Although the Canon PowerShot A710 camera has got some bad points they are relatively minor compared to the camera ' s main purpose of taking great pictures. I have had this camera for several months and I am still amazed at the high quality of the pictures that I have taken just on the automatic setting. The camera also has several shooting modes for specific situations and manual settings that has enabled me to try to be creative. The movie setting also works well for short movies with sound.
The image stabiliser is a definite benefit which has let me to take good photos that would not be possible with my previous camera.
When I bought this camera I was looking for a something that was flexible, versatile, easy to use and not too expensive. I think that I was fortunate when I chose this model. It may not be the best camera for beginners but for anyone else I would definitely recommend it.

Bought the Canon PowerShot A710 8 months ago having previously owned an IXUS. The controls are similar and to my mind very easy to use. On the whole I found this camera very user friendly, especially in Automatic mode. The programme modes have all performed well in a variety of situations. The best feature however is the manual mode, giving SLR style control in a digital compact. I'm an unashamed fan of Canon camera's and I'd happily recommend this model to my friends.

Excellent little camera that does everything the average photographer needs. The Canon PowerShot A710 IS isprobably not suitable for absolute beginners or technophobes.!

My only problem was my sad innability to open the battery cover! (must be an age thing) I passed it to my wife and she opened it in 30 secs!

I had exactly the same problem with the battery cover - you have to hold the lock down and slide the cover sideways - which the book doesn't tell you.
