Great For 2 Years And Then Just Starts Turning Itself Off!

Philips GC8220 Steam Generator

On to the internet to research why my wife's iron kept turning itself off I find an article that says this is a common problem caused by a faulty capacitor in irons over 2 years old and it is getting worse. Apparently if you power the iron on and look at the light and press the steam button then the light will dim if it is faulty. This is exactly what happens. Use it as a non steam iron and it stays on. GREAT - £200 for a non steam iron - what a joke!

The iron has been looked after & de-calced regularly and it is no longer fit for purpose. I am sure that EVERYONE expects an iron to last more than 2 years so this is really poor service Philips. Why did you not do a recall and replace the faulty boards? Or do you just think we will all throw it in the bin and buy another one - talk about built in obsolescence!

Before the fault started my wife loved it - now it is just a pile of junk - so are you going to do the honourable thing and repair it or replace it for free Philips or are we forced to act?

The Sale of Goods Act states that if a product proves to have an inherent fault or fails to last a reasonable time, up to 6 years in England, then consumers have rights to refunds or free repairs if an item is expected to last that long.

Water Tank Problem

I have had the iron for just over the year but it has hardly been used. I have recently started to use it regularly and have found the water tank has cracked in three places.

I now means a new tank.

I would have hoped at the price I bought it it would have lasted longer.

Reliable

I have this steam generator for over 3 years, without fail, despite numerous drops of the iron. The ironing quality is exceptional and the steam adequate even when not in the highest setting.

I've Had The Phillips Gc8220 For Over A Year Now A

I've had the Phillips GC8220 for over a year now and its ironed an awful lot of clothes already! Other than the cord being a little short and it being heavy its a great steam generator iron and i would highly recommend it.
