La Piazza, York

I stayed in York over the weekend and we decided to consume our evening meal at La Piazza. We didn't book and just turned up at nine o'clock on a Saturday night and luckily, after a short wait they managed to fit us in. That was a good start and I have to say it was a really enjoyable experience.

The waiting staff was very friendly, if a touch forgetful, and the food excellent. We ordered a tasty bottle of Pinot Grigio for £15 which I would thoroughly recommend in itself. We didn't have to wait too long for our food which was nice and the waiting in between courses was pretty much perfect, just enough time to let the meal go down, but not rushed or made to wait too long. Being rushed is one of my pet hates in a restaurant, along with poor service, and these guys certainly didn't let me down.

The only downside was that they kept forgetting to bring us dessert. We had been waited on brilliantly, prior to this, but for some reason the 3rd course was beyond them. Thankfully the manager came to our rescue and gave us dessert on the house, after he realised his staff had dropped a clanger. That type of service is what separates a good restaurant from a bad one in my eyes and I was impressed to see the restaurant rectify the initial error.

If in York, I would encourage you to give these guys a try - I will definitely be back.
