“Fun place to work out ”

★★★★★

written by RobsCuddles on 19/03/2024

I have been going to Curves in Eastleigh for over two years now. It’s like one big happy family. The Instructors are friendly and encourage you all the time. The work out is great, it makes you feel energised and good about yourself. If you feel down you come away from a session feeling so much better. I was advised to do upper body weight training to strengthen my bones as I have the start of Osteoporosis. According to my Chiropractor he can see a difference. I also love the different sessions such as Zumba, balance and Boxercise. If you want to get fit, feel good, have fun then go along to Curves

“Great customer service at joining, appalling when leaving”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 420Erickson on 01/03/2015

I joined the Lusaka (Zambia) gym some months ago and opted for a contract. Due to the restrictive operating hours I could not maintain my regimen. As per contract, I wrote a letter of notice to terminate my contract which I hand delivered. I was assured I would receive an acknowledgement via e-mail (I was even asked to put my e-mail address on the letter, which I did). I did not hear anything for 3 weeks, so I made a follow up by phone. The lady I dealt with asked me to hold on as she consulted a colleague. To my horror I heard "what acknowledgement does she want?" in the background, the lady quickly came back on the phone and advised that I had been removed from their system. I tried to explain that I was advised I would receive an acknowledgement and that is why I was following up but was told that there was no need for an acknowledgement. I found this to be strange for an established business entity not to respond to correspondence at all. I later sent an email asking for the effective date of the cancellation and when the last payment would be deducted from my account. I was appalled at the response I got, that as I had been told on phone my cancellation had been processed. I responded again indicating that what I wanted to know is when this was effected. I am now irritated and have opted not to pursue the matter because it is so evident that there is no professionalism or courtesy. This is unfortunate because any business knows that feedback if not taken seriously has an impact on reputational risk. If one of my friends asked me to recommend a good gym or if I had to give input on our corporate membership options I would be embarrassed to mention Curves because I would not want to be linked to such dire customer service.

“Great Gym for me but not for everyone”

★★★★☆

written by Jacobs438 on 11/10/2014

I live in South Africa. I signed up at Curves because I have a beach vacation planned in 3 months and need to shape up. I could not think of anything worse than signing up at a "normal" gym, as I have done this many times in my life and I usually go for about 2 months and then give up and don't go even though I was paying every month. I signed up the Curves in my area, as it's literally on my way home from work and they also claimed to be a 30 minute workout. So I thought that this was the best option. The first day was great. I had all the help I needed. An instructor went through the entire circuit with me, telling me how everything worked and how to use each machine. The 30 minutes went by so fast that I almost couldn't believe I was done. But I was. I felt as if I had worked-out. I'm 28 years old. I hate exercise. I can't run. I won't run. I don't like cycling or elliptical training. I HATE CARDIO. The best thing about Curves is that there is no cardio. There is no running. There is no cycling. That is why Curves is great for me. If you are a person who does enjoy cardio, Curves is not for you. If you are like me, and don't actually even want to work out, and you hate cardio, Curves is for you. Also, the entire Curves workout is 30 minutes. No more. No less. At the "normal" gym, if I only went there for 30 minutes, I would feel bad and think that people are judging me for only going to the gym for 30 minutes. At Curves, 30 minutes is as long as you can go for. I even asked the instructor "What happens if, one day, I want to do the circuit again? you know, stay for an hour..." The instructor replied: "If you ever feel like you can do you circuit again, that means that you're not doing it correctly and then we need to see what you're doing wrong, so that we can correct it. And then you won't feel like doing it again." That was a pretty darn good answer to me. Curves promises not to keep me in the gym longer than 30 minutes. And that is something I can stick to. We can all spare 30 minutes out of our day, but I certainly can't spare 2 hours to go to a "normal" gym. So if you're lazy, like me, or physically can't do cardiovascular activities, then Curves is for you. You're welcome.

I have just returned to Curves following a long break due to a calf injury ( not caused through Curves) it is great, very effective very friendly and welcoming and quick which is what i want when working full time. The hours have been extended too which is a bonus as are the variety of classes on top of the circuit training.

“ok but boring. not for anyone who wants variety or options”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/10/2012

I love circuit training i've done it in classes and with personal trainers before joined curves a bit back and it was so dull and boring the first few times yer its good but to go regularly to something that doesn't change much and staff dont seem to be as informed or involved in fitness.

“Easy, Fun, Gets Results!”

★★★★★

written by on 29/03/2012

Curves does exactly what is promises and it has made a massive difference to my life. The people, the philosophy, even the exercises. Love the 30 minute ethos and most importantly I love that it actually works. Would recommend to anyone that wants to lose a few pounds and feel better about themselves. Even the community is just so much more welcoming than at other gyms. Great job.

“I joined my local Curves a month ago and I have to say...”

★★★★★

written by on 17/05/2011

I joined my local Curves a month ago and I have to say I absolutely love it. The equipment is easy to use and I am thrilled with the results. Since I joined I have lost 5lbs in weight and 17.5 inches in total from my bust, hips, thighs and arms. I feel better than I have done in years and would recommend it to anyone who would like to improve their fitness and have a great time in doing it.

The only downside is that they are not open at weekends and that you do have to sign up for a minimum of a year which is a bit of a gamble if you are not sure you are going to get your moneys worth.

It's fantastic to hear you have benefitted from Curves. So often on Review Centre and other review forums we see just the bad feedback, the negative things from people who want to be nasty. We often take it at face value and always forget that for every dissastisfied customer there are 100's of genuine, happy satisfied people.

Good luck with the rest of your training!

“Signed up for Curves last year as a few of my friends...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/04/2011

Signed up for Curves last year as a few of my friends had done the same and they raved about it......the enthusiasm was short lived...for me and them. I have ended up with a torn rotator cuff, sore back and knees. I have now no faith in the instructors as each of them tell you different ways of using some of the machines. I am not sure if they are qualified or not but it gives me great concern if they aren't as there are elderly people using the machines and if they are not taught properly there could be serious injuries. Also they decided to cut the hours of opening after I had joined which was a bit unfair too. They also seem to be on a recruiting drive every day which makes it sometimes difficult to get on machines as it is so crowded at times. I have just cancelled my subscription with 2 months to go but will not be going back. It has been the worst training experience of my life and am now having to get physiotherapy for my shoulder due to not being shown properly how to use one of the machines. All of my friends who had joined Curves (both here and abroad) are not renewing their membership. That tells it's own story.......

I just love Curves - it is a workout that is fun and fast and do-able. I can fit it into my busy schedule.
Excellent idea - love my workouts (and I'm not a fitness-freak).

I found this review unhelpful because it was not specific enough to allow me to make an informed decision about whether to join Curves or not.
