If you are short on the budget for hardware, D-link usually does the budget limitation however it does have some limitations with compatibilities with many brands, that would be the trade off for getting it at a lower price. All you have to do is check first if it would suit your system as well as the environment that you are in. Nothing is perfect, but you can be wise, and D-link price is a wise decision just better make a good assessment first so that you have a good match with what you have.

I bought this unit over a cheaper NAS box as it had the internal usb printserver... however I couldnt get it to work with my Epson Photo 950.
I tried to contact Epson for support but got the following reply stated that D-Link were sorry to inform me, but my Epson printer is not on the compatibillity list for DNS-323. Hence we are not able to provide me with support in that matter.
So if you want one of these units check the printer list on their website! I do not recommend the DNS-323.

Basically I needed to store video files from the camcorder out of my laptop hard drive which was getting full. So I chose this D-Link DNS-323 "enclosure" so it can be attached to my router and the other computer in the house can access the files as well.
Hard Drive install was amazingly easy! Remove lid - insert drive - close lid, this is it! I still laugh when I think about it!
h/d formatting is automatic as soon as the drive is detected.
Only trouble, if you decide to upgrade the firmware (recommended), don't forget to upgrade the so called "easy search" utility as well, or it won't pick up the enclosure...
I also had issues with the dyn DNS so it took a while for me to get the FTP server to work, but now that I've figured everything out, it's just great. Relatives can download the video files straight from the source, no need to burn 10 CDs.
