I have used this card for over 4 years and found it suited my needs however over the past year they have got to be unreliable from not being able to access the account online for days on end to now my new card still not arrived and i have funds locked in the old card, after repeated calls total waste of time. Sorry but time to move on plenty of other of this type of card available.

“AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by linzik11 on 05/08/2015

Whatever you do, do not purchase a Prime card!! It has been nothing but hassle from the start, and the call centre staff are useless!! I bought a card last week for my mums birthday, thinking it would be a great and convenient way for her to buy something special. Didn't know the amount I wanted to put on the card as it was shared between me and my brother so just paid the £5 for the card and put the minimum £10 on it to activate it...as it says you can upload it online. Tried to upload and was told I had to upgrade the card first, which was going to take 3-5 days (not sure if this was on top of the 3-5 days I was told the registration would take). Very helpful customer service told me this (note the sarcasm here). So I thought, I know, the amount to be put on the card has been decided now, so I'm quicker just buying a new card, paying another £5 fee and putting the full gift amount on it, as then I'd only have to wait the registration 3-5 days. Did this, and then tried to register the new card only to be told that because it had the same mobile number on this registration as was on the original that it couldn't be done!! Called the helpful customer service again, to be told that they would now need to send this off to Prime HQ to see if the "block" can be removed on the registration. Oh and that I might have to provide ID and address verification for this to be done!!! I currently have to wait 3-5 days before they decide if they will lift the block and whether I am going to have to provide ID etc. An absolute joke, the one time I didn't do my research on product reviews and I've been completely bitten in the *ss :( If any has any suggestions as to what I can, all options considered!!

Heading says it all, they screw you around, set the Ombudsman on them. It will cost them money to answer a case and every complaint will help to get their license revoked. The financial ombudsman service is free to use and they are very helpful. Your complaint can go back 6 years.

“My deposited money is inaccessible - avoid Prime Card!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 280Dempsey on 17/04/2015

I deposited a few hundred pounds onto my Prime Card at the Post Office just like their customer staff recommended when I rang them. Firstly I was given the run around by Prime Card for several weeks as they told me the Post Office hadn't deposited the money. After wasting hours contacting the Post Office repeatedly etc. in the end it was discovered it was Prime Card's mistake! Anyhow, then I was advised to register. As soon as I registered, I receive an instant automated email from IDT Prime Card saying: "We are unable to complete your upgrade request. Our records indicate you have an existing Prime Card in use. We are only able to provide one Prime Card per customer." Completely not true. I've never used Prime Card before. Therefore the money I've deposited on my card can't be accessed. Frozen. The helpline is a premium rate number and the customer staff are awful, always passing the buck. Prime Card's charges are exorbitant. Their red tape and bureaucratic requirements are ridiculous... about 15 steps before you can start using your card - if you're lucky, otherwise your money is trapped as many people have commented. Far less hassle and headache to get a debit or credit card from a bank or card company; and much more secure. As many people are commenting, this is not a reliable card. Avoid Prime Card like the plague as you say.

“Robbed me”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jpaula386 on 01/04/2015

I have used one of these cards before to pay for a couple of apps.A few days ago my brother bought one after I recommended prime. He was busy so I tried to activate it for him and was told I already have a card and would have to send them id for them to release the funds on this card.I explained that the card was suppose to be a gift for my brother and it would be in his name and he does not have a card in his name, but they refuse to activate the card.I haven't had any reply from 6 emails I have sent.I had to phone a premium number to speak to rude customer service reps. The security number on these cards are hard to see and you have to phone premium enquiry number.Ive lost £50 on the card,I spent about £5 on calls and nearly a week. There are a lot of safer ways to spend your money.beware

“Ripoff - they "block" and keep your funds”

★☆☆☆☆

written by qmBender33 on 06/09/2014

After using the card happily for 3-4 years, they "block" the card ( just after I had added considerable funds of course ) and refuse to unblock without unavailable documentation ID, proof of residence etc. Call centre very unheplful. Basically they have stolen my money.

