I made a booking for 8 people for my birthday, which is very close to Christmas. The booking was for a branch popular chain of restaurants in my home town and I immediately received confirmation telling me that my confirmation was successful and that the booking was in the restaurants booking system.

I later received a phone call from the restaurant informing me that they could not fulfil my booking as the toptable system (open table) doesn't "talk" to their booking system and therefore couldn't see that they were fully booked.

When I phoned to complain to toptable they explained that their contract with the suppliers involves the supplier using toptable's software to keep toptable updated.

Two different points of view, and so much semantics.

What it boils down to is that the relationship between Toptable and it's suppliers isn't robust enough for them to guarantee my booking. End of.

I'll be booking directly with restaurants in future, though probably not in time for my birthday.

Booked a table with a restaurant through Top Table, received email confirmation and reminder we had booked the table.

Come Saturday night we were left embarrassed and without a table for a celebration for Mother's Day!!!

Will never use this site again and would not recommend risking this happen if its an important reservation.

The restaurant were also unsympathetic and couldn't really have cared less. Complete fail on providing a service from both Top Table and restaurant!

This is a great site for seeing which restaurants are offering good deals at any one time - a great way to check out places you might not previously have considered (and places you probably won't want to go to again!) with 50% offers, etc.

Have never had a problem booking through them - once I made a reservation which was confirmed but the restaurant had overbooked. However, toptable rang me up immediately and offered a different slot, so no complaints there.

The more you use them you can build up points towards a meal, so definitely worth it.

Would thoroughly recommend the experience
