We Searched For Several Months When We Were Lookin

We searched for several months when we were looking for our first caravan and we knew we had found it as soon as we stepped inside our Crown Sceptre. It has everything we wanted and is ideal for a family of 4 (or 5).

The front seats take 6 adults easily and another 4 at the rear. The front converts into 2 singles or a very comfortable double (king?) size bed and the rear turns into another double bed with a single drop-down bunk that our 5 year old loves to sleep on. When away on longer breaks you can leave the bunk set up and there is still room for the kids to sit / play at the rear, or you can shut the door over and hide all their toys away!

There is lots of storage under the seats, plenty of overhead cupboards down both sides and across the rear and a large wardrobe that holds enough clothes for us for 2 weeks. Kitchen area is very good with additional fold-down and pull-out workareas, 2 overhead cupboards, cutlery drawer, 2 floor level cupboards for pots etc. Separate grill, good size oven and fridge with small freezer box. At the front there is a 2 drawer chest with another floor-level cupboard beneath. We have a choice of 3 tables: small coffee table clip-on; larger clip-on for the rear seats and a free standing large table you can use outside the van when it isn't cleverly stored away.

The Crown Sceptre Is Good Value For Money, Light,

The Crown Sceptre is good value for money, light, up to date interior, nice long front seats on both sides unlike a lot of todays new vans, rear seating area can be made into a permanent bed and can be closed off if required. Same style of van today would cost £12000 new!... You should be able to pick up a good well looked after Crown Scepter for £3500 or less.

For An 1995 Van I Don ' T Think You Could Beat The

For an 1995 van I don ' t think you could beat the layout, its family friendly and the seats at the front are long enough to stretch out on and indeed I have fallen asleep there on a numerous ocassions. Couldn't have done that in the 2007 Bailey which we just sold basically for that very reason, it's also better that the 2006 Abbey that we had before the Bailey, The seats in the front of that were ion the short side as well. You may be wondering why I would want to get rid of a new van and go backwards so to speak to a 1995 van. Well to be honest I had finance on the Bailey and with things getting tighter etc, (fuel going up, food going up, Wages NOT going up) it was £140 a month that could be better spent elsewhere. So we sold the Bailey and downsized and paid it in full so now no more Debt! (the insurance is only £6 a month on this one so that's another saving. The other one was costing £28 a month.

Having looked around at different vans and layouts we plumped for the Elddis Crown Scepter which as I said before is a 1995 van

It was a one owner Van and I don't think the grill has ever been used it's that clean. It had my name on it from the minute I walked thru the door. There are some good vans out there for not a lot of money so if you are thinking the same as I was and want go backwards and be Debt free then my advice is take a damp meter with you when you go on the hunt for an older van/tap the walls all over/front, back, top corner, back corner and they should tap back at you if you know what I mean (if they sound dull then push the wall with your fingers and if they feel at all soft or spongy then there is damp in the panel. (walk away) If you have a good sense of smell then that will alert you to damp as well as you can usually smell it! (but not always). Anyway good hunting and if you come across an Elddis Crown Scepter! Buy it! Just do my damp check first and if that ' s OK then you will not be disappointed!

Compared To Lots Of Vans That I Looked At In The &

Compared to lots of vans that I looked at in the £4K range, the Crown Scepter has so far appeared to be excellent value for money. The standard of the fixtures and fittings are pretty good and is carries its age well. My one has had a new carpet fitted and the seats have been professionally re-covered. However, everything else is standard and in very good condition. Have just sent two weeks touring in Scotland and my partner and I have found the van extremely comfortable and spacious.

Ten years on and my wife and I are still enjoying holidays in this practical van. We have been all over the UK and toured in Europe without any issues. I have added a power mover to make life easier setting up, this proved a simple enough job for DIY fitment. I have also removed the bunk bed and mirrored door which has reduced the weight for more relaxed touring. Still happy with the old van!
