Have to say i rue the day i ever took this service out i am trying to cancel the service but with out any joy i have 3 boxes up to now and what really drives me mad is the failed recording messages that they send you. The box also freezes. When you phone them to complain they do a download correction which results in all the saved content being lost for ever i hope to have BT Vision soon they are doing a deal for £18 which includes sport and films plus
you don't have to wait till the programmes… Read Full Review

TV Content poor, when the set top box packed up, I didn't bother to replace it, I tried cancelling the subscription, unbelievable attitude, would not cancel until I had agreed to speak to their customer retention team, none available & would ring back. Wrote to company, cancelling, but money still taken from the Credit Card, rang again, no record of the letter!!!! Subscription not cancelled as their customer retention team had tried ringing but had been unable to contact me. Despite explaining… Read Full Review

Total load of rubbish, if the PVR was more reliable then it might be worth considering, the PVRs are top up tv main problem, crashing, freezing, corrupt recordings, there is no point having content some may want to watch when the hardware does not allow you to watch it, if I had known how bad the PVR was going to be I would never of bought it not to mention the money wasted on subscriptions and phone calls to top up tv CS full of promises that have never materialised, there are much better PVRs… Read Full Review

Written on: 15/09/2008 by chrisjayuk (6 reviews written)

I was a top up customer from there launch in 2003 and loved the service when it was live channels, I signed up for the Anytime service and stayed with it for a year before finally giving in and moving to BT Vision.
The Anytime box is sooo bug ridden, I got only 50% of my downloads while with them because the box decided they where corrupt! It missed so many recordings that I went back to my DVD recorder because it coundn't be trusted.
The customer support is appalling, no help really.

Written on: 20/08/2008

Top up tv is cheap alternative to sky or virgin. But definately is NOT an equivalent. It only offers 3 channels live. The rest are downloaded over night and drastically reduce the available disk drive. Personally I didn't take the top up option and have instead a pvr at a great price of 89.99 for 160gB machine. One major drawback is it is prone to freezing, requiring it to be unplugged. A software upgrade has since exacerbated rather than solved problems as it now permanently mutes on occasion… Read Full Review

“Top Up TV Anytime and Top Up TV DTR ”

Top Up TV Anytime and Top Up TV DTR
Ordering and Delivery -
Top up TV can be ordered online or via phone. You can also purchase in retailers such as Argos, Curry's etc.

I choose to order mine online and it was not the best experience. The online ordering system told me it was unable to process my request and I had to ring up. When I did in fact ring up they told me my order had not been completed and I couldn't do it over the phone as it was a special offer.

Written on: 11/01/2008 by pablo bristol (2 reviews written)

Excellent choice for people (who like me) hate lengthly contracts as it is a 'pay as you go' service. Also a good alternative to Sky if you're in a rented property or not in a cabled area.

Top Up TV Anytime offers just the right mix of programmes to suit most people's needs and the equipment is very easy to use. If you like movies, Picture Box offers a good choice of movies which, cost wise, works out about 17p per movie.

Worth giving a go as the equipment is very reasonable and you get a

Written on: 15/10/2007 by Lee1984 (2 reviews written)

I have had Top Up TV Anytime for almost a year now, and am 90% pleased with the service. I pre-ordered my box, so I was subjected to the worst of the problems the box has suffered through it's software development. A year on and the box is almost flawless. All of the initial problems are now gone, and the software team is devoted to making this box the best on the market by introducing new features and actively participating in discussions with customers on public forums.

I don't really know what to add to what the last reviewer said in their excellent review, so I'm really just here to defend what I think is a great little service.
There are so many people on here that are quick to slam Top Up TV Anytime, but they all have one thing in common, they are comparing it to digital TV services from SKY, Virgin media, BT and others. It is natural, but wrong that they should do so as TUTV Anytime is nothing like them at all, the other services are for people who want… Read Full Review

“Having been a subscriber to Top Up TV since July 2004,...”

Written on: 02/09/2007 by ironeagleuk (2 reviews written)

Having been a subscriber to Top Up TV since July 2004, I was pleased with the original service, and was slightly disappointed to hear that Five wanted some of the broadcast space back and that Top Up TV had to evolve into an Overnight VOD service. Also I was a bit disappointed to learn that my current PVR would not be suited to the service, and that a new PVR (DTR) would be required. However, since receiving my DTR in December 2006, I've been pleasantly surprised by both the technology and the… Read Full Review

This guy is obviously very keen on TopUP TV, and has gone around criticising everyone else who doesn't think the same. He's also the only one to have a so called "EXPERT" review and the explanation of why on this site is unclear. I would consider their actions at the least suspicious, and it certainly casts doubt on how much I trust this website.

The full screen adverts appear at the very most twice a week. They appear when you take the DTR out of standby. The banner ads aren't at all intrusive, and appear in the top right corner of the screen, and do not obstruct anything. Both types of adverts provide useful information about up and coming progs on the Top Up TV Anytime, Setanta & Picturebox. Not only do they provide information about the service, they have also been used for useful information, like when the clocks changed to British Summer Time.

It's worth mentioning that the Top Up TV+ PVR carries full-screen advertising, which displays when you switch the box on, and banner advertisements throughout the menu system, which change at 2-3 second intervals. Rather intrusive and very annoying.

Ironeagleuk's Response to ironeagleuk's Review

Written on: 04/09/2007

I have no connection with Top Up TV apart from being a subscriber.

I have commented on other reviews as I do feel that they have been unfair in some respect as per my comments left.

I have mentioned in my review that there are faults with the service and hardware, but these are only minor niggles in my opinion, and are to be expected with a new service. For a comparison, if you want one, Sky+ has been around for about 4 years, and there are still problems with it. Top Up TV Anytime only launched 9 months ago.

As a person on a limited budget, and unable to have cable or satellite, I do think that Top Up TV Anytime is a viable alternative in this day and age of Digital TV.

Reviews are given expert status at the moderator's discretion. If someone has made an effort to be extra helpful, for example. Some days there may be two expert reviews, other days there may be 15.

Also, sometimes different people may pick up the comments for moderation at different times. Staff always do their best to pick up on fake reviews or companies reviewing their own product. Often times, moderators spend a LOT of time finding a link between suspect reviews etc.

Rest assured that reviewcentre.com is as impartial as humanly possible, but if you have any issues, use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of any page and it will be looked in to.

Written on: 10/08/2007 by CALDE001 (1 review written)

Don't subscribe unless you realise that all they supply is one or two programmes per channel per evening. i.e. you can look at the TV guide in the paper and plan to watch that good movie only to find that Top-Up-TV have decided only to send one from the whole days viewing, and obviously not the one you want!
A really poor selection that's not worth the money. At £10.80 per month for a license for BBC1 & 2 et al, you get much better value!

I found this review unhelpful because... comparing to the license fee is pointless, as that is a requirement by law. If you say that then you might as well say that Sky & Virgin Media are bad value for money.

Really bad customer service that are rude and expect you to know everything (customer service: that's what it's there for!). Also, channels are only available between certain hours when you are least likely to be watching TV. I would not recommend this product to anybody as the experience we had was awful.

I disagree with this review because... you can use the DTR any time you like. The Anytime refers to the downloaded programmes anyway. You can watch the VoD content any time you like.
