“cheaper to go private”

Written on: 20/09/2019 by firebyrd (66 reviews written)

I thought the P.D.S.A. were animal lovers yet when it comes to vaccines for all your pets and care for a second pet they charge around three times what a private vet would. seems they are more money lovers than animal lovers… Read Full Review

“Beware ”

Written on: 02/02/2017 by Krista371 (1 review written)

Normally an insurance policy covers costs other than agreed excess. NOT the PDSA pet insurance. If they judge that your vet is charging too much for medicines or services they will not pay. Therefore beware as you will not only be liable for excess you will also be billed for items such as Metacam, etc. You will not be made aware until you make a claim. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from any company… Read Full Review

“You are rubbish”

Written on: 19/04/2016 by janetirwin (1 review written)

Spoke with the claims team for the umpteenth time on 17/03, was told they had everything they required to assess my claim and it would take 7-10 days. I have chased several times, sent emails, sms messages and no one came back to me. I then spent my valuable time on a call with them yesterday was told there was a missing invoice from the vets which had been chased 3 times. Called the vets they said they sent it at first request and had no records of any calls chasing this. Then today I got an… Read Full Review

“Unbelievable”

Written on: 23/10/2015 by BernardMcKenna120 (1 review written)

Being threatened with debt collectors because we didn't sign the renewal contract and cancelled our direct debit because we no longer required the insurance now we have to make phone calls that we cannot afford due to the fact that PDSA cannot see that if a renewal is not signed and direct debit is not active that the product is not desired the reason we do not wish to renew is because price went up by quite a few pound and admin charges were just ridiculous I would not recommend and will not… Read Full Review

“Just shoddy”

Written on: 10/09/2015 by TaliyahMacGregor (1 review written)

A claim was submitted and we received a selection of disjointed emails then one rejecting the claim, emailed asked why and no response. Found the email address head of PDSA and that email was forwarded on to a complaints department who agreed the rejection was wrong in 2 hours and that the emails sent were poor quality however these are all "standard" emails set up in the system… Read Full Review

“Fantastic customer service, and prompt claim resolution. ”

Written on: 11/06/2014 by SN1985 (1 review written)

PDSA have been fantastic in resolving our claim; quickly, efficiently with no fuss or hassle. I found the staff to be very compassionate, caring and I was updated as to every step of our claim process. I'd recommend them in an instant, and will continue to use them with any other pets that join our family :-)… Read Full Review

“Shocking From So Called Animal Lovers”

Written on: 04/06/2014 by Tamaraz407 (1 review written)

I have a 3 and a half year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Just had my renewal came through from the PDSA and has gone up by nearly £5.00 a month. I called and they advised me that it has gone up due to my dog being a year older.I told the member of staff that i think that people like me who paying for care for our animals are being hit hard. That families like myself and finding it hard financially and wished I had the opportunity to be able to take my dog to a PDSA for small donation. … Read Full Review

“Disgusting behaviour”

Written on: 20/11/2013 by Angry Barrister (3 reviews written)

Took out insurance for all my cats two years ago but each year the premium has increased by well above inflation (usually 15%). Endded the arrangements for two of my cats earlier this year but had to keep one policy open due to the cat becoming ill (first time in all our time with them). They initially refused to pay the insurance stating that I had only been with the vet for three months and my previous vet had not responded. I've actually used the same vet for 16 years so that is the first… Read Full Review

“Disgusting customer service with PDSA animal insurance”

Written on: 03/08/2013

My cat recently had to have an operation for a granuloma on his leg. I put in a claim and was turned down so I decided to phone for an explanation as, besides his vaccinations, my cat hasn't needed any veterinary treatment in about five years. It was saturday morning and their letter said they would be available so I phoned and was repeatedly told that they were busy and would answer ASAP for eighteen minutes. I then had to put the phone down to deal with a caller at my door. I phoned again… Read Full Review

“Ongoing battle”

Written on: 26/06/2013 by leximac1 (1 review written)

My boxer mac is 2 and has had a couple of visits to vet for minor things which i didn't bother to claim for as by the time my £75 excess comes off it wouldn't really be worth it. In march, however, he had a severe allergic reaction to something (no idea what). His face swelled up, he had itchy spots all over body and his ears were red and itchy. He needed steroid injection and pills and also antihistamine injection and pills. His ears were so painfull from scratching that he needed sedated to… Read Full Review

“Don't even bother!”

