Avoid At All Costs

DO NOT BUY FROM EVANS HALSHAW.

I bought a car on the 19th of July this year and emailed them the evening I picked it up about 12 faults/issues the car had that needed fixing, one of which was a knocking coming from the gearbox.

Up to this day, that car has been to Evan's Halshaw a total of 8 (yes, EIGHT) times, 2 of which times they had it for over a month (they have had the car more than me during my ownership) and it STILL has 5 of the same issues I highlighted on the night of my purchase..

So I came to my final straw when I picked up my vehicle on the 6/12/19 for the 7th time, after being ASSURED that the issues were all resolved, and the knocking was still there along with 4 other issues the car has had since day 1. So I've asked to reject/return my car and either be refunded or exchange this car with something else of similar value.

When I brought this to the attention of management I was told, if I chose to go down that route, there would be 'costs to me' and that I have no grounds to reject the vehicle.

I have been BEYOND patient with all the staff after their countless and failures. I even gave the manager the option to refurb my gearbox and fix the other issues (one of which was a dent in the boot lid that happened whilst the car was IN THEIR CARE) and I would take it back and see out my finance agreement. He said he wasnt willing to do this so I now have to persue court action to reject the vehicle under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

All in all, a horrible experience from start to finish and I would reccomend you look elsewhere for your new or used cars. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Quick to take your money but don't give a damn when you have a problem.

Appalling

5 weeks ago we asked them to move a car to Wakefield so we could view it. They asked for a £200 deposit which would be refunded if we didn't buy the car, no problem. A week or so later we arranged an appointment. When we arrived we were told the salesman was just washing the car, a little strange but we waited. 15 mins later said salesman & car arrived. The reason he was having to clean it was there was compound on the body work. On closer inspection it became clear the car had very recently been repaired, botch job tbh, it had runs on the paintwork & flat marks. Clearly this had been a rush job by Evans Halshaw hoping we wouldn't notice, but the person with me was a panel beater & spotted everything straight away. The inside was just as bad, dust from the repair, generally very dirty & had never seen a valet. When we pointed this out to the salesman he didn't seem bothered, just said the £200 would be back in my wifes bank account in 2-3 days. That was over 3 weeks ago & she is still waiting. Numerous phone calls & a visit have still left her out of pocket, fuming is not the word.

Very Dissapointing Experience

The sales person was very professional and polite, on the test drive I pointed out a scraping noise under light braking and was told it was probably because the car had been stood for a while and it would be checked out. The car also was sold to me with service history. I picked up the car shortly before closing and drove home . The brake noise was still evident and when I opened the boot I found the parcel shelf mounting was broken also no service history with the car? after numerous attempts to try to contact someone I eventually was told that the service history was on line and they would order a copy and that they would order a parcel shelf quadrant, regarding the brakes I made an appointment for them to be sorted . The brakes did get checked out and I was sent a report that they were fine , however the noise is still there ? The parcel shelf was sorted eventually after a couple of months two and fro . After having the car just over Three months a crack appeared on the plastic centre console and also the sat nav screen, on close inspection there are tool marks where the console has been removed and re assembled poorly. I received a service history book with no service history in it ! I have checked with the manufacturers dealership but they have no record of it ever being serviced (why I have to find the service history I don't know?)

Given all of this I have lost all confidence in the car what else could be wrong with this car and what will be the cost to get it sorted . To rub salt into the wound I discovered that the car I part exchange (with full service history , service receipts and all maintenance receipts) was sold after one day for a very tidy profit.

Not happy is an understatement the one star is for the sales person, after the deal was done ?????????

Very Poor Customer Service

Where do i begin????

I saw a car for sale located at Evans Halshaw Manchester, so i paid a £200 deposit and asked for it to be moved closer - all good so far!

A week later I tried ringing the branch in Wakefield to find out if they had any idea when my car would arrive. In total I rang 17 times and only on the last call did someone actually answer the phone. I enquired about the car and was told i would be put through to the relevant person - then i was promptly cut off!!!!

I decided to look at other cars the next day and saw - being advertised for sale at the Wakefield branch- the car i had paid a deposit on!! I promptly went to the branch and enquired about the car, which the salesman was giving me the usual patter for, before telling him that i had actually paid a deposit for and requested the car be brought down. Salesman changed tack and said he would get the person who was dealing with it!!

Long story short - i bought the car but it didn't have the SD card for the sat nav system. I was told it had been ordered and would be posted to me and i would receive it in 2 days time. Of course you can guess - it didn't arrive! I did get a voicemail 2 days after from the salesman who asked me to call him back - which i did, but as he was busy i asked the man who answered to pass on a message. to return my call - of course he didn't! Went to the showroom AGAIN 4 days later to find out where it was. The salesman told me that he had rang me, and i told him i had returned the call and that a message was passed on, of which he didn't receive.

