this morning i called R A C for what i thought was going to be a straightforwarded repair i am 70 years old have a 12 year old jeep. when i explained the problem to operator he seemed genuinely concerned and set about giving me all sorts of advice and concerned opinions MY BRAKE HAD FAILED ==== i thought i only needed brake fluid top up. the operator definitely knew what he was talking about and begged me not to attempt to drive the car. he arranged for a mechanic to come out to reassure me… Read Full Review

My wife and I have been with RAC for years - we take the full cover. We do most of our miles within 30 miles radius of home with the odd longer journey. I always saw them as insurance in case we needed recovery, especially at night. The last time I personally needed then was about six years ago, my Golf was written off in flood water that got into the engine – I was four miles from home. My son , partner and three children under 7 left abandoned on a Motorway service area for 6 hours after a patrol decided recovery needed, various etas quoted non reliable , eventually made other arrangements , RAC response to the complaint call centre operator useless begrudgingly logged complaint only response email hope to respond within 20 days cancelled membership in writing , have now had a letter asking why my direct debit cancelled useless overated and disorganised outfit… Read Full Review

“Terrible service for motorcyclists”

Having used my RAC membership yesterday I felt that I had to give a review, it was terrible from the start - the call center lady was didn't know anything about motor vehicles and I had to explain that I had a motorcycle, the eta was missed by 40 minutes and in the end I had to wait for another company to rescue me and my bike as the RAC didn't have any vehicles capable of recovering a motorcycle. First you have to listen to the music, because whatever time of the day you call, they are overwhelmed with calls. Mechanics attended quite quickly (less than an hour), and said he couldn't do anything (what a surprise, it was a transmission fault!). Organised car hire and recovery. An hour after the expected recovery time, we called again (music...), RAC hadn't received the details of the gargae where to take the car (???? I was on my way to my daughters house this morning at 5.45am we were both packed up ready to sell at a local car boot sale. My daughter phoned me in a fit of total hysteria, she had strapped her 10 week old baby (who was fast asleep) into her car and somehow managed to lock her car keys in the car. My young son's car broke down last night about midnight, he tried to get through to RAC on the number provided only to be put through to an automated voice. After an hour of him and myself (i was at home) still trying to get through, he pushed the car to a safe area (but on yellow lines) and gave up. 12 hours to recover car in London. Three promised return phone calls that didn't happen. 90 minute call waiting time for phone to be answered. Two young children (3 and 10) left for 7 and half hours with no lights etc. The service is absolutely atrocious. as a gold warranty member i am absoloutly disgusted with he way i was treated today in my experience with m car i was completly lied to when taking out this policy into thinking i would be stress free and everything wascovered i was told upon my car breaking down i would be given a courtesy car as standard this was not the case as even though it over easter period and my car cannot be seen til early next week to be fixed i have to go without my car losing time from work and my disabled son whos… Read Full Review

I broke down on the M25 hard shoulder with my 10yr old daughter. I broke down at 7o'clock in the evening, after being advised the patrol would be 45mins, it turns up an hour & half later! I'm then towed to a the local services. For the patrolman to decide that if he tows me home he would finish 20 mins over his shift time!! He refuses to tow my daughter & I home! “RUBBISH BREAKDOWN SERVICE AND WORST COMPLAINTS DEPT.”

Having made a complaint to RAC about a 5 hour wait I received a letter promising all sorts of replies within a certain amount of time. Got nothing but a £50 cheque in the post, not even a compliment slip saying sorry. This is what they do, fob you off with £50 with no explanation of what went wrong. Their documents state limitations of time to reply to you or ring you and I have heard nothing. If something goes wrong their complaints dept are worse than the breakdown service they supply… Read Full Review

When you have to call upon your breakdown cover you want them to be quick and professional. I'm not sure what has happened to the RAC in the last 3 years since I used my breakdown last but so far I am not impressed. Customer services sound sound like they couldn't give a monkeys and want you off the phone as quickly as possible.
