Good film but got motion sick a lot and a headache. A good thing about the handy cam is that it felt like you were there and was quite panicky.

The downfall was that I felt cheated because no one survived.

I was hooked to it for the whole time with my mouth open! There wasn't one second where you could relax!

I would have liked it if someone survived, anyway, didn't the one that was seperated in another helicopter survive?

Cloverfield revolves around a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people.
Therefore it is derisively compared to The Blair Witch Project becuause of the way it was filmed.

I think there were good actors in Cloverfield. It should have ended better and the reviews should of told us more about the film to make me want to watch it more. I think Cloverfield was an interesting movie but it caused bad head aches.

Don't bother going to see this film - it's truly awful. The only thing that is 'truly terrifying' about it is that fact that people were paid to make it!

Cloverfield properly started off as a short story on paper, and should have stayed there.
the script was weak, and the special effects were just average.
the shakey camara work annoys, and is so last year.

what was annoying is there was no real answer as to where the monster came from,
another film without an ending,
i feel it should have gone straight to dvd, and for the title to say 10 / 10 this film is a must see, overrated, over hyped and the only place for this film is on your list of nothing better to do list.

Cloverfield Review - Its been done before and better - ie, BWP.
Where is the story?
What on earth was it all about?
Totally random - cannot believe folks got paid to make it.
V.surprised it made it to cinemas.
Definitely I am a marketing victim.
Summary - don't waste your money on buying this DVD.

This movie was suspenseful, however, the shaky camera work was irritating. This movie had great potential, but it was only about an hour and a half and seemed to end in the middle of the story. When the credits started rolling, it definitely left me with a lot of unanswered questions. That may work for a series such as "Lost" (which I love), but it doesn't work for a movie.

I didn't go into this movie with high expectations. I just wanted a good ride. It certainly delivered that. Any bad criticism I gave was just from an observational stand point and certainly didn't affect the way I thought of the film. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I am a sucker for happy endings so I was disappointed that almost all the kids died in the film. Still, every now and then I watch a film that ends unhappy and I am completely OK with it. Especially when I am prepared for that. The intro of the movie pretty much pepped me for it.

Great story line, great graphics, great acting finished with a shocking ending, with a side dish or blood & guts & headachy camera movement. It was good and I recommend anyone to watch it who is over 12 at least because it was pretty horrible at parts.

written by on 11/02/2008

The film wasn't really a good success because it was too far fetched. I understand that it's just a film and it has monsters in and all but no one would be a able too film that long with out the armed forces taking the camera off them, also when his battery dies on his phone he gets a new one that happens to fully charged, the film doesn't really have a point for example most films have say something happening then an explanation then a ending this just started with a guy's camera then a monster comes along we don't know how and then a bridge collapses and it ends i can see that someone might say theres a number 2 thats why that happened but it says its evidence thats been recovered form location formally know as central park so its ended basically i was actually really disappointed with the film as a whole nothing like i thought it would be as i am a big fan of lost. overall big let down because even the people in the cinema couldn't believe it was finished because there was no point to it, however i respect the film maker but i would suggest a bit more effort and make it less far fetched however I'm not a director.

written by Big Kelly on 08/02/2008

I watched Cloverfield last night after hearing so much about it. The first reason that attracted me to it was the fact that it was written by the creator of Lost. After hearing so many bad things about it though like people being sick whilst watching due to motion sickness I was slightly put off.
I needn't of been, it was excellent, lots to keep you entertained and glued to your seat. The story was pretty fast moving after the first 25 mins, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend it to all.

“For my Cloverfield review I can honestly say I really...”

★★★★☆

written by jaffacakes on 06/02/2008

For my Cloverfield review I can honestly say I really don't know what to make of the movie as I neither loved it or hated it. On one hand; the plot was one dimensional, the story undeveloped and the ending somewhat blunt, but then on the other hand it was a truly original piece of film making and one should not expect anything more from a movie shot from a single camera in this manner.

Basically, events are shown first hand through the eyes of a group experiencing the devastation caused by a huge monster attacking New York City. What you see is what's supposedly caught on their camera, nothing more, nothing less. No build up, no climax, little insight into characters (apart from the basics - going away party, the girl...)

If you're looking for a monster flick with a beginning, middle and end then you may be disappointed. This film leaves a lot to the imagination & if you can cope with that, then go see it, enjoy it for what it is. I've a feeling though that due to the hype, a lot of people will have been let down. I can't help thinking that the 'unique' shooting style is the movie's sole selling point, which to me makes it somewhat gimmicky and although different from your usual Hollywood blockbuster, it still lacked the grittiness I was expecting from a film dubbed 'a cross between Blair With and Godzilla'
Still, what it does manage to do is be different from anything else at the moment and if you are open minded then you might just love it.

Cloverfield is almost a hybrid of Blair Witch and Godzilla, which, although it may sound pretty cheesy, is actually very good. A possible contender for one of the best films of the year.

The whole movie sucked. Only the explosions and action and actually seeing the monster were the only good bits. It bored the hell out of me.

Please, America. Leave the city-destroying-out-of-this-world monsters to the Japanese. Please.

“I can see why some people may be disappointed by this...”

★★★★★

written by on 05/02/2008

I can see why some people may be disappointed by this film as the plot basically consists of the main characters trying to get away from a monster, however I thought it was really well made. A far cry from those films of the same ilk - Godzilla, King Kong etc; Cloverfield is a harrowing depiction of fear in the face of destruction and in parts I actually forgot that it was a fictional monster that they were trying to run away from. This is mostly owing to the fact that the movie is shot from a single camera perspective, so we get to experience events at ground level the whole way through the film, and only catch glimpses of the beast in action every so often. The overall effect is shaky, full on and frighteningly real.

A great piece of film making in my view, but don't go see it if you've a predisposition to become easily nervous/nauseous/dizzy as it's relentless.

What is the point? The most talked about part of the film is the hugely annoying and unnecessary way it was recorded and filmed, this is not for those who suffer from travel sickness or have trouble with inner ear balance.....go and watch another film.....but not Sweeney Todd........boy is that a let down as well!

Cloverfield is a very interesting film, really pulls you in and leaves you wanting to see more. Overall film is well presented and entwined. Got a lot going for it. Good the way they tried to film it differently.

★★★★☆

written by matt of bicester on 04/02/2008

I don't usually watch thrillers but this film was intriguing enough for me to go to the cinema. I was not disappointed. I was gripped from start to finish, as was the rest of the audience, who were silent throughout.

I'm not going to give a synopsis because I believe you will enjoy the film more if you don't know what to expect. Just believe me when I say this is a high quality production. I had seen the trailer recently online, and I think it revealed too much, so avoid it if you can. Just go along to the cinema with an open mind and enjoy Cloverfield as a thrilling 85 minutes.

A few comments on the production: The idea is well-conceived, and certainly bucks the trend of massively budgeted, over-the-top Hollywood movies. That said, the effects budget was well spent as it was totally seamless. The cast were pretty good. I think it was an advantage that they were relative unknowns. The story was a little contrived in that the main characters made some decisions that unnecessarily put them in danger. However, for the majority of the film they made the sort of decisions that you would expect from people in a crisis situation.

Overall, a very believable film shot from an unusual viewpoint, with thrills and action all mixed together expertly. This film may not be for everyone, but people who appreciate film-making should enjoy this.