Same here. They take the money first at the counter, then add the requirements afterward when you register - in my case they took £65. The reason - when registering, my wife had the same address, used my email and they say only one card per person... and she may be me! They sent an initial email but no response to my reply. I will not call because that is off the record, and therefore to their advantage - they can say you sound suspicious and use that as a reason to keep the money. If you only email, they cannot because the record is there.
I have ID etc but I will never give it out as it is an Identity Fraud kit for any one of their employees to misuse. Only a fool trusts strangers, and these people do not seem trustworthy at all.

Similar experience here. Never had a problem with any other card in my life, but Prime Card put every obstacle in your path to enable you to access your money. I lost a few hundred pounds that they took from me. Complete waste of time.

“PIN Number not visible”

★☆☆☆☆

written by duncandunnit on 07/03/2014

Hello, I have purchased a few cards for my kids over the last 4 months. The maximum you can have on the card before you register it is £300. What I have found so far in the 8 Prime Payment Cards purchased (for a fiver each) the pin number that comes with the Prime Payment Card, you have to peel back a flap and then gently scrape off a coating to reveal a PIN number. The PIN number should be 4 digits but when you peel back the flap and gently scrape off the coating you get to see only 3 digits as the forth digit is out of frame.... when they print the pins they do not centred it thus it is not visible. This leads to me having to call Prime and that is a premium rate call. All in all I believe since it has happened now so many times that this Prime Payment Card PIN visibility concept is just so that punters call them, put you on hold etc and gain from the premium rate phone call.

“IDT PRIME rip offs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MrWong on 15/02/2014

I ordered something from Amazon and was later told it was out of Stock. Fine can I have my money back please. Was told by Amazon that they dont actually take the money just put a hold on it, money still wasn't being released ! I got Amazons bank to send IDT PRIME a fax saying they were not going to draw on the funds, twice ! IDT basically gave a me a load of Bull about the cancellation request has to come from the original bank, this is even after Amazon's 2nd fax telling them the name of the bank involved, reference numbers etc. Net result they are telling me they are going to keep my money for 31 days, probably the legal maximum length of time they can. If you include the horrendous costs that you incur using this card and very bad attitude of the help desk when you ring for help this is one pre-paid card I urge everyone to avoid like the plague

“Avoid IDT Prime cards”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/07/2013

IDT Prime PAYG cards should be avoided like the plague. I used one for a while for infrequent, simple and small online transaction purposes purely for security reasons. When it expired in Dec 2012 they failed to send a replacement card like the first time. I had to ring to find out why and they told me I had to buy another card. I refused and requested a refund of the small amount left on the card which I couldn't redeem. They told me I had to post the card to the Channel Islands which I refused to do because of the hassle and cost of registered post, hardly worth it to claim back a small amount. I emailed further a few times, all going unanswered and in the end told them to stuff the money and that I would in return notify the public of the disgusting treatment of a loyal customer. I use Virgin now, it works great. So the moral of the story is avoid IDT Prime cards, they will only turn you over.

After 2 days making many calls still waiting for my card to unblock. Customer service team is worse I have ever encounter here. They are trying to eat my money ! It's scam and should be block by FSA.

“I received a pin number for a Prime Payment Card in...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/12/2010

I received a pin number for a Prime Payment Card in Dec 2010. I had no idea what this was as I had no such card. Quick research on the internet revealed:
- It is "linked "to Mastercard though run by a separate company IDT something
- It seems to be a very expensive prepaid card, with charges to load cash and to use it (though none of this is mentioned in my letter)
I concluded it was a "legitimate" scam along the lines of the scams that caused the baning system to nearly collapse and will be sending details to the FSA and suggesting the company be investigated for irregular trading practices.

I have just purchased one of these cards. now on the front it says from the 2nd February 2015, you have to register before you can use your money on the card. I went online to register and have found out now that this takes three days. Nowhere on the packet does it say you have to wait three days . I telephoned them and was told to wait. Surely this cannot be right. Can anyone help please? I feel like I've been tricked :(
