“One of the Best!!!”

★★★★★

written by crazylegs1326 on 07/06/2018

I bought this Crossroads XC Expert in 2006. I've put at least 15000 miles on it since then, mostly hard pack bike trails and roads. Have had routine maintenance once a year in the spring. Nothing has gone wrong with this bike, changed the brake pads and chain once. Paid $770, best money I've ever spent on a bike hands down. I doubt if I'll ever buy a better bike for the money! Very stiff, great front suspension, and very comfortable upright geometry.

“Turned off by Specialized”

★★☆☆☆

written by don0017 on 02/11/2016

Recently just got the bike (one for me and the step-through for my wife); Ordered a 2017 Crossroads, but instead was given 2016 models. 2017 are listed to come with presta valves, and 2016 are with schrader valves. No biggie on the valves, bike shop I got it from is a "no return" policy. Front derailleur wasn't tuned properly (another no biggie). Top tube is pretty high up, if you are on the low end of their recommended size based on your height, expect to feel that top tube touching more than just your leg. Wife's rear brake felt stiff, her hand was cramping just trying to squeeze the brake lever. Inspected the rear brakes; cable housing going to noodle was under a lot of bent stress due to placement of cable holders on the step through frame. Removed the rear brake frame bolt, and out came the adapter frame bolt with it, and I find rust in it. Rust isn't something you would expect from a "new" bike. Bike needs to be quality checked from factory first, as well as bolts torqued properly (instead of over-torqued), and have their parts checked for rust.

“Save Your Receipt...”

★★★★★

written by on 10/10/2015

Specialized has a lifetime frame warranty, provided you can prove you are the original owner. After 21 years and over 15,000 miles my beloved 1994 vintage Crossroads had its bottom bracket weld snap. As far as catastrophic frame failures go, it was minor - I was even able to ooze the last mile to my destination. Still, I was in the market for a new bike when a dealer informed me that the warranty might still be good. I managed to find the original owners manual with date of purchase, and a 21 year old annual credit card summary. That proved sufficient - a couple of weeks later the local dealer presented me with a brand new Crossroads Sport. It has taken a bit of getting used to (a larger frame, but then it is actually a better fit for my height) and I probably wouldn't have picked out Road Hazard Orange as a frame color, but it certainly shows up! The only serious issue was untensioned rear spokes - after a few miles the wheel was flopping about. While the dealer would have fixed this at no additional charge, it took less time to retrue it myself than take it in and leave it for a few days (I commute every day). After 600 miles it has settled in nicely, and I'm very happy with it. Total cost was $60 assembly labor - and they pulled all the bits and pieces off the old one too. I miss my old crossroads, but this is a quality replacement. The moral of the story is that Specialized makes pretty good bikes and stand behind their products. Nothing lasts forever, though, so save your receipts...

I have a 3 year old crossroads. took an hiatus from biking, so it was on the back porch here in the philippines for about 9 months. Other than a chain whose pins were tight (was able to save the chain though) and a need for derailleur adjustment, the bike works swimmingly. Glad to see that specialized backed the product you had.

“review update”

★★★★★

written by on 15/05/2015

I have now had my bicycle for just about 6 months. It has become the most frequently ridden bicycle since my childhood. The one minor quibble i have had was regarding spoes breaking or loosening up, when i brought it in for a tuneup they trued the wheel and tightened up my spokes for me, I have now developed a habit that involves taking my bicycle in for service primarily to tighten my spokes. Most other things on the bicycle are functioning very well. derailleurs shift smoothly, the ride is comfy and high spirited. As i have stated in my initial review this is a great ride and it makes me want to ride more. How many bicycles are whispering those words in your ear???????? PS: Not a bicycle fetish

“a great bike for well paced rides”

★★★★★

written by walkman2015 on 24/10/2014

I have only had mine for a week but in a short period of time i have quite pleased with this bicycle's performance. My previous bicycle was a trek pure 7 speed cruiser one of most comfortable bicycles i have ever ridden. But the limitations of a seven speed became evident in my weekly group rides. This was not a racers club but riders that maintained a moderate pace that my pure was not geared for. I bought this bike not to be a racer, but to enable me to stay with the group. I am happy to say that i have been able to do that without killing myself, after a few adjustments to seat and stem i have a great bike for cruising, for pacing and for getting a little bit more out of a workout. It is in my opinion the Specialized crossroads Sport is a very versatile ride friendly bicycle. I liked the way it handled, was great on some inclines and trigger shifters were crisp and clean.

