“Broke down every three months”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Adann133 on 23/11/2019

I bought one in 20000 it cost me 999 pounds brand new and I had it for four years but every three months from when I bought it broke down I gave up in the end it was OK for washing but I found it worse on the whites as I had had a candy washer dryer previously which washed better.

Oh no! My machine also has the F11 fault. I have had the machine since 2000 and it has been fantastic. Never had a fault before. From reading the above review it seems my only option is also to scrap and replace. Very disappointing.

There is at least one Ebay seller who is selling the failed bridge rectifier and fuse as an inexpensive kit. Bridge rectifiers are VERY common, All you need is the number off the device and don't bother Google searching it, but instead go to an electronics component seller such as mouser.com and search there. You will frequently find alternative manufacturers of device too. All you need is someone proficient with a soldering iron and knows about electrical safety. A cheap multimeter with a diode test function can be used to test the rectifier. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to do this.

“DYSON RUBBISH”

written by Alex1245 on 14/02/2013

I too am disgusted at the attitude of the DYSON company nothing but problems with cheap plastic parts breaking and costly to be repaired, having had the last repair in August 1012 on the inner door the catch has now broken and I am unable to get one to replace it as E-SPARES tell me DYSON have ceased all manufacture of parts. What a let down, how long will it be before this attitude extends to there other products....??? Steer clear of DYSON.... I fear??

“Dyson Contraratotor 2 Drum”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Misbahkhan on 13/12/2012

Received a letter from Dyson about a month ago stating that they will now no longer be sending Dyson Engineers to fix this particular model as they have stopped making spare parts for it..How wonderful! They did how ever give me a £50 voucher to help pay for a new washing machine..... I have had every fault under the sun and every year i have had to call out the Dyson Engineers and virtually every part has been replaced even the twin drum..I paid £900 in 2001 and i expected a lot better for my money...My Dyson vacum (Animal DC08) has faired no better, again every single part has been replaced...No more James Dyson appliances for us,Never!!!!

I also bought my machine over ten years ago and have had every fault possible, paying £99 each year for a string of engineers to come out. Last visit the engineer replaced everything he could even though not needed and declared it to be as good as a new machine. (Joined the two drums together, new pump, heater, board etc. One month on fault developed 'not emptying' and I have to keep turning it off and on to continue. Other messages appear randomly which are meaningless. They no longer service it so I am looking round for a new machine now. I paid over £1000 for the CR01 Flowcheck, I got it from Powerhouse and paid a premium which was supposed to be returned as cashback, Powerhouse then went bust so it ended up costing an arm and a leg.
Now it's just fit for 'recycling' when I buy another machine, waste of money.

Yes, i also received this £50 voucher and have today telephoned Dyson' helpline, due to concern the voucher (although valid until October 2013) was to purchase a new machine from Comet who have since ceased trading, only to be told from the Dyson helpline that there was nothing more they could do. This is very disapointing and not what i would have expected from such a valued name like Dyson. A BIG DISAPOINTMENT !!!

Roberpmorley's Response to Misbahkhan's Review

I bought the cr01 in 2002 and initially thought what a fantastic washing machine and was looking forward to many years of faultless service (every previous washing machine had lasted 15-20 years without major problems/expenses and they were all cheap ones, not a adjective one could use for a Dyson). Within a year it had a fault - still it was repaired under warranty - but every year thereafter (and usually to within a week) another fault would occur. I complained each time that I had expected a washing machine with a Dyson name on it to be fault-free and eventually in the third year gave up with it. Its replacement, a much cheaper machine, has remained fault free!!! Do I think Dyson are expensive ****? - you bet!

“Bought the Dyson CR01 Contra Rotator in Jan 2005 just...”

★★★★☆

written by on 10/05/2009

Bought the Dyson CR01 Contra Rotator in Jan 2005 just after my little boy was born. Before that we had a Hotpoint Ultima, but wasn't impressed with its wash performance, as there never seemed to be enough water going into the drum for the wash cycle. Clothes were still smelling sweaty, particularly my gym t-shirts, even after a 50 degree wash cycle. I complained to Hotpoint and got nowhere. So decided to sell it 2nd hand and bought the Dyson. It's brilliant, it washes a massive load in half the time of other washers (good now that I've got 3 kids) and it also looks funky too.

The only recommendations I have to make, which I have pointed out to Dyson are.........you can't change the programme part way through, i.e. if you select a 40 degree wash and start the machine but then want to change to a 30 degree wash, you can't, without cancelling the existing programme. In doing this, the drum drains of the wash water along with the detergent. You can add/reduce rinses, so I don't know why the designers didn't think of this.

It would be a good idea to know how long there is left to the end of the programme. Our Hotpoint used to countdown to the end of the programme.

The rinse cycles are a little short. As soon as the drum has filled with water, it empties and proceeds to the spin cycle. This is ok, but for the final rinse, where most people use fabric conditioner, it would be better to have a slightly longer rinse, so that the conditioner can penetrate the fabrics, making them smell fresher.

I also find, that because the drum is so big, washing one small item can sometimes be pointless.

