Arnold Clark, Perth, Perthshire

Bought my 1yr old Citroen Cactus from the Burton on Trent branch and it was delivered f.o.c to Durham.

We went to Dundee for the weekend when the car developed a emissions problem.

Took it to Arnold Clark in Perth on the Saturday and was told it needed a new part which wouldn't be there until Monday which meant having to stay an extra night.

We spent £110 on hotel bills for the one night and Arnold Clark covered all the extra expense.

Car was repaired,washed and cleaned.

Five star service and would recommend this company every time.

On further inspection I have found that :

• the log book had only been stamped once in 43723 miles

• the front passenger’s side inside wheel rim was damaged causing the tyre to go flat and have to be subsequently replaced I also now understand that the four tyres have less than a 1,000 left on them.

When fitting a new tow bar, the engineer at my local garage identified the following :-

• The vehicle had previously been fitted with a tow bar....the tow bar socket was in a plastic bag taped to the underside of the vehicle and the left and right tow bar anchors were still in situ.

• When this tow bar was removed the original integral cross member was not re installed.

• This left the rear of the vehicle without support and in an unsafe, unprotected condition in the event of a rear shunt /collision.

I am concerned that this vehicle was not properly checked prior to sale and was released to me in an unsafe condition. I would not wish to pay the same price for a car that had towed as opposed to a car which had never towed. Reason is that car may have been used to tow a horse box which it did with consequent EXTRA wear on clutch and gearbox also rear suspension. Had you known the car was used for towing, a horse box this would have affected your decision to buy this vehicle.

Don't buy a car from Arnold Clark. Very poor service, kept waiting 45 minutes to be told that the car we had ordered had been sold to someone else. We then shook hands on the purchase of another car only to be told later that night that it had also been sold. We have complained to head office but not even received a response
