“RAC WORST BREAKDOWN COMPANY EVER!”

Misfuelled car on 10/09, rang to be recovered at 7.45am - recovery did not happen until 14.45pm. Recovery vehicle damaged the car - it was strapped around the rear suspension arm and winched onto the recovery vehicle causing the suspension arm to kink & the rear wheel to face inwards! Unfortunately not noticed until after the car was fixed and we tried to drive it. “Called 21:03 arrived 5:28am to live motorway breakdown”

Called them last night at 21:03 they arrived at 5:28am this morning, as I was on the hard shoulder of a motorway with 2 young kids in the car this was apparently their priority 1 response. Many false promises on arrival times and over 4 hours into waiting no patrol assigned. “Absolutely fantastic! ”

Absolutely fantastic!!! Our 2 year old decided to lock herself in the car with no way of us getting her out. After 15 minutes of trying to get her to try and unlock we gave up and called The RAC, advising we had a small baby in the car they put it on an emergency response. Perhaps the RAC is going for the worst ever service award. I have recovery and homestart cover. I have been waiting a week for my vehicle to be recovered, every day a different time given, every day hours wasted either on the phone or hanging around for the mysterious vehicle that never arrives. RAC will be first to tell you they're super busy with calls, because of all the staycations... They're also super busy devising ways to make it super difficult to cancel. Auto renewed, rang 2 days late, £25 fee... I had looked twice to cancel online! The renewal quote was £28 MORE - almost a 100% increase on last year's breakdown cover.  Customer service awful too. “Terrible service and communication”

Just a terrible service. The initial person turned up quite quickly and let us know we would need to be towed. After that is when it all went wrong. Zero communication until I spotted the truck that couldn't find us. Then found out the truck wouldn't take our dog in the cabin (which I now understand is common). 10.5 HRS stranded at the side of the rd. A puncture on the rear of my motorcycle, i tried a number of mobile tyre people before ringing the rac. 10.5 HRS unbelievable. Went out last night to rescue a friend after the RAC had claimed that they wouldn't be able to recover him or his bike until this morning! He initially contacted the RAC at around 5pm and was told that recovery would be within the hour, which became 2, which then became onward travel for him last night and recovery of his bike this morning.... RAC BREAKDOWN ARE TERRIBLE! I reported my vehicle to the RAC as the engine wouldn’t start on a or Monday at 21:00 (9pm) and nobody has showed up. It’s now 00:31 (12:30am). My car gave way on a busy dual carriageway at 5:40pm. I am female and was alone at a high traffic place so when I called they were quick only to answer first time and told me I was priority as I was seen as vulnerable and to expect someone to come in 90 mins. Multiple numbers online for RAC that are not in service. Lots of machines telling you to write an email or send letter, however I was at the side of the road on grass at this point so this was obviously impossible. Absolutely appalling company, I called them at 9:30 a.m, made multiple calls throughout the day all of which telling me someone will be there within the next 1-1.5 hours. Eventually recovered at 5p.m and told that I needed to call rac to sort a cab (1st time it was mentioned to me) which then turned up over an hour after my truck was recovered. Absolutely shocking company. Spoken to at least 6 different staff and all had an attitude that suggested they couldnt care less. Partners van cut out when he was almost home. Pulled into a bus stop to ensure he was out of the way. Partners phone battery dead. I called RAC at 6.30pm 12/07/2021 to recover the vehicle to the garage we bought it from. Waited for hours but had accepted that as inevitable only to be told the local recovery company could not take me home. In fairness the local Company was excellent but RAC kept reading my notes wrong … after speaking to 8 people and finally getting it escalated a taxi was booked to take me home as I have full cover within 120 miles of my home … I was 63 miles away. “Nightmare Non-Service”

After 5 hours of waiting and false promises and then wanting me to wait at least another 3 hours for a recovery vehicle I cancelled and sorted the recovery through my own sources the following day. I made a written complaint and only received polite lip service but no action or compensation. I recommend people to call local garages to come to rescue you instead of RAC as they do not have enough vehicles and mechanics but plenty of customer service personnel to give insincere apologies! I have been a member of RAC recovery service since 2001,my cover of service has always been on breakdown of my vehicle I would be recovered to a place of my choice, or home address, its a service that you pay a little more for. On my breakdown on the 4/04/21 the recovery driver informed me that I did not have this cover and would cost me £250 to get my vehicle home.