Apart from that it's a great machine. Being able to open the door as soon as the cycle finishes is good. I've spoken to Dyson and they are researching to develop another machine that they hope will be more popular with the consumer market.

Had the Dyson CR01 for 5 years and would recommend this machine (if still available) due to its ease of use, load, hand wash cycle and duvet cycle. Only had two faults - the first was due to a foreign object (bike spanner) clogging up the mechanism. Engineer out within a couple of days and sorted - no charge. The second, and more serious was the contrarotator stopping. Again engineer out within a couple of days and no charge.

It's longevity is the biggest thing I was astounded with. bought it back in 2001 after perseverance from the missus. "Dyson are great".. My views were they are overpriced plastic toys but boy was I wrong. This is by the most worthwhile electronic purchase I have made in my lifetime (I'm 60yrs old now)

written by roseydoro on 12/11/2008

I bought my Dyson CR01 Contrarotator in 1998 or 1999 and paid just over a 1000 pounds for it through my home catalogue. It was new on the market and I wanted the best. It has been wonderful over the last 9 years and still going strong. Dyson have constantly insured it for me, and under the constant extended warranties, and insurance cover they have never complained about it's age, and replaced the doors, the motors, the soap dish, the drum, in fact, other than the shell of it, which I might add, is still in perfect condition, I still have a perfect washing machine which is used twice minimum every day of the week . Thankyou Dyson. If ever I had to buy a new washing machine I would buy exactly the same machine again.

The Dyson CR01 Contrarotator is a great machine, still going strong after 7 years, easy to clean and service, huge capacity. only problem been things in the coin trap and I had to take the pump out to clean it once 'cos one of the kids had left some shoelaces in a pocket and they'd got into the pump.

Don't buy the Dyson CR01 Memory is my advice. I have a dyson and I have had problem after problem with it and unfortunatly dyson customer services do not care at the faulty products they sell.
Problems are as follows,
clothes torn apart, flooding in kitchen, drum fell out twice, fault f15 on panel, fault f11 on panel, fault 3 on panel e.t.c.
I can sit here all day and list the faults my dyson washing machine has had but Im sure you have made your mind up by now.

written by youngerap on 06/01/2008

I head a family of six. Prior to buying the Dyson, we would go through one washing machine every 14 - 15 months. We have tried them all - Zanussi, Hotpoint, Servis, etc. After the warranty expired, so did the washing machine and the repair cost simply did not make sense - it was cheaper to buy a new machine. We have now had the Dyson CR01 for more than 5 years. It is a brilliant machine and, when it breaks down, I call out Dyson and pay the 85. They fix it and also look for anything else that requires attention. Since new, I have called out Dysons three or four times. Until such time as Dysons release a new washing machine, I shall keep calling them out to repair this one - no other manufacturer comes close to the Dyson wash quality

I'm really disappointed as I was expecting the Dyson CR01 Memory to last for a while - I really liked the design and my kitchen was planned around it - now I have a great big hole in my life (kitchen) and it can`t be replaced. Stay clear, you will be disappointed and after you have had a Dyson it's really hard to go back to conventional washing machines. 600 pounds wont buy me anything as big.

We have had the Dyson CR01 Memory washing machine for almost three years, which we paid 1999,00 euro for!

The control panel has been changed twice, and now we have another problem. Once we had to wait two weeks for an engineer. That is much too long for us - a family of 7 people. We are very disappointed, as we use the machine at least once a day.

Had my CR01 for 15 months now and it is absolutley brilliant. You get loads in (7kg)and it come out really clean first time,The main advantages we have found are speed of wash, capacity and wash performance.Had one minor problem with the soap dish and an engineer came out within 2 hours and replaced the whole assy not just the cracked part,Excellant back up.The engineer knew the product and had the parts to fix it there and then. Our previous washer a servis it took 3 days to get some one out and a week for the parts.Yes it is expensive, but worth it for the aftercare

You are very lucky to get an engineer from Dyson Washing Machines out within 2 hours. Had an engineer out on Monday to do a 'free upgrade', machine was working perfectly. Just tried to do a load now and it keeps telling me to close outer door. I have phoned the 'helpline' and they have told me I will have to wait until 2 August for an engineer to come out and rectify a problem that was not there before their engineer came! I have gone mad and I am now waiting for someone to call me back.

3 identical faults in 3 years, almost exactly a year apart - certainly not overused (2 weekly washes for 35 weeks a year) and not overfilled - assured each time that the problem is finally solved but obviously not - not happy and at the moment would not recommend anyone to purchase a Dyson washing machine.

Good performance but not impressed with the constant problems that require Dyson to sort it out... wouldn't recommend them at moment. Do you know how to cancel the f14??

Whilst the Dyson CR01 Memory washing machine boasts all these wonderful facilities, it can hardly be considered reliable when you only manage to get 1 wash out of the machine.
The old Hoover machine we bought five years ago second hand for £120 is by far a better and more reliable machine.
Obtaining a service engineer when it is suitable for you is a nightmare.
I recommend not to purchase this machine, for those that have I hope your having better luck than me. I was very happy with my DC01 but more than just annoyed at the CR01 mem.
