My stupid HP Jornada 568 64MB Pocket PC started giving me the problem of not synchronizing with my PC or other PCs. I tried reinstalling all software, re booting the damned thing won't sync not with Active Sync old nor new versions. This piece of crud PDA is really getting on my nerves. I will never buy another Microsoft, HP/ Compaq PC or PDA. Nextime I will go with sony

One problem with the HP 568 that I can't stand is that when you browse the internet (open explorer) the images are not shown and you have to manually select each image and click show image to be able to see it. my friend has an IPAQ and he doesn't have the problem. Anyone knows how to fix this?

written by TERENCE. on 11/02/2003

I waited over one month for stock, before i got this unit. I choosed this unit because of the memory (64megs) and the back up battery. The battery life is excellent, and the safe restore after doing a backup really works. The color is very good, but the casio had a better visual. I loved the size and the protective cover for the screen the unit incorporates. I loved the design and choose it over most of the other available models out there. The biggest failing is that the unit some how gets massive amounts of dust under the screen, that cannot be removed by the user. I gave this unit a failing grade because of the dust problem and my dealings with hp's support.

The lousiest of the Microsoft lineup. (In relative terms; some s*** stinks worse than others). Wince (such an apposite name) regularly hangs or gives useless error messages. ("The file cannot be copied." - what's that mean? Is it MPAA copy-protected? Don't think so, it's my document!)

I've used this for a few months and it has *never* lived up to the marque of "Professionalism". Support is lousy. Dear God I wish a *real* company (e.g. RedHat) had been given the contract to make the OS for HP handhelds!!!

Wince is flaky & useless, but the real fool is myself. To even *think* that a Microsoft product would be of any more use on a handheld device than on a desktop is to have lost my mind. What was I *thinking*????!!!!!

The only thing my family & friends can do is *never* buy another product which has any Microsoft software on it again.

That, we can very gladly arrange Mr Gates. You will have to get the money for your Gucci spectacles from somewhere else.

Long live Linux!

This HP 568 PDA is an outstanding piece of work that truly is brilliant. I don't think I have had a better palm pilot ever. This is a top class piece of work.

Once operation is learned and one knows how to deal with the short comings of the hp jornada 568 Pocket PC, it is an excellent tool that can take pictures, tape meetings and make notes all on the same device. HP should provide a longer battery life with the unit. It is expensive enough to have to dish out another $100 USD for an extra battery.

The HP Jornada 568 is a lovely palmtop with the exception of one thing... The screen is prone to dust problems, that is dust getting between the two layers of the screen so you can't clean it out!
I am now on my FIFTH unit with the problem!!!!!
I was told by HP that the new units were ok and they exchanged my old one for a "brand new unit guaranteed to have no dust issues". GUESS WHAT???????
The new unit has also developed the problem. Suprise suprise!
If I'd have known all of this before, I'd have bought a COMPAQ. Definitely a COMPAQ.

“I brought this HP568 PDA to replace my Psion Series...”

★★★★★

written by Robert Halfon. on 12/04/2002

I brought this HP568 PDA to replace my Psion Series 5MX. The HP568 is remarkable. It works perfectly with numerous programmes open at once and is very easy and quick to use.

The software is excellent and there is some useful software installed. Word and Explorer are particularly good. It is very useful that Targus keyboard software is already installed. Activesync works very well and it is very easy to download software.

The picture is excellent and the memory very good. I have added a 256MB card to the compact flash card.

It works very well for infrared wireless connections with a mobile phone. I have three email accounts and two internet providers that all work and are easy to set up. With my Ericcson T39, I use both GPRS and HSCSD that work perfectly and mean I can read mobile internet very quickly.

Also, the machine is very light and is slick ergonomically well designed. The protective cse cover and silver casing looks very good and protects the machine.

All in all, a remarkable machine - one of the best ever PDA's I have ever had.

“I had my first PDA, a Psion Series II, in March 1988....”

★★★★★

written by Muffin. on 01/04/2002

I had my first PDA, a Psion Series II, in March 1988. Like the early mobile telephones, the Series II was better known as 'a brick with a battery'. I progressed through the Psion range with a Series 3, a Series 3a, and my Psion experience culminated in a Series 5.

With the demise of my Series 5, and the imminent demise of all Psion handheld computers, I was forced to widen my horizons. I considered the Palm m515 - nice screen, easy user interface, but ultimately limited in its potential. I considered the Compaq Ipaq range - nice screen, good interface, good expansion potential, but large, heavy, and unwieldy.

So to the HP Journado 568 Pocket PC: I have to confess that I am already an HP fan having used HP printers since about 1981. I have owned HP printers since 1992 - I am now using a G85 (one of the first to be released in the UK) and I have owned a HP CD-RW 9210e since about 1998. I have found all my purchases to be reliable and economical to own.

However, in choosing a HP Jornada 568, the killer blow to the opposition was the ability to swap batteries. The main benefit of the old Psion range was that the computers ran on two 'AA' batteries. As long as you carried a spare pair of batteries, you could access your information. Until the Jornada 56x appeared on the scene, with other PDAs if your batteries ran dry - tough! No names, no addresses, no telephone numbers, no agenda, no MP3 to while away hours spent in airport lounges!

Until the Jornada 56x I would not have considered buying a new handheld computer because they only ran on non-swappable rechargeable batteries. As far as I could see this was a recipe for disaster. Imagine being stranded in a foreign country without the correct mains adapter and a depleted battery and not being able to remember the telephone number of your contact who hasn't arrived to collect you. What are you going to do? Probably panic - unless you had the foresight to write the critical information down on paper, which rather defeats the idea of having a handheld computer!

As well as having swappable batteries, the Jornada 56x range runs the standard Pocket PC 2002 software and comes with a good range of additional software. The ability to save a system backup to the 'HP Safe Store' is a particularly good idea. The quality of the design and construction is high and the built-in flip cover is appealing (I like clamshells - I have a Motorola V50!) The screen is bright and clear and the ambient light detector helps battery conservation. I have not experienced any of the problems with dust that have been mentioned by other owners, but I am alert to this possibility.

In summary: well done HP - the master stroke of swappable batteries has converted me and I can heartily recommend the Jornada Series 56x to anyone.

“Light, Smart, Sexy and Fast. The HP Jornada 568 Pocket...”

★★★★★

written by Amazon Customer. on 24/01/2002

Light, Smart, Sexy and Fast. The HP Jornada 568 Pocket PC runs smoothly with no fuss. Boy have they come a long way in recent years.
Battery life is good, I'm a student and currently use it for revising for hours whilst in the library.
You can use this little number to display photos to your friends, listen to music, play short video clips, play games on the move (move over gameboy advance), maintain your diary and address book, read ebooks which are easily downloadable online and keep in touch with the latest news with portable internet access (You may want to look into GPRS for improved access, contact your mobile phone operator). Oh and you can record memos.
In a nutshell this thing can do everything. Why carry a bag of things around when you can simply carry this.
The screen is easy to read off for hours on end and seems clearer than a monitor. You can write text in the likes of Microsoft word and excel using a variety of methods, text recognition is pretty impressive; the alternative is to add a full size fold out "stowaway" keyboard. Another useful attachment is a small camera which fits in the memory slot and turns the device into a digital camera.
If you are looking for a wonderful and useful tool that will alter, entertain and organise your life, then look no further. Everyone will want one of these things. Enjoy.