Written on: 04/11/2012 by Naomijade1986 (1 review written)

When I first took out this insurance, I thought I was getting a good deal from a well know pet "caring" establishment. I started off by paying £17.50 a month for my 4year old boxer. The next year, I was sent a letter at the time of renewal and they had bumped the price up to £35!! I had made a small claim for something so insignificant I can't even remember what it was, I rang them up about the sudden price increase and they offered me a cheaper package of £25 a month, but I had to lower his… Read Full Review

Piirro's Response to Naomijade1986's Review

Written on: 28/01/2013

It's shocking .... To be honest I think all companies are the same , I am experiencing the same through more than insurance ... My premiums have jumped up to £42 a month from originally £20 and will no doubt continually rise over the years . Having spoken to me vet , who says they get so many calls from customers regarding this insurance jump happening to people all the time .
It's ridiculous ... I think it's best to try and set aside a savings account for your pet and pay monthly into it ... As insurance companies are a rip off ...
My car insurance is nearly half of what my pet insurance is ...
There should b a law against it !!

Claimed over a year ago in respect of eye injury to dog, took them 14 months to reject a claim for £227, lost items in post, requested items from our vets that they had received 3 times over, i made an official complaint, and received definitive no on the claim 10 days after, after 14 mths of total non communication, premiums doubled too, avoid like the plague!… Read Full Review

“PDSA Unfair policy”

Written on: 19/04/2012

After agreeing with the PDSA that they would reimburse advertisement costs for my missing cat, when the claim came through they deducted 57% of the amount that should have been awarded. Following further communication, no intelligent or logical explanation has been given for this deduction, apart from 'the amount is higher than expected'. Their awards are completely discretionary and don’t even follow their own terms and conditions. Be warned. … Read Full Review

“Impossible to contact”

Written on: 13/01/2012 by RegBurns (1 review written)

We are insured with the PDSA, but we have found it almost impossible to make contact to make a claim. There is a non-01 phone number so I suspect that they make a profit by keeping us hanging on. Then, they don’t send out a claim form. Yesterday, 12.01.2012, I got through and asked to make a complaint. Got me! The complaints department is also too busy; can they call me back in the evening? I agreed, but, you guessed it, they never called, and have not done so today. I worry that they are… Read Full Review

Written on: 05/04/2011 by pat612 (1 review written)

Insured with PDSA when my Boxer was 12 weeks old, when she was 17 weeks old my vet said the dog had a skin condition and referred to a dermatoligest. to date I have Paid out nearly £400 and the vet made two claims. PDSA continue to ask myself and the vets for a ONE YEAR HISTORY yet they know dogs date of birth 27th July, no payment made to myself, told I had £70 excess on my policy and no money due, my maths says £370 due. Biggest mistake ever made going to PDSA advise anyone to get lifetime… Read Full Review

They are a long time paying out. The level of communication is poor. If your pet is taken ill during a holiday (uk) and you have to continue treatment at home (uk)there may be problems.
You need two claim forms and a lot of patience. If there is any problems arising, you can be sure that they will not inform you… Read Full Review

“I could not fault PDSA pet insurance in any wat at all. ”

Written on: 28/04/2009

I could not fault PDSA pet insurance in any wat at all.
My yorky was recently diagnosed with diabetes and it took a while to regulate her .
I do not have a greedy vet so when the fees reached over £800
I expected this and though it fair for the marvellous care she received.
The PDSA pet insurance run by BDML paid me very promptly and I encountered no problems
I have been very pleased with them… Read Full Review
