We Visited The National Mining Museum In Huddersfi
We visited the National Mining Museum in Huddersfield on a Bank Holiday and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The museum has recently received Lottery funding and is expanding. In the meanwhile access is absolutely free. The museum is an original disused coal mine. There is an interesting exhibition area and various buildings and areas to look around. The high point is riding down to the original mine using a modified 'cage'. During this trip you can really get a feel for the cramped conditions of the early miners and the (not much better) conditions of the modern day miners. There is a realistacally priced cafeteria and an outdoor nature trail if the weather is fine. Highly recommended. Please note that the mine trip is not open to children under 5.
