EXCELLENT hands on science for young children. 1 example - building the earth thru it's layers from different colors of clay. Crust, mantel .. iron core. Blue & green on surface. Cut the ball in half and see the layers. label each with a little flag. my 4 1/2 year old, now 5 1/2 can still tell you all about it and uses the vocabulary. Fantastic. Loved it. Franchise it. Young kids are such sponges. Whether they're playing in a sandbox or doing this they're having fun and learning. why not make it meaningful stuff that will make future learning all the easier.

My children and I have visited Eureka many times and I would highly recommend it as a day for for children over 3 and under 10. There are lots of things for children (and adults) to do including garage where they can change wheels, refuel and see how a car works. The is an area all about the human body and children can learn and see lots about how their bodies work. All exhibitions are understandable to children of various ages. There are also activity workshops - but these get very busy.
There is a picnic train where you can eat your lunch, and also a very pleasant cafe - both of these get very busy. You can also go into Halifax town centre for lunch where McDonalds and other eateries can be found.
It is very close to the railway station so is easy to get to from all areas.
I would recommend Eureka as a day out when the weather is not good.
