Food at the Glass House in St Andrews was very average. I was in for lunch, and the salad was small and meagre. The dressing was awful. The main course was very odd - pasta with pesto and a Cumberland sausage. I won't go back.

Pleasant surroundings but dreadful piped music. Good staff...but the food is mundane. I won't be back!

3 weeks after The Glass House opened, I decided to try it out for myself, as there were no real Italian restaurants in St Andrews; just Pasta and Pizza joints. First impressions on entering the restaurant were OK. It was new, and the staff were eager to please. That where it ends I'm afraid. I was sat next to the window where a cold breeze blew across my head, and every time the door opened you felt as if you were in the Antarctic.
The menu was the same old pasta and pizza, so I plumbed for the Tagliatelle Carbonara with fresh egg, pancetta, onion, Parmesan and cream, which surly would be right.
How wrong was I? The Tagliatelle (pasta) was so over cooked it was almost mush and the sauce tasted as if it was out of a jar. I did not hang around, because if you cannot get the most basic of dishes right then you are not going to get the rest right.
I have eaten in Italian restaurants across Italy, Sicily and the UK, and if you are in St Andrews you would be better heading for Bella Italia or Zizzi; at least you will get good pasta and pizza dishes.
