer me was a 30 euro voucher that expires in 6 months, a marketing trick to make me buy another ticket from them, since you can't buy anything with 30 euros. Never have I been treated so unfairly by an airline, especially considering that I'm a Baltic Miles member. Avoid this airline at all costs, they will punish you even if you know their rules!

“TERRIBLE AIRLINE!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by the8rman on 26/08/2013

DO NOT EVER FLY AIR BALTIC! EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO BOOK A DONKEY AND CART, I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER EXPERIENCE. Thank you very much Air Baltic for the WORST airport experience I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. I travel quite alot for work and because I am a TV producer, I fly with alot of equipment so I am used to paying for excess baggage, but what happened in Vilnius was absurd. I paid 3500 euros JUST FOR THE BAGGAGE! That is on top of the maximum fee that I paid in advance on-line! for some reason the desk agent in Amsterdam could check me in for the 1400E I paid online, but Vilnius desk agents insisted that I pay thousands more in addition; and because no one else flies into Vilnius, I was forced to pay. I feel like I was just robbed at gunpoint. It is a real shame, because your cabin crew are pleasant, and I could tell that even the desk agents thought this was ridiculous and illogical, but they are automatons that are following a script with no skill for customer service at all. So thanks, you can be assured that I will be taking my 10,000$ a month in airfare business elsewhere for LIFE and I get to spend my 5 hour layover writing terrible reviews for air Baltic on every website I can find in every language that google with translate.

“Totally unacceptable!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MissDRM on 01/08/2013

BEWARE!!!!! This is an airline which did absolutely NOTHING in a worse-case scenario. We were to fly Larnaca-Riga-Copenhagen at 04.30 a.m. on July 28th. When we arrived at the airport at 02.00, we found out that the plane from Riga had never arrived, and the ground crew had not received any information about this and knew nothing. As the passengers arrived, the situation became more and more irritated as ALL of the passengers on the plane had to be re-routed and re-booked via other destinations. We, who got to the airport very early, were a bit luckier and only had a six-hour delay, but some poor passengers, even those with small children, had to wait up to a full day to travel on to their final destination. Even though we had the right to vouchers for meals , drinks and phone calls, the ground staff at the airport could not get in contact with Air Baltic in Riga and only gave us a voucher for €3.50 in their cafeteria. This was not even enough to buy a cup of coffee! We also had the right, depending on the distance of our journey, to collect up to €400 in cash to cover our expenses, but received nothing except the advice to contact air Baltic! We were re-routed vid Zürich and even though they said we were booked on a flight to CPH this was not the case, and when we arrived, SAS knew nothing about this and we had to wait until a seat became available on a flight. We had to collect our luggage, go through customs and then wait to check in again. We had to pay for a dinner at the airport in Zurich where a simple club sandwich cost €25. ( still no compensation from the airline!). As you can imagine, we are totally disgusted with the whole thing and most of all the fact that Air Baltic, even though they had our telephone number and e-mail, did not even bother to notify the cancellation. To this day, almost one week later, we have yet to hear from them to explain what had happened. Please BEWARE when booking with this airline! I have travelled all over the world with low-price airlines, but NONE of them has the same passenger politics as Air Baltic! Their ticket looks very cheap when you see it the first time, but there are a multitude of hidden costs once the ticket is booked. You have to pay a baggage check-in fee for each bag AND for each leg of the journey, so even though your baggage is checked through to your final destination, you will have to pay double or triple the fee! If you want to book your seats in advance you have to pay for them (different fees for each leg of the flight) and each seat has a different value. Otherwise, they do not guarantee that you and the rest of your party will be able to sit together. They even take a €10 check-in fee at the airport if you do not check-in on-line or at the self-service machines. This is very difficult for older people who are not so savvy when it comes to on-line check-in. They do not even give you water on the plane without a charge. When adding all the extra fees together, you would be much better off using a reputable airline which caters to their passengers. As a contrast, the airline (re-routing) that we flew to Zürich, Cyprus Airways, served a complimentary HOT breakfast to all of their passengers and had free coffee, tea and soft drinks for all. (even those who were booked on the flight at the last minute!) THAT is customer service! We will NEVER fly Air Baltic again!