He handed over the SD card!! I asked why he hadn't tried calling again to tell me that it was there - His reply was that he was going to call later that day - probably 5 minutes before they shut so i couldn't collect it!!!

Their customer service is diabolical, the phone system is non existent and there is no communication between staff.

Would NEVER buy from them again!!

Avoid At All Cost

Avoid at all costs! Waste of money. Had my car 18 months and it’s been in the garage more times than I’ve actually drove it. Paid for extra warranty but it doesn’t cover anything. The staff are not helpful at all and just pass you around like it’s not important for them. They are so rude and rubbish customer service. I am 22 years old and I work over 60 hours a week for most of my money to go to the car. I could of bought a better working car from somewhere else for the amount of money I’ve spent on the car. Wouldn’t go back here.

Continuing Nightmare

After arranging to meet a sales executive at Evans H. Peugeot, Wakefield and after a 2.5 hour journey the man was not available. A junior salesman, who was pleasant and knowledgeable, showed me the car but could make no decisions without first going to see the "man upstairs".

Each time he did this there was a wait of up to 30 min. which meant that it took hours to make a simple straightforward sale. When I asked to see the car's relevant documents I was told that they did not have those at hand, only a few photocopies, but that they would be available on completion.

The deal was that I pay the asking price for the car and that it would be delivered free of charge.

It gets worse!

After paying a deposit during the visit I later sent the balance to their specified account by an instant bank transfer. Two days after that they informed me that they were cancelling the delivery because they had not received the balance. I was left thinking that the sum was lost somewhere in cyberspace! I immediately contacted the bank who assured me that the beneficiary bank had acknowledged the payment 2 days earlier. I contacted E. Halshaw and asked a junior member of staff to check the account herself. I received a reply to say that they had now found the money but that the delivery was still cancelled. When I tried to press them for a new delivery date they went into "ignore the customer" mode and would not reply to my communications.

As my previous car was now off-road, I was left with only a push bike to travel around in wet freezing weather; not too good for a 66 year old. About a week later the car was delivered but with most of the documentation missing, which I was previously assured they would provide.

They also sold the car without having carried out any basic servicing checks. Tyres were well under the recommended pressures. On the first day of sub zero temperatures a critical warning message appeared on the dash screen to park the car and have it taken to a workshop. The coolant had frozen to slush because of insufficient antifreeze.

Six weeks after paying fully for the car I am still waiting for:

1. a receipt for the money paid.

2. proof that the necessary checks were made on the vehicle's finance/ validity.

3. the owner manual/ media booklets

4. the registration document. DVLA say they have no record of the change of owner form being sent to them.

At the moment Evans H. are back into their "ignore the customer" mode. I can't get any response from them. The junior staff involved with the sale performed well, hence the single star, but they had to line up behind the names with titles. My complaint concerns those faceless individuals who are just mouths behind desks. They radiate insincerity and a lack of competence. I will provide updates if the situation improves.

Poor Customer Service

Worst customer service ever had when buying a car. Got told could not move car closer to my home address, however could purchase and drive away on same day due it being a 5 hour round trip . Failed to respond to many phone calls, failed to passed on photos as promised. Made journey to dealers and part way through journey received phone call saying car cannot be viewed as previously arranged. Wasted journey, and continued to fail to keep me updated. Cancelled purchase of car as a result.

Diabolical Franchise....

Left a deposit at Evans Halshaws Peugeot in Wakefield to have a car within the group brought to my local garage, checked the cars eta 1 week on and was told that the franchise from were the cars was coming from hadn't booked the transport arrangements, told they would have it brought over within the week, 1 week later was told that the car had been picked up but was then returned to the franchise from where it was collectrd.....

Only when I contacted the local franchises principal dealer did the car get brought over.

3 weeks after taking the car, still awaiting the past service information for the car and a deposit that we left for our old cars log book which was being updated at the time of the transaction.

Throughout the buying process we've been:lied to, given false promises, had numerous unanswered phone calls,.

This franchises sales and management teams are extremely inept and reading others reviews, ours is not an isolated case.

Would never buy another car from this franchise.

Horrendous

Bought a car that was not fit for purpose. Car was kept for over a month. Was told it was 4 different things. Vehicle was returned twice telling me it was fixed. On neither occasion had it been. Was told stories by the service manager  and told "don't listen to a word he says" by the service advisor.

Avoid at all costs. Caused endless amount of stress and now fighting for a refund on the vehicle.

Do not buy from this dealership.

No Messing About

I dealt with a man when selling my car. He was very professional and just told you how I was, no salesman's patter which always puts me off. I needed to sell my car as we were getting a company car so no longer had use for it. Evans offered me a better online price than we buy any car did and from reviews of we buy I'd heard I didn't really want to deal with them anyway. Once I'd got to the showroom he inspected my car and then the price was deducted to suit which I'd always expected. all in all I was pretty happy. And the selling process was very fast and easy. Thanks to the person I dealt with.