“Light,Comfortable well made”

★★★★★

written by pjryan51 on 01/01/2014

I bought my Specialized Crossroad Comfort in October 2012 and it has been the best bike I have owned. I was mainly looking for a bike for my regular commute on mix of roads and canal paths. I love the more upright position of this bike and even though it does lack disc brakes it does feel like the money has been spent on the areas that matter. I was particularly looking for a 7 speed bike as I feel bikes with two set of gears are heavier and I never use most of them. The range of the gears is pretty much perfect, the lowest gear is a massive cog on the back wheel and makes steeper hills much easier and the range of the other 6 ideal for all conditions I have faced. My only complaint was this bike is now on at couple of online shops for £240.(note this is for the 2013 model). I paid £300 and thought it was a good deal, at £240 it's fantastic.

“Best Hybrid I've owned”

★★★★★

written by Skilled_cyclist_13 on 28/02/2013

I got mine second hand and i love it, i have tried a lot of different types of bikes, but this one is the best hybrid i've had or tried. I would recommend this to anyone looking to buy a hybrid. Works well for just going around the block or across town.

“fantastic commuter bike!”

★★★★★

written by bmw e30 on 27/10/2012

I haven't owned mine long, having bought it secondhand for just £80 on eBay I have spent about an hour greasing up the head bearings, lubing cables and adjusting the brakes. All very easy. This is going to be my winter hack, the saddle is very comfy, gears although basic shimano acera group function well. Riding position is very upright, I have a 54cm size frame which measures about 18.5 inches from centre of crank to top of top tube. Fits my 5'8 height perfectly. Forks are steel, black in colour with the frame being grey colour. With 700 size racing bike size wheels it rolls very good, and having solid forks every bit of effort pedalling is transferred into forward motion.

Bmw E30's Response to bmw e30's Review

UPDATE!
Have used this for commuting to work this week, 4 miles each way. Very impressed with bike, tho at 27lb its not the lightest bike, but it is very bombproof! Gears being acera? are basic yet function perfectly and reliably, brakes are powerful even with brake blocks 80% worn. Tires i have fitted are Crossroads 700c x 38, a general xcommuter tire, 80-100psi rating, i run at 85psi. Roll ok and very grippy with a 'wet' tread pattern as opposed to a more slick type tire.
Overall a great bike for very little money, should last many years. Not too bumpy even being a rigid setup, seat is soft and comfortable.

Have owned my Crossroads Elite for 3 years, logged over 9,200 km (5,400 miles)and it's still like new. Absolutely a great bike, great components, trouble free and a pleasure to ride and care for. The Elite upgrade package including. Armadillo tires are money well spent. I only regret not discovering Specialized years earlier.

Had the bike for about twelve years (where has the time gone?) and find it a joy to ride. Only problem is, a bit difficult to adjust the gears which sometimes slip. Blame myself for it, though as I fell off it a few days after I got it - sober as a judge but just getting used to a bike again. Like it so much, just bought a second identical one on ebay for my partner

Have a Specialized crossroads for a few years, use it mainly for commuting part off-road and some rough paths. It's a great bike and a smooth ride. I cycle through all sorts of weather no problem and it's easy to maintain. The special tyres that come as standard really do prevent punctures.

Love my Specialized Crossroads Sport. I've had it for 5 years and use it for around town commuting as well as weekend outings. It's easy to maintain and has held up very well. It definitely isn't sporty and is heavy. That makes it nice and stable and suits me fine. If you're older, wiser and looking for a reliable set of wheels, you can't do better for the price.

I have never had so many problems with a bike in my life. Do not buy this. I found the rims to be weak, the gears were bad and the bike wass just heavy. I was a comfortable ride but that doesnt make up for the other shortcomings. I would not recommend the Specialized Crossroad hybrid bike.

you would reasonably think that a negative experience like that would foster some in depth reasoning behind the negative comments expressed. gears were bad, bike was heavy maybe the info was a little too specific for me
