Very nice place for a local Indian restaurant. I've been here a couple of times with friends and I can say that the food is truly amazing. The menu is wide and the prices are quite reasonable. I am satisfied and will surely visit again.

This was my first time tasting Indian food and now I think it is my favourite. This is all thanks to Benares Indian Restaurant.

Dining out really doesn't get better than Benares Indian Restaurant. A meal for two with wine will set you back around £150 but it's worth every penny. The food is absolutely superb, i can not rate it highly enough.
The staff are knowledgable, polite and friendly. Forget any Indian restaurant you may have visited in the past, this place is in a league of it's own.

We are retired so watch our pennies but enjoy good food. We went to Benares for the set lunch which included one drink. The food was delicious and as you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant well presented. It was fantastic value and we will certainly go back. The staff were all very friendly and attentive and at no time made us feel like the "poor relations" for opting for the set lunch.

Service at Benares Indian Restaurant is first rate, food is out of this world. There are arguments about its "authenticity". These are spurious, as are all arguments about "authenticity". The food is derived from the Indian tradition, and is as good as you would expect Michelin starred food to be, if not better. The sous-sommelier who attended to our needs really made our evening. The service was faultless, you barely noticed it happening, and everything arrived at exactly the right time. Cost a small fortune, and every penny well-spent. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We visited Benares Indian Restaurant with one other family. The host asked the quantity of food in one of the few appetizers and the waiter curtly told him to order ahead and he will tell him if the order was ok. I asked if there are any authentic dishes on the menu (not having rosemary or risotto) to be told we are modern Indian food and not a curry house and we put rosemary in most of our dishes! At the end the of the dinner we were asked how the food was and I remarked that the prawns were quite dry to which the waiter went on the explain how it was cooked. I looked at him in bewilderment thinking wow what a justification for dry prawns. Definitely a no-go place on my list.

I had the tasting menu and it was fantastic. All courses were beautifully presented and a delight to eat. I cannot believe that someone is suggesting that a McDonald's would have been preferable! Not a chance! As for it not being authentic, I don't doubt for a minute that this food isn't being served in Indian homes as the preparation would be far too time consuming. It's Atul's personal take on what he terms as 'New British Indian' and it is well worth every penny in my mind.

Please do not go to Benares Indian Restaurant, I am taking the time to write this review so that you do not waste your money on what I can only describe as unauthentic, overpriced and tasteless food. You are better of at your local curry house. I am of Indian origin and can confirm this food tastes like nothing you would get in a traditional Indian home. It was my 1st wedding anniversary and it was spoilt having gone here. The service was slow, the toilets were dirty and some of the staff appeared sloppy. I order the paneer and the Holumi cheese - my husband had the tikka and the lamb rolls. I found them tasteless, oily and bland! My bill was £130 and I refused to pay. They knocked the bill down to £85 - they wanted me to pay the service charge but I do not feel I got any type of service! Drinks were slow, there was no flow to food or drinks orders. After complaining about the food I was made to wait 25 mins for my bill! Do not go here - trust me! I am an Indian!

Benares Indian Restaurant manages to be unique without departing from the Indian Curry tastes we know and love. I've been to Benares twice so far. The last time was six months ago, yet when I remember the mixed tandoors starter, my mouth starts watering. Pity I don't live in London, or this would be my frequent dining destination.
Highly recommended.

I found this review helpful because...the reviewer is right on mark. This place is sub-mediocre at best
