Nostalgic Environment, Great Service
This hotel is from the time when Alexandria was a wealthy city. It has been restored lovingly. The elevators are a bit eccentric, which only adds to its charm.
It is located on the corniche so most rooms have views of the sea. The breakfast is good. The free wi fi is good everywhere except outside on the 6th floor restaurant terrace. There was no problem with my booking except at first they thought I was there for fewer days than my reservation said, but that was quickly cleared up. They said I had used a credit card to book with that didn't work--which wasn't the case--I used the credit card I always used--but also quickly resolved
The staff is wonderful. Every thing I could have wished for, the staff was available to help me with. They translated shopping requests into Arabic for taxi drivers and ran out to buy batteries for me. The food on the terrace restaurant is good and I thought, reasonable. They serve Egyptian beer and wine. The view from the 6th floor restaurant is incredible, both outside and inside.
The things I liked best were the view from the 6th floor for breakfast and dinner, and the friendliness of the staff.
The only thing I didn't like was the noise. Because it is located on the corniche, it is incredibly noisy at night. The taxis never stop honking. I didn't discover the air conditioning until I was there for several days, so at night I had to shut all the windows and sweat. I suppose if you can sleep with air conditioning, you can close all the windows and reduce the noise and not get too warm, but I don't like to sleep with air conditioning, so I had to close all the windows and use ear plugs to get to sleep at all. After a few nights, I got used to the traffic.
