Saw an advisor regarding fixing and reducing the term of my mortgage. Let the shop confused more than before. Thereafter moved to Tsb. Much easier to move, but... Trying to get a redemption statement from them (NW) is another matter altogether. I recently read on the Nationwide Mortgage site that they aim to respond to any mortgage applications within 48 hours - do they not realise the stress they cause by not approving mortgage applications - nearly two weeks later I am having to push them for an answer (second time) - they received all my paperwork as a first time buyer (8 weeks ago) and then asked for a structural engineer to come and see the property - he then sent them the report and then they asked for a builder to give a quote… Read Full Review

When you have gone through the process of selecting your mortgage, to complete the application you will be asked to send a proof of deposit and a recent payslip to Nationwide. Firstly they specify particular file types. After my first unsuccessful attempt I discovered a website online which will convert between different file types - my first piece of advice would be to use this. when they reject your application on the basis of this paperwork not being of the correct type they give virtually… Read Full Review

“rip-off overdraft fees”

Avoid this bank! I was about £500 overdrawn on a £650 overdraft. In the course of several months, I was hit by hundreds of pounds of fees. Daily overdraft fees of £15.50(!!!), bounce fees for just about everything including standing orders which should not even have fees, then the fees add on and you get charged unauthorized overdraft fees. If anyone said to me they were going to apply for a mortgage with Nationwide I would strongly advise them not. We applied for a mortgage with them in Nov 2016, it took them until 10th Jan 17 to approve the mortgage, due to the "we need another document" which disappears into the system for days at a time, then they come back and ask for another. Terrible building society was with them 13years and had a dispute under section 75 they took over 14 weeks to look at claim and still no answers because they just laugh down the phone at you and pass the buck they should be shut down for what they do to people untrained staff who are not English please don't bother with them lost a lot of customer so now giving 100 pound to refer friend and family no chance… Read Full Review

I'm self emloyed and was after a joint mortgage with my wife for a new build purchase. After trying my business bank RBS who, disappointingly, weren't very helpful my broker suggested Nationwide. Hi, I had a mortgage with Nationwide for 8 years during that time I got a default and they wouldn't accept me for a mortgage on a new property in 2014. I got a mortgage broker and they got me a great mortgage with Skipton Building Society with a better rate that Nationwide offered. I am looking for a re-mortgage now and I am considering going back to Nationwide as my default has cleared and I like the 10 year mortgage they are offering. But if they dont accept you then give Skipton a try, they were great.

Nationwide ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE! Worst company I have ever had to deal with. Customer service is non existent - no one can help you and actually no one wants to help you. They cannot think out the box, just what the computer says. Frustrating is an understatement. They are just happy to take your money. Wouldn't let me port my mortgage so they took £6,000 from me for early redemption! They wouldn't take my situation into account at all. They could have helped me but they chose not to. I have just purchased my first house via a mortgaged through Nationwide. The service I received from the staff was professional, friendly, helpful efficient and extremely quick. So my time line for a remortgage to Nationwide: DIP approved online on Saturday 18th June. Full application immediately after. Solicitor contacted me on Monday 20th, valuation booked on 20th and took place on Friday 24th. Further documents requested on wednesday 22nd, Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th. Please do not engage with nationwide. Incompetent, disinterested and lazy. Have turned what should be a happy exciting time into a hell of stress and anxiety for no reason other than their own uselessness. Even when sending out an offer of loan they do so by second class post over a weekend when our vendors, and ourselves, are worried sick. Surprisingly we applied for a mortgage with a different bank which 1. Offered more value to loan which we didn't need 2. Didnt feel impossible to find us away to keep affordably low 3. Fixed Rate for 5 Years - yes pay abit more but secure Required several documents as standard which yes some did need reviewing and supplying further details however thats the situation all banks are in to be sure you can pay it back. I applied for a mortgage in November, they replied with a decision in principle within a week which was very efficient. Unfortunately I was outbid and the offer lapsed after three months. At the end of this three months I found another house which I was successful in placing a bid under the asssurance that a mortgage application would be again swiftly accepted.