“DONT FLY WITH THEM”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/07/2013

When checking in we found out that we there were several charges that were nearly impossible to see when booking our tickets. This led to an extra fee of around 400 dollars. We feel tricked and Air baltic must know what they are doing. Last time I fly with this company, my advice - stay away!

“Expensive flight, unfriendly staff”

★☆☆☆☆

written by R_a_n_d_i on 23/07/2013

When I tried to check-in online, I got a message that I should check my email for schedule changes and confirm these or phone Air Baltic. I had not received any email and knew that there were no schedule changes, since my sister was on the same flight and didn't experience any problems. Knowing that they ask you for credit card details to charge you 6 euros when you call them for help, I decided to wait and hope it would be sorted out on the airport. In the check-in desk in Rome they said it was something strange with my ticket and it took them 30 minutes to sort it out. It felt unfair to pay 10 euros for check-in when it was not possible for me to check-in online. Their English was poor, so it was not an option to discuss with them. After a while a "supervisor" came was very rude. I guess they were stressed because of the long line, but that is not an excuse for treating customers like that. I also think it should be possible to pay for the checked-in while you book your ticket. 40 euros is a lot more than other companies would charge and when it says on the ticket "Checked-in baggage: Max 20 Kg" you assume that it it something you have already payed for. I will not use this company again.

“Lost Luggae and No Refund ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/07/2013

On a recent trip from Paris DeGaulle Airport through Riga and on to Aranda Airport in Stockholm, I had Air Baltic lose my luggage for three days following my arrival. This situation might have been tolerable except that I was attending an international conference. Having already traveled 24 hours from the US to France, I was in the same clothes four days - nearly 5. I asked Air Baltic as a courtesy to refund one of my luggage charges but they have refused. I will not be traveling this airlines again. As a newer airlines, I would think they would want to send a message of wanting customer support. Caution with flying this airlines - don't check your luggage.

“No listen. Hidden charges for baggages and chek in.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nordman1 on 18/06/2013

" airBaltic, we care. Every feedback is valuable for us!" says a leaflet on board. however... If you have to change something in a multi travel flights, the service : reservations, @airbaltic.lv will not read your mails, or will answer outside the questions. No listen ! Marketing policy is a disaster. For french travel agencies, your electronics tickets are "economy class" and boarding pass delivered by airBaltic also print "economy class". In fact , only 8 kilos of weight for your hand lugage are allowed and nothing else. That means nothing in plane hold without extra charge! Rules seen on airBaltic internet site: "Economy Service Class Basic Class ticket - when paying for baggage while making booking there is a fee of EUR 19.99 per one way of travel for every checked-in baggage piece. If you pay for baggage using Manage booking, baggage payment form or during check-in online there is a fee of EUR 29.99 per one way of travel for every checked-in baggage piece. Economy Class ticket - 1 piece of checked-in baggage allowed with weight up to 20 kg, free of charge. Economy Flex Class ticket - 1 piece of checked-in baggage allowed with weight up to 20 kg, free of charge. At the airport baggage check-in fee is EUR 40 per bag/per one way of travel. In other sales channels (e.g. agencies or ticket offices): fee of EUR 30 per bag/per one way of travel; for BalticMiles members if baggage check-in fee is paid together with the ticket, fee is EUR 20 per bag/per one way of travel. In case your trip includes a stopover in Riga for more than 24 hours, the baggage fee is applicable per each flight to your final destination separately." As you see you have to pay when check in, because your bag is a little bit more than 8 kilos or exceed small dimension of 55X40X20 cm. No hand bag for women allowed ! Other point unknown by travel agency where you have bought your electronics plane tickets : You have also to pay for check in in airport, and recieve your boarding pass ! (10 Euros). they will say you : It is free if you do it yourself with your computer on our site. Many passengers have surprise to pay extra fees. In conclusion, airBaltic has a very bad practice of hidden charges. If you have differents flights with transit in Riga, this low cost company can be as high priced than other companies. Furthermore, food and drinks in the cabin are expensive. The feeling for consummer is no consideration of him. Staff deserves better. Because of his marketing policy, air Baltic is rated among the 10 worse companies !
