Toranas Are Tough. Ive Got A Sl3300 Lj Which I Am
Toranas are tough. Ive got a sl3300 LJ which I am doing up as a 4-door XU-1 since Holden didn't make them. I've just about finished it except for painting in orange. The 202 is running triple 45DCOE Webers on it, lumpy cam and free-flow exhuast with a big bore muffler.

The Torana XU-1 is a great ~ fun package. High performance, reliable unit. The steering with the rack and pinion is light and accurate.
A trick to tune the triple carbs, but a breeze once mastered. Sensible mods make it even more efficient .. A pleasure to own.
The body is prone to rust in the heater/ ventilation cavity on either side immediately below the right and left side of the windscreen lower corners...body / structural ~ not good!
The clutch rod assembly and or rod can snap without warning.

Hey My Names Luke And I Have A Lj Torana 1973 Type
Hey my names luke and i have a lj torana 1973 Type S. Anyone who puts a v6 or v8 in one of these aussie icons is dumb. These cars are worth loads in there original conditions. Its like any car you buy no one wants one in 30 years time that has had a different motor or poof autometer taco gauge placed in it. or had the dash butchered to fit a $300.00 cd player. These car will go down in history. I bought mine as an unroad worthy bomb. It knows has a fully reconded motor, reconditioned interior and new body painted VY holden green Hot House Mica. Over my dead body will and gay gauge or cd player be carved into my dash. Respect your Toranas people your not a falcon owner.
Why can no one put another motor in these beasts? HDT were fooling around with a v8 LJ. Ive bought mine back from the brink of death. I should be able to put any motor I want in it without hypocritical people calling me an idiot. That's the spirit of hot-rodding and customization. My four door would never be anywhere near original again so theres no harm in making it totally unique!
I aggree with blenda your an idiot why would you paint a clasic like the lj in a rediclious colour like that. I have a two door lj, it may not be stock because it is two expensive to get them that way but it is in the original gtr xu-1 colour Chateau Mauve Metallic. Your a hypocrit.
ha ha you say you like the cars in original condition but yet you paint it in hothouse green.
i have seen that same color on so many toranas its not funny if you want the car to look stock you have to paint in a stock color.

The Xu-1's Were Probably The Best Torana's To Ever
The XU-1's were probably the best torana's to ever come out. They are very good looking, extremely fast and powerful and still have a LOT of potential in all those areas. I am very supportive of your decision to knock back the offer of $16 000 for your car. Toranas, especially XU-1's, are becoming extremely rare, and it has taken me a very long time to find one within my price range. Although i mainly use my torana for a bit fun, i do take every precaution and chance i can to take the best care of it i can. Make sure you hold on to that car, they are not only getting rarer and always keeping their sentimental value, but their value in money is going up. Muscle cars rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You will not regret reading this review, just listen to it. Please. =)

Interesting Stories By Everybody Who Has Contribut
Interesting stories by everybody who has contributed but a lot were well off the mark.
I went to Bathurst in October for the XU-1 meet. There were 114 examples there and yes the price going now for an ORIGINAL, and I stress that word,1973 bathurst is anywhere between $30,000 to $40,000 depending on condition. Secondly to the guy in the states, you are incorrect regarding builds during 1973. They built runs in March/April, in Jul and in August and September.
How do I know? I have a copy of the build records from GMH listing all the toranans built. Also I have owned my 1973 Bathurst XU1 since new. Thirdly they actually built 213 Bathurst xui's in 1973 but only needed to homologate 150 to go racing so that was all they listed.
Hi,
I am after a 1973 Bathurst Special, will pay good money

As a PS to that last post go to www.members.cardomain.com/lc70gtr Check out my wee beastie, some police LC GTRs and some very cool V8 LH & LX Toranas.......Regards....Barry.
Sorry Flame Rod but you are wrong about not keeping a GTR/XU-1 original. The originals fetch better prices. You can cruise past me in my fairly original Monza Blue LC GTR any time you like but I sure know which car that people will admire the most and it ain't no Torana with a Ffffffford motor in it.
To Bucko, go to www.gmh-torana.com and you will get all the info you want on any model Torana.
Great site, great bunch of blokes and gals.
Regards..........Barry or LC70GTR on the Torana forums.
