Wanted to liven up patio slabs so bought Sandtex Microseal smooth masonry paint in Sandstone, Mid Stone and Plymouth Grey. Sandstone turned out to be off-white with a creamy tone. Mid Stone was more like a sandstone (nothing like the tin, but ok for the patio). I bought a little sample tin of Plymouth Grey to check the colour: it turned out to be off-white with a strong blue tinge, nothing like the picture but just about ok for the patio. So I went and bought a full size tin of the stuff which I find is off-white with the slightest blue tinge. Nothing like the picture or the sample paint. I now have a load of off-white paint. Any takers?

Not solvent based, which is good, but completely rubbish - poor coverage, absolutely not rapid dry (was damp for hours) and a waste of money. I think Sandtext are known for their masonry paint, but give the undercoat/primer a miss.

Painted top of the house with sage green exterior masonry paint. Within two years, the green started to “bleed” It seemed the green pigmentation, separated from the paint and it look awful. Sandtex did not want to comment on this problem and said it was my fault. Yes right, they did not know, or more to the point did not want to know! I will not be using Sandtex paints again, nor recommend it to anybody else for that matter. Go for the Dulux range of exterior paints, I did on my porch columns, still as good as when they were painted and they were done at the same time as my walls on the same western side.

Speaking of the sandtex white masonry paint. This product is a thin a a skeleton that hasn't had anything to eat for a millennia. After 3 coats on pale shades of green and apricot it is STILL patchy. I do not recommend. I like: the fact that I will NEVER BUY this product again. On the other hand the black is very good and only (still) needs 2 coats. As for the lighthouses on the tin. The guys that use this rubbish to coat a lighthouse would probably have been swept away before finishing doing 35464 coats of the damn building. Just saying

We bought Sandtex as we wanted a good quality masonry paint. How wrong we were. After only a couple of months the paint started blistering and peeling off. Apart from the cost and the time the mess of all these bits littering the garden and making such a mess. My advice to anyone who is thinking of buying this masonary paint, is don't. Only given a one star as unable to give it a zero

I have purchased two tins of this paint and after storing it in the shed over winter period it is useless. Cannot stir it or paint with it. According to Sandtex it has to be stored in above freezing conditions, meaning both my shed and garage isn't suitable for it to be kept over winter period. Can someone please tell me how many other members of the public think, oh yes it's going to be cold over winter I must bring the Sandtex paint indoors, or perhaps a hot water bottle each night out in shed of garage. What a waste of money over two years. NEVER AGAIN. The only details it says on the tin, not to be stored in very cold conditions. Where else is anyone going to store this, surely they're not put in the living room for the winter period.

After two coats of white textured masonry paint from Sandtex, I am still getting an orange type colour coming through, and stain marks where there has been Polyfilla repairs to cracking underneath. This is quite ugly. Maybe I should have used some preparation paint first?? The beige paint seems better quality than the white. Goes on really easily.

Stumbled upon this thread, don't normally write reviews. I paint lots of exteriors, both smooth and roughcast, as a professional decorator (since 1988). My advice would be to buy the trade (rather than the retail) version. It is an excellent product which goes on easily and lasts well. Any issues with flaking will be due to insufficient or incorrect preparation. Any issues with coverage will be due to the nature of the surface. The guidelines on the tin are just that, guidelines. On heavy roughcast you will not get more than about 4 or 5 m2 per litre. Although I guess Sandtex sell lots of the retail stuff, it's not as good as the trade paint, which has more 'body' (thicker), more pigment (I suspect) and a better formulation (more resin?, more fungicide?). This means it can stand more thinning for the first coat if this is required (not always). Make sure you prep the surface properly. Don't use stabiliser unless the surface is actually chalking. Dulux and Johnstones (trade) are also good.

Used this on a number of occasions and it is a very good product - it goes on easily and is very hard wearing. In contrast to this, I bought some Sandtex front door paint, and it is the worst piant i have ever used. Sandtex - stick to doing exterior paint please!

Never buy Sandtex paint without opening the tin in the shop. The colour charts are completely wrong & are even different from the colour on the tin. As an example I purchased a stone colour , painted the whole front of my house in one go & when it was dry it turned out a pinky-purple !!!!!!!!.So that was £30 well spent & a days work. Why cant they paint some samples to put on the wall in the shop????????? - BE WARNED

Just painted our new annex with 'Cornish Cream' from the swatch this should have been very similar to the rest our house. However its not it looks a bright yellow with a hint of lime green to it. Looks horrid now taking the remainder back and exchanging it for something else. Would recommend the paint product but not this colour!

Absolutely dreadful! Only lasted six months, blew off the wall in large flakes.Costly at nearly £40 a pot. Avoid this paint like the plague!

I bought 2.5 litres of cornish cream to do masonry cills and reveals. Was most disapointed with the colour which turned out yellow, totally different from the colour indicated on the tin. Having said that it was easy to work and gave a great finish but unfortunatley I now have to re do. Unfortunatley my local stockist,B & Q, do not stock a more suitable colour.

Coverage wasn't as good as expected, in spite of pre sealing. And colour was nothing like the chart we picked up in store, OR the online examples(no surprise there though as Sandtex has a disclaimer) OR what was shown on the tin itself .. in fact it was SO different we thought maybe the wrong product was in the tin or the wrong name was on the tin!!!! Sandtex MUST get a decent colour chart for shops sorted out.

I've just covered approx 50 sq m using Sandtex Trade Smooth, It took 20 litres for 2 coats magnolia to cover a roughcast wall previously covered with chalk green sandtex. I used a car body underseal sprayer (thinned the Sandtex by 10%) then went over with a dampened brush to fill small imperfections and even out the coverage. Took 2 days. The max coverage spec on the tin of 16 sq m to the litre must have been achieved with a wafer thin covering on formica though! All in all a good finish and a very 'tolerant' product to use.
