Staff very attentive and friendly,

Veg is poor side veg also poor

Dinner warm not hot

Brown plates thick and horrible

Condiments should already be on table

We came to Masons to try the restaurant on a times meal offer. On araival we decide that the times menu looked unappealing and asked for the standard menu. We were told they had run out of standard menus even though we thought the restaurant looked quiet! Although it was a Friday evening the restaurant did not seem busy at all. With a drink each any coffee the meal came to £50 which would have been reasonable had it not been so disappointing. The food was appalling in quality. We both had Mason's prawn cocktail, which consisted of seemingly frozen watery prawns and a watery messy sauce. I then had field mushrooms topped with rarebit. Basically this seemed to be tasteless mushrooms topped by tatsteless cheese, surrounded by undressed lettuce and watery tatsteless tomatoes. I thought it was a tasteless meal. Will never return.

We had a fantastic night. We ate from the a la carte menu and were extremely impressed. The service was of a very high standard and also very friendly. We will definitely be going back to the restaurant and recommend it to others.

I would not recommend Masons restaurant in Brentwood to anyone. For what is an expensive meal (we were celebrating a 50th birthday), the service was appalling... young 16 - 17 year olds with no proper training... wrong orders, cold food with no sauce, tiny veg portions, and we waited 20 mins for a bottle of wine and had to ask 2 waiting staff. We made our comments known, but to no avail. I have emailed the restaurant manager over a week ago and I am still awaiting their comments!!
