Motor burned ou after two years. Waste of time cannot replace motor ecomonically

This is a reasonably good lawnmower, but watch out ! They have some variants with a power supply cable that is hard wired. This is different from the normal arrangement with electric mowers, where the cable has a plug for the electric socket at one end and a plug for the lawnmower at the other. The result is dramatic. If you damage the power cable (which is not a particularly unusual accident) your mower is junk. There is no way to replace the cable.

Like so many others I can only add my experience, used very little just over 2 years old, half of it spent in my beautiful Log Cabin it looks like new but now the motor is burnt out! I cannot find the words to describe how disappointed I am with this product and more so the brand, Bosch. When I purchased it was A highly rated and relatively new model so it just goes to show it pays to go with something slightly older with a decent track record! hopefully a proven model. This is landfill of the worse kind, I would never purchase another Bosch product again be it Fridge, Dishwasher etc how a leading manufacturer can associate itself with such a low quality product beggars belief.

Have only just bought this. Managed to mow enough of the lawn to half-fill the grassbox - then the damn thing died.... taking it back to Argos this afternoon and going for a different make. Complete waste of time and money - I bought it because I thought Bosch was a reliable make, but I'm obviously not the only one to be disappointed.

My mower has hardly done one season and the over-run brake has siezed up. i.e. the belt will slip and start to smoke. I knew straight away what the problem was because I have had the same with the larger Flymos. Quickest way to rectify was to remove the friction discs. I used a Dremel tool to cut them away - no point in trying to remove the grooved pulley from the shaft as the two have plainly siezed together. So much for safety featurers! The flippin things have a deadmans handle which is something elce which was not bothered about in the sixties, which was when I started to buy mowers!!

I have always liked Bosch but my mower has been a disaster. After only a few months its burnt through the drive belt due to poor assembly. I shall be avoiding Bosch in future.

Motor burnt out after four mows. After a month I am still waiting for redress. I would not recommend Bosch nor B & Q.

Had it 23 months motor just burnt out luckily I have 1 month left for new motor I thought buying bosch was better than flymo how wrong was I go and buy a flymo for under £50 pounds miles better

My Rotak 40 expired in a flash of sparks from the switch array on the handle. It is about three years old and was bought to replace a Flymo I had for 16 years. Until it gave out I was satisfied with it without being particularly impressed. It cut closer to the edges than the Flymo but I still needed to strim so any advantage was negligible. I was far happier with it than the Bosch strimmer though. I felt that it would be better suited to someone left handed it has never felt comfortable to operate, and the strim-wire supplied with it was incredibly flimsy, it broke every few seconds. The machine still works though which is something to be grateful for. I tried to find a Flymo similar to my old one without much luck. Most in B&Q or Homebase were either too small or hovers (I prefer all the power to go to the blades rather than half to generating lift). I've settled for a Qualcast which came with a strimmer and used both for the first time today. Initial impressions are good but its too soon to give a recommendation. I can categorically state though that the strim-wire supplied with the Qualcast is a vast improvement on the Bosch. 100 pounds for the mower and strimmer combined in Homebase. It sounded like a good deal and nothing has changed that impression yet.

It's a simple story - nice product but burns out after one season. Don't buy this. You'd think Bosch had built the thing to burn out as fast as possible. @benstarkie

HI suddenly my electric rotak has started spinning the blade in reverse it has served me well for 2 years! can anyone help?

as a single mother of teenage daughters money is usually carefully spent so when I was given a choice of gifts from my company for 25 years service, instead of a nice piece of jewellery I went for the practical choice - the bosch rotak lawn mower. Its been used less than 20 times and has now stopped working. The blade does not turn althought the motor is still making a noise! after reading these reviews it looks like i am out of luck and will not be able to fix it. I did spend two hours yesterday with the instruction book trying to get it to work. I cant afford to replace the mower and am just so disappointed that a supposedly good quality product has let me down. Its a shame that a company passes off such shoddy quality goods to its customers.

Our Bosch Rotak 40 Rotary Lawn Mower motor burnt out just one week after the warantee expired so it's just over two years old. Having read the other reviews and now with our own experience, we definitely won't be buying another Bosch product. It was a good mower but with this short "life span" it's very poor value for money.

The mower is lightweight and easy to use. However, the handle for raising raising and lowering the cutting height is very easily knocked out of position and you can end up scalping your lawn. I was amazed to find the mower no longer works in less than 2 years. It is under warranty and clearly there is an electrical fault or the motor has gone. This is not what one expects from Bosch products. The repair service line is also appalling. When I gave my address in Monmouthshire, I was told the nearest Qualcast repair shop was in North Wales. Looking on-line, I find there are repair outlets in Newport, Cardiff, Bristol, etc. all within 11 to 25 miles. If Bosch would like to train its ill-educated employees to ask for one's postal code, it might be less frustrating for customers, as well as not having a premium rate line for customers to pay for their enquiries. When a product has failed within the guarantee period, it is rather like rubbing salt into a wound is it not? One is unlikely to purchase a Bosch product again under such circumstances. Think very carefully about the Rotak 40, before purchasing.

Same here. Look on EBAY there are mnay for sale as spares with same fault. its a weakness in the design of the drive from the motor to the blade pulley. Its a rubber belt and a plastic puolly wheel (yes I did say plastic). The drive shaft will burn through this pulley or even shatter it if you catch the blade on the edge of the path or a tree root etc. You can get the spare parts but the motor is fixed in and gives no movement to allow the new belt to be fitted.

Our Bosch Rotak 40 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower lasted 2years and one week. The mower no longer works and it seems that the motor has burnt out. I certainly did not expect this from a Bosch product.
Obviously I would never buy another Bosch.

My motor failure was caused by a piece of the plastic mains cable clamp at motor end entering the rotating motor armature and ripping apart one of the motor field coils (poor quality cable clamp) there are probably other poorly designed parts - A good product let down by lack of quality control, being a retired electrical enginner with many years spent rewinding & repairing all types of electric drives I intend to remove the motor housing of my replacement mower and look for anything that could possibly detach and enter the fast turning parts
I would like to completely dismantle, inspect and rebuild the drive parts but will not due to the warranty, the manufacturer should pull random products and do this
